Technically there are no ribbons, braids or beads... It's not in the spirit of the rule I'll admit but technically it wasn't against the rules...

Actually, it states that ribbons or bows MUST be of dark colors, and no "braided hair," which is what the rule they cited was, "no braided hair." The problem is, any idiot who's had a braid would know that that bow isn't one. I would say that the hairstyle should've gotten through on a technicality.

Best I could find. They state on their website specifically hair braids/bean may not be worn. Also for earrings only one stud is allowed in each year. Studs only.

Yes, and it isn't a braid, nor is it a bead.

Semantics really. To you it isn't (and myself), but to them it is.

Which is who really matters, in the case, but they're not exactly professionals, so they really don't know what they're talking about.

    Is a handbag a purse?

You are correct.. the headmaster is probably not a hairdresser professional. That is a good thing.

That's true, technically the bow follows the rules. But in a school that doesn't allow ordinary hairstyles, how could the father have thought this extraordinary, unusual bow would be accepted? In a school far less strict, yes, this hairstyle would be a blast. But this *is a strict school. I bet the father wiggled his way past the rules on purpose, and thought he could get away with his technicalities. If the father really wanted his daughter to enjoy this beautiful bow without dancing around rules, there's nothing getting in the way of her wearing it *outside of school.

She wanted to look like a princess, and he did something creative. It's a shame that actual creativity caused a little girl to be singled out.

"Singled out"?! *He pushed borders. He paid for it.* He knew what he was doing, and he did it anyway.
And P.S., stop standing up for "creativity". Some people still follow rules. He signed her up for a tight-ass school, and yes, she is going to have to look like every other little girl there. If you want creativity, go some place that welcomes it.

Are exclamation points really necessary, madam?

He knew that he was doing something nice for his daughter. The bow wasn't a braid, it was a bow, not ribbon, not barrette, not headband, and so forth. It was simply a cute updo.

Additionally, given that her father is a professional hairdresser, I'd imagine he'd know best about what a "simple updo" is.

Oh dear God. Please tell me I'm hallucinating.

The bow didn't get off on a technicality.

The father never called it a "simple updo". You did.

Quotes from the father in another article about this:
“It isn’t a hair braid, it is quite simply a knot in the shape of a bow, and I should know because I’m a hairdresser. I really cannot see a problem with it and all the other parents said she looked fantastic.”
“Marcella asked me if I could do her hair like a princess for the school photo and I came up with a simple but elegant style, using her hair to make a bow,”

    Are. You. F'ing. Serious.
Madam, I would care for a debate, hold the explanation points.
& the dad NEVER called it a simple updo.
    That was you.

And to repeat myself, quotes from the father on another article regarding this issue:
“Marcella asked me if I could do her hair like a princess for the school photo and I came up with a simple but elegant style, using her hair to make a bow,”
“It isn’t a hair braid, it is quite simply a knot in the shape of a bow, and I should know because I’m a hairdresser. I really cannot see a problem with it and all the other parents said she looked fantastic.”

MmmmHmmmm. 1> She did not look like a princess. Kids were going to make fun of her anyways. 2> Creativity is clearly not welcomed in this school. He knew what was going to happen. 3>"little girl to be singled out"? good God. You're not even looking at the facts of the issue: rules are rules. You're just look at the sad wimpering puppy that desperately needs a hug. Get a grip.

I look at a charming young girl who looks fabulous in what her father did for her. If only more fathers took that sort of interest in their daughters.

Maybe the girl would be more comfortable in a place that actually *welcomed* individuality. But it's not at this school.

I found out in 5 minutes what the school allowed and not. I am sure he was up to snuff on what they required. If he wasn't.. shame on him. He pushed the boundaries as you said. Which I believe is fine. Just when you get stopped pushing them don't be a whiner. Suck it and move on.

The "bow" is not a dark color; maroon, navy, blue, or black. It is not a braid or beaded. It is not made of ribbon nor is it a classic "bow". It is her HAIR. They are banning her HAIR? Well I say shave all her hair off for St. Baldrick's and tell the school to shove their stuffy policies up their tight ass!

    Ummm... what?! Ok then...
Rules are rules. You want to try to squeeze by on a technicality? let's see what happens. Your daughter ends up crying and on the national news? I hope the bow was worth it. (and I'm just going to say it, but the bow was ridiculous. not cute.)
