That's ridiculous and demeaning to women. Are they also going to test if the boys have fathered babies?

That's between the girl, her family, the father, and her doctors. Furthermore, this accomplishes nothing but informing the school that the girl is pregnant-- which is irrelevant. Government funded schools that kick girls out if they fail the test are refusing to provide a girl the education she has a right to get?

Further proof of the fraudulent myths of success of these corrupt institutions. Pregnant, disabled, poor, issues, or just a little too dumb? They'll drop you back into people capable and willing to assist you. Charter schools rig their evaluations and then flout the fraudulent results of flawed evaluations.

no way..It's not the school's job to perform pregnancy tests on the tax payer dime. WTF? Charter schools are still public schools. not to mention that it's none of their business...

If you can't follow the rules go elsewhere. Why do you go to a charter school.? Usually because they have rules set in place that are followed. My opinion. When entering a private school, parents are usually asked to sign that they will abide by the rules...not enroll in order to change the rules 'cause their darling little one is above abiding bythe rules.

Depends on what is meant by charter. If it a completely private school, then yes. A government funded school, then no, but those shouldn't exist in the first place.

Charter schools do receive public money so they are not considered private schools.

Son, i scored in the top 96% in the nation on my SATs and aced every standardized test the state had. There isn't a public school in the nation that wouldn't LOVE to have had me as a student.

Its the morons such as yourself that need to be weeded out.

    Carry on, fool.

Because, why would they? Honestly, apart from invading a young girl's privacy there's no other reason for it. Girls will tell their parents or school when they are ready for it.

Unless they also want to test for other medical problems, which would apply to both boys and girls. Why is pregnancy specifically being targeted?

Are there really that many pregnant teens in the US? Over where I live, you don't even hear of such a concept as teen pregnancy, not really. And it's not like they aren't having sex either.

If its a private than you can go else where, in early years 50's, 60's if a student got pregnant the school would take her out of school until she had the baby and that was it.... what's going to be next students demanding to be allowed breast feeding in the class room because they couldn't control their hormones?

Should a Charter School Be Able to Require Students to Take a Pregnancy Test?

by Shepard Smith PostedAugust 08, 2012......Why would they want to do that.....other than trying to find out if someones pregnant, the obvious answer.....whats the underlying reason? (does the school feel it might be a, "blemish" on their reputation? you really got to wonder if society is headed towards a, "lack of freedom of speech" and less communication? why, really? why?

This is not an area that the school should be sticking its nose into. And just how do they judge which students are to be tested? It's too subjective and an invasion of their privacy.

Unless it can be proven that the child is spreading a disease of some kind, it is absolutely unacceptable for any school to have any say at all over any child's medical business.

Charter schools are an interesting case -- not quite private, not quite public.

My gut reaction is "no" that this violates the girl's privacy and is unfair in that this rule will only give consequences to the mother of a child, not the father. However, from a school admin position, I think I can understand that teen sex and teen pregnancy is an issue. Perhaps if the language of the charter agreement includes an explanation on how teen pregnancy will be handled, then it would be ok.

In that case, should they request pregnancy tests of young women the suspect of being pregnant and the result is positive, IF/WHEN they take action in removing the pregnant girl from the school, then I think they should also take the same action against the father of the child. Just my two cents.
