SHAWN SAYS...Chill Out

Things that are messed up take time to fix. And things are very messed up.

The public is a fickle beast. A new AP-GfK poll reveals that Americans are increasingly more pessimistic about the direction of the country. Apparently, a majority of Americans are shocked that everything hasn't been fixed 10 months after Obama's election.

Does anyone really believe that this kind of change can occur in just one year? It took more than 200 years to end slavery, nearly 100 years to end segregation, and we're still looking for an AIDS cure 30 years on. Things that are messed up take time to fix. And things are very messed up.

When did anything in your life that mattered change in ten months? In fact, what have you done to change your life in the last ten months? I mean really change it — at a core level? I'm still trying to kick my chocolate muffin habit after five years.

We're addicted to quick, easy fixes. Lose weight by taking a pill. Get rich by playing the lottery. Get friends by collecting them on Facebook. Speak your mind in 140 characters or less on Twitter. No one wants any heavy lifting.

Do we really think all of America's wars, economic problems, Jay Leno's rating slump, and H1N1 can be cured in ten months — and by one person? Politics and social justice are not the province of instant gratification. You want quick results, visit a McDonalds drive-thru. This is work. Work is hard. Ask your parents.

Who was that politician who got slammed for calling us a nation of whiners?
OK, maybe that was harsh, but we do have a lot of growing up to do.

Presidents don't fix economies, the free market does. Everything this guy has done goes against conventional wisdom when it comes to economic policy.

In 2008, 8 banks collapsed. This year it's over 100! The bank bailouts were for the large institutions that were willing to go along with a takeover, they really had no choice. The smaller banks were unable to get money from the Fed. so lending was kept at a minimum and small business was shut out. The Obama administration has intentionally done this for control of the banking system.

Every piece of legislation written this year, has been about redistributing wealth from the people that create jobs. The healthcare bill, if inacted will do more to kill jobs than anything before it. Cap and trade will further deteriorate the economy and kill jobs. Both pieces of legislation will result in run away inflation, that will dwarf what Carter did.

It will take two or three generations to undo what Obama and his fellow Marxists have created. My great grandchildren must pay for all of this and their lives will be that of slavery.

.........the biggest change in my life only took 9 MONTHS...... In all seriousness, greater steps should have occured...and the matter of printing money....bad......We should have let the market economy take care of the banks.

Breaking the economy and the nation is part of the master plan to totally take over the country and turn it into a marxist society. What other explanation is there? Cloward and Piven....by the book....We can only take the country back by voting out anyone who will not vow to resend all this spending.. Stop it..reverse it....take it back...and let the free market fix the problem. GET OUT THE VOTE to VOTE THEM OUT!

If Obama doesn't have what it takes to do the job why doesn't he just admit that he isn't man enough to be a US President and then just go ahead and do the right thing and resign? Get out of the way and let some cowboys get it done.

This president has no interest in fixing america, only creating a marxist state. He is very bad news along with the rest of the wacko demo-communist party. If your unable to see through your rose colored glasses, I suggest reading saul alinsky, karl marx, mau,or the communist manifesto! The country will never recover with this anti- american in power!

The only thing Obama has done is to instill insecurity in the free market. Congress has done as much or worse with the same result.
How can anyone be expected to invest when the two Legislative Houses and the Executive are all trying to siphon as much as possible from those same investors.
Face facts, are you going to buy a new car if you're unsure if you'll have a job in 6 months? Can you afford to buy a house if your contract is going to end because there's no bids coming in?
Are you going to hire more people if the government is going to force you to buy insurance for them?
What is going to happen if Congress doesn't extend the tax cuts? More unemployment, and less consumption. There's nothing in the Democrat's arsenal that even resembles a way for the economy to regain it's footing. There are only road-blocks. How's that hopey changey thing workin' out for ya?

To all those that say Obama's spending has made thing worse than they would have been... I ask since when did you become anti-common sense and anti-conventional wisdom...and more importantly anti-Econ 101?

What has always been the basic fiscal policy?
*In a recession decrease taxes and increase spending.
*In an Inflationary period increase taxes and decrease spending.

A wise man once said that patience is a virtue. This sentiment is apparently lost on those that feel everything should be fixed by now. Perhaps they should rethink their own expectations and see if they are setting themselves up for disappointment. He is but one, albeit an important one, cog in the wheel of the body politic. Calm down and do your part.

What you think has "always been the basic fiscal policy is actually a fairly modern construct-- and not one that is proven. That said-- Mr. Obama has yet to reduce taxes on small businesses or individual producers in ways that create confidence and generate jobs. And so here we are, with 20%+ of the population unemployed/underemployed.

ok if you think economics of the last oh century or so is fairly modern. It is a fact that while the small bussiness is an important aspect of our economy it is not the most important employer or segment of our economy. Large corporations are, hence the newly popular term "too big to fail". If small business were as important as you make them out to be in the response above in the grand scheme of things why does no one ever refer to the small bussiness as too important to fail.

The unemployment rate has more to do with larger corporations laying off and not producing that small business not hiring or starting up.
