They're young, so there's a greater chance for them to be rehabilitated.

so a 14 year old isn't able to be rehabilitated. Well grow up's get 10 yrs. or less for murder and rape

If a 14 year old commits cold blooded murder, or murders, thhe should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. They made a choice to kill someone. Let them be held accountable regardless of age. A murderer a this age is a failure of parenthood and society. Life is important and it is not like a game where when one kills someone or something they don't come back with a new game or when the new game is over.

As with all things moderation should be applied. Each case and each event should be decided on merit, intent and motivation as it applies to the law. However, should a child be found to be such a danger and in such a sociopathic condition that they will never be able to assimilate into society in a non destructive way. I believe they should for the good of humanity be put down as you would dog or other non productive creature. I don't believe in long prison terms as these just breed a more organized criminal as well as costing the public way too much money. Executions should be swift and immediate, one bullet, back of the head and lights out. Which is more humain a swift death, a life being raped by you cell mate or watching the year of your life tick away in endless progression. Which would you choose?

Unless I am a juror or a judge on a case, I have no say so as to whether or not these young offenders should be sentenced to life without parole. These polls do nothing but show opinions of people regardless of the law. Many people are influenced by the age of the offenders and not by the law. If you do not like the law petition for it to be changed. But, do not ignore it. If it calls for such a sentence, then the sentence is just.

At what point do we hold murderers responsible for their actions? 14 or 18? What's the difference? Murder is a crime in which the perp should pay for his or her taking of another's life.

Any 14yo that commits an infraction that would potentially warrant life imprisonment have clearly had a host of failures throughout their lives. I don’t believe as a society we should throw the baby out with the bath water. If we believe the notion that people can change then there must be alternatives in place to give the youngest “criminals” the opportunity to be reshaped.

Aside from right and wrong we know that children are the epitome of having lack of impulse control, thus most things that they do are completely dramatized. Unfortunately, in the realm that we are referring to the drama of it all is very criminal and the masses are compelled to call for an equally dramatic action. Dramatic acts cause dysfunction and chaos.

So many factors play into this. It can't just be a "blanket" decision for all juvenile offenders. Cases should be throughly reviewed and re-reviewed before that kind of decision is made. Have they been diagnosed with long term sociopathic tendencies, etc.

Yes...and no... Depending on the nature of the murder....was it planned? Was it a teen girl killing her uncle cause he molested her? Was it a teen boy that killed the bully at school....or was it just a kid killing his dad cause he took away his ps3? In some cases people need to be killed....depending on the nature of the crime I wouldn't be against the death penality also....but it just all depends.

I would say no under one condition. If the person they killed is any less dead than if they had been an adult.

I can't imagine a 13 year old facing his entire life in jail. There must have been something in his life that made him/her do whatever it was that he/she did. I don't believe any child is a born killer. Someone or something turned him/her into a killer. Obviously he has to be contained for some period but I think someone, a doctor or psychiatrist should work with the person to find out what happened and whether he can be rehabilitated.

they would be exactly what the system you encourage turns them into. So ya, when you send a 14 year old into adult maximum security where he's raped for the first few years every night by fellow inmates, he may be a little worse for wear. But if christianity is true, he'll be first in heaven and people like you will be last,
