Yup, even though the administration and main stream media lie about it by omission; I dare say the real number is closer to 20%.

Don't really care about the charts... I just know I was unemployed in 2007, went through my savings and unemployment, got hired in 2008 with a government job and a new president, and now I'm back working as a professional.

Now would you like to know what it takes to get a job? Or you just want to rant and whine?

You are talking about unemployment, which disregards those who are no longer getting unemployment insurance payments and those who have taken part time work because they couldn't find work to meet their qualifications!

The private sector is having record profits.

The private sector does not mean the middle class. Trickle down does not create jobs, just record profits.

Companies do not have record profits, but record reserves. This is a hedge against what they fear the new regulations will bring. They are stashing cash to prevent themselves from losing it all by overextending. Therefore, they aren't hiring. I have sat in on company meetings where our corporate executives can't predict what is happening month to month let alone six months down the road!

    Daily finance says differently

In fact, the Fortune 500 are thriving as a group. Unlike the U.S. economy, they've shown quicksilver agility, rapidly shifting their product mix and producing more goods at little new cost. This nimbleness belies the immense size of these companies and, frequently, their advanced age.

The Fortune 500 generated a total of $824.5 billion in earnings last year, up 16.4% over 2010. That beats the previous record of $785 billion, set in 2006 during a roaring economy. The 2011 profits are outsized based on two key historical metrics. They represent 7% of total sales, vs. an average of 5.14% over the 58-year history of the Fortune 500. Companies are also garnering exceptional returns on their capital. The 500 achieved a return-on-equity of 14.3%, far above the historical norm of 12%.

    Andrew
That is profits and is the result of very carefully NOYT spending those profits, but building up their cash reserves. Profits are a combination of sales versus expenditures. If you aren't spending much, your profits will go up.

The private sector is doing very well.

The private sector is business; it is not the middle class.

What you don't understand is that Obamacare is going to bankrupt small business and kill all the job creation in this country. Of course, Obama will be out of ffice when most of Obamacare is implemented and starts crushing the economy again and they'll blame the next president who will probably be a Republican faced with the task of cleaning up his mess he was incompetent and too lazy to fix!

I'm a victim of it. Since graduating in 2007, I had only been able to get hired for seasonal work with UPS during the winter and promptly being let go just before January of every following year. They cut the seasonal opportunities here outright last year, this year will be no different. I would have been hired back once the volume picked up sometime in March of 2008, if it had not been for this economic disaster (and again in 2009, again in 2010 - 2011 didn't happen at all, they've hired _nobody_ at all in all of these years...). So yes, I'm painfully aware of this and I am also painfully aware of the fact that even this statistic is severely understated.

My step dad is under-employed (construction), too. We're very blessed to not have already been foreclosed on, like 100,000 other people per State a month now are.

Blessed a lot more that my mom finally got another job in 2010 after being let go in 2008 as well, or we'd definitely have been #ucked.

Of course...I am one of the unemployed for over 2 years...its insane out here as the government is growing the public sector and funding their millionaire pensions while the private sector is being taxed and regulated to death...this is going to have a terrible ending when we go broke inside a couple of years max...the criminals in the public sector are raping and robbing the taxpayers at an ever increasing rate ....Comrade Obama and friends are destroying this country...

It was the Democrat Congress that screwed things up. Namely Barney Frank, Crhis Dodd and Maxine Waters! They were responsible for the hiding of the Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae scandal!
