That's ridiculous and demeaning to women. Are they also going to test if the boys have fathered babies?

That's between the girl, her family, the father, and her doctors. Furthermore, this accomplishes nothing but informing the school that the girl is pregnant-- which is irrelevant. Government funded schools that kick girls out if they fail the test are refusing to provide a girl the education she has a right to get?

Charter schools are publicly funded but not held to the same regulations.

Yes, it's the problem with Charter schools, in my opinion. They are sometimes just a way to promote some particular ideology at school while still receiving public funding.

Teenage pregnancies are a FAMILY matter. It's a very private thing and some teenagers would prefer to keep it private and between her and her family. Plus it's an invasion of privacy;; it's not like the teenager is putting everyone's life in danger.

Michelle; WHO should provide the education about sexuality and sex to children? And when? Personally, I believe it's the parent's right, AND responsibility, to teach their children, about those matters. I did. My twins were embarassed, but at least they learned more about sex from their parents, than a health teacher or their peers at school! Some boys will tell a girl all sorts of stories to a girl, just to have sex with them. They should get the 'real' facts from a knowledgeable person, and that should be their parents!

Some parents aren't mature enough to tell their children the truth. My parents told me many lies about the birds and the bees to "scare" me away from having sex. All it did was push me further away from them as I got older.
It's not fair for some children to be misinformed, some need other sources for help.

In this day and age students should be tested for all sorts of things...if you're bringing it to school, it's part their problem too!

But pregnancy isn't something contagious. It's not part of the school's problem.

so the poor girl's life and her baby's life dosen't matter? if the girl is ignorant enough to get pregnant do you think she'll be able to go on with the pregnancy without proper help? what about the jerk who got her pregnant! shouldn't he be held accountable for his own actions??

How does the school forcibly pregnancy testing the girl and then KICKING HER OUT OF SCHOOL fix any of those problems you mentioned?????
How does pregnancy testing the girl hold THE MAN responsible for his actions?? Is the school testing him? No.

Where in this topic does it ever say anything about kicking the girls and not holding the boys responsible?! I agreed on testing for pregnancy and nothing more so could you just let me have my opinion and move on with your life!

If you would read about the school in question you'd know that they expelled the girls. Read the articles first and THEN move on with your life.

So, these female students who get pregnant....they did this all on their own, or should the male students be held to the same sort of standard? Also, charter schools are funded with tax dollars. Should a publicly funded school be able to expel a female student for suspected pregnancy, but not have any high standard for male students?

Who said anything about expelling these girls? I think they and the baby daddys should be given counciling to that matter and some education perhapse...is that a bad thing for the girls? :D
  • Pele Em... BerryColor 2012/08/16 04:14:40

That was the point: If a girl was suspected of pregnancy, she was forced to take a pregnancy test or be expelled. If the pregnancy test was positive, she was expelled. That's the whole point: Girls are punished for getting pregnant, but boys are not for impregnating girls.

then the point must be changed and the test must stay..ignoring the problem of teen pregnancy wont make it go away

Leave them alone. When you look at it American law is much like Shara law, very controlling. That's why Shara law looked good to so many people later found finding out it is worse than what they had. People want to know to give them guilt to give a human sacrifice like people did to numerous named idols calling it good.

Charter schools are supposed to set their own standards. If students and parents don't want to live up to the rules, they shouldn't attend them. It's that simple.

Tax dollars go to support charter schools. If the school wants the public to fund it, they need to be held to the same sort of standards as public schools.

The whole point of a charter school is to find alternative routes to success. I don't know that you can serve two masters. Most students and their parents elect to go to a charter school. Why would anyone be dumb enough to go there if they don't like the rules?

That's not necessarily the point of a charter school, but if you want to deny girls an education because they're sexually active, you damned well need to deny it to boys, as well. You can accuse a girl that she 'might' be pregnant and demand a pregnancy test. What about accusing a boy that he fathered a child? Are you going to demand he get a DNA test to prove that he didn't, and kick him out if he refuses?

I suppose we can tie a knot in it, huh? That's part of the injustice of the world. The guys don't have anything physical to determine their guilt. When they don't practice safe sex, both are totally stupid. It's a shame they get to multiply because they sure can't add. I have no problem kicking the father out as well. Hey, DNA is a good idea. If the girl is screwing around so much, she might not know who the father is anyway.
  • Pele Em... Politic... 2012/08/12 02:45:32

I think the point is the inherent unfairness of it. All someone has to do is accuse a girl and she has to take the pregnancy test. Heck, I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the accusations would be made out of spite. A girl gains weight: Not sexually active, but putting on some pounds and she has to take a test. A boy who's liberally spreading his sperm should also have some consequences. So, if a girl gets pregnant, Mr. Sperm donor should also be expelled.
