Too many donkeys has prompted open season. Donkeys -- the four-legged variety not the political party -- have grown out of control in Texas:
So-called animal rights activists don't like the idea of licensing people to shoot donkeys. Real animal rights activists know the importance of population control, and that humans with rifles can provide a humane way of saving the animals from extinction.
Texas park rangers are trying to wipe out hundreds of free-roaming donkeys in Big Bend State Park, killing nearly 130 to date with .308-caliber bolt-action rifles on this side of the Rio Grande. But in the process, the shootings are stirring a whole new kind of cross-border controversy, pitting state officials against burro-lovers who believe the animal holds a special place in history and deserves protection. link

being atheist just means you dont believe in gods, when you are christian that is a big part of your life and you make decisions based on it. the russians didnt believe in ANY fairy tales, why pick on atheism?
you go have some 'gun fun' shoot them I really don't care either way... i gave an OPINION, y'know a thought based on personal experience and ethics...
have a nice day....
While not as destructive as feral hogs ( give them one night, and your crop looks like a OWS encampment) The donkeys- just like horses eat the vegetation to the ground, which hinders keeping topsoil, which is very thin in the Big Bend area from blowing away, which causes even more issues due to the erosion.
Using them as pack animals is of limited use due to their being wild and the time it takes to break them into the role, especially considering they are already stubborn animals. Also, there are not that large of a need for pack animals, and are skittish, which makes them a hazard if there are children or people not used to dealing with them around
find another civilized way to preserve them, this killing mentality never produce a result .
In australia for example, they killed so many eagles-voltures-owls as a sport to the point where rabbits overpopulated and started taking over lands making tramendous damage to the crops and vegetable .
the nature has a balance system of itself , the eagles-voltures and (like) eat rabbit!!!if you kill eagles ,rabbits will increase .
donkeys eat grass and can be eaten as a meal by other wild animals ,their waste is a fertiliser and responsible for having some type of insects.
get rid of them ,the balance of the nature will be disrupted ...
I think the same thing is true about all of the wild horses that are running loose in the mountains that are herded and then shot!
Or something. I don't like animals being wasted for no reason. Especially mellow ol' Jackasses.
