Seventh Grader Says Bloodlines of 42 of 43 U.S. Presidents Link Back to King John of England: Believable or Baloney?

A 7th grader made national news this week when her genealogy report revealed that 42 of the 43 U.S. presidents are descendants of King John Lackland of England. (Our 8th President Martin Van Buren is the only one not related.)

BridgeAnne d'Avignon was supposed to trace her own genealogy for the assignment, but doing so sparked her interest and she ended up spending months researching 500,000 names before coming to this amazing discovery. I actually went to the same school she attends and did that same project -- it's still in my closet somewhere -- so now I'm thinking I should have put more effort into it... But what do you guys think? Are her findings believable?

NYDAILYNEWS.COM reports:
A young California girl made the ultimate presidential family tree and found that all of the U.S. commander-in-chiefs except for one share an ancestor - King John of England.

Very believable. I recently discovered that I'm descended from the first cousin of the same king. There's a joke among genealogists that every white person in the world is descended from Charlemagne.

King John lived nine centuries ago, and had five children. If we assume a generation every 25 years, that's 36 generations since John reigned. If each generation had two children survive to adulthood and reproduce, then the number of living descendents of King John is 2^36 (68,719,476,736). Obviously my assumptions are wrong, because that number is ten times the population of the earth, which only helps prove my point. The odds are good that anyone with British ancestry is descended from him.

That far back, anything is possible. Shoot, I'm probably related to them then, as one of my lines ties into European royalty and has been researched clear back through to the year 6. Yes, as in A.D. 6.

American gentry during colonial times were a form of royalty except that they were American born. George Washington, who originally served in the English army, turned traitor because he was continually passed over for promotion because he wasn't English nobility. He, and many other American gentry were as rich or richer than many of the lords in England. Since they were not lords they couldn't have a say in the house of lords, which by the way, is what we patterned our legislative branch after. Many of these american gentry were our founding fathers and they set up a government that worked great for the one percent, because they were the one percent.

Of course. Much of the population of this country could be similarly related. The DNA project to trace our ancestors has taken such research even further, to the point that many of us can also be traced back to certain tribes in Africa.

I think it's been proven that 97% of the people are connected within six degrees of freedom. With that in mind, you might be able to say that 97% of the people in the world link back to King John of England. Absolutely 97% of people with any sort of European heritage, and probably more broadly than that.

Not really, but then I do not come up with "V" lizards ether, and I am quite aware of the controlling "interests" in the world. I really wish I could get a video copy of a interview that Barbra Walters did with then candidate Rockefeller, she young and even dumber than she is now, she badgered him insistently on (the now very popular class envy) income level he had. She finally pissed him off and he said it all, little girl I have no idea what my income is or what my net worth is, that is irrelevant and meaningless to me or any thing, I get richer as the world gets richer, and every time you peonies start shooting at each other and burning stuff down the world and I lose. so I try to plan so your kind of idiots don't do too much damage. I am paraphrasing but you get the point-------it did not endear him to here the public or "his kind" but no lizards (how do you picture BHO --- wings and a hallow?).

Not only is it believable, but it is not surprising. I would guess this also applies to a very large percentage of the "common" people in the USA. Unless you can account for 100% of Van Buren's family tree (which you can't) and 100% of King John's indiscretions (which you can't) there is a possibility he could also be included.
Ultimately all humans have common ancestry (post-flood - Noah and pre-flood - Adam.)

Ah yes, "Lucy." The "specimen" reconstructed from fragments found over a multiple square mile area including those from various different species of animals and presented as a supposed ancestor to modern humans.
And what precisely is Lucy's significance to this poll?

Understood. However, I don't accept "Lucy" as an ancestor or even as an accurate reconstruction of a single specimen. In actuality the bone fragments that were used to create "Lucy" not only came from multiple individuals, but from multiple species.

I voted believable but it's hard to be sure as you can't discount that some of them may not have been the sons of the men they thought were their fathers.
