Senators Introduce Bi-partisan Industrial Hemp Farming Act?

~ The Rebel ~ 2012/08/05 02:06:57
— Yesterday Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR), Rand Paul (R-KY), Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and
Bernie Sanders (I-VT) introduced S. 3501, the Senate companion bill to H.R.
1831, the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2011. If passed, the bill would remove
federal restrictions on the cultivation of industrial hemp, the non-drug oilseed
and fiber varieties of Cannabis. The language of the bill mirrors that of H.R.
1831 which was introduced in the House this session. The full text of the bill,
its status and a list of co-sponsors can be found at: http://votehemp.com/legislation.

    I hope this bill passes.
Hemp is good for the earth and the American farmer. The hemp plant anchors soil and protects it from run-off. It preserves topsoil and subsoil structure just like forests do. Hemp plants can be grown in most climates, requires little fertilizer and water, and NO pesticides nor herbicides. Hemp yields approximately 10 tons per acre in four months and is drought resistant.
Regulated hemp crop would yield billions of dollars in tax revenue.

I wanted to plant bamboo and they told me not to because it can't. And they compared it to industrial hemp. I remember hearing stories when I was a kid about a field getting out of control and they had to go in and destroy it.

If it's farmed, it's under control. As far as bamboo, it can be controlled, you just have to have underground barriers, like concrete to control the spread.

Is this one of those plants that spreads like wildfire and if so how do they plan on keeping it under control?

hemp is the male plant marijana is the female plant.

that's false. Strains used for industrial hemp are completely different from the strains we use for smoking. The plants we smoke have been bred and cultivated to produce high a thc content. While the male does not produce thc, that doesn't mean that the males of the same strain are the ones used in hemp farming. They're just cut down before they begin to pollinate.
If you were to breed the male plant from a hemp farm with the female "marijuana" plant, the seed produced would not produce smokable plants, but hybrids with a mix of characteristics.

Hemp are strains of cannabis sativa (marijuana) that were bred out of natural landraces of marijuana. Hemp was bred to increase fiber ( stalk) yield. Through the breeding and selecting of plants that grew strong stalks also happen to breed the medicinal qualities out of the plant. Thus hemp does not contain cannabinoids in a high enough concentration to get you high. Medical marijuana strains on the other hand are bred to increase medicinal resins on the flowering tops with no concern for fiber yield since people usually grow medical marijuana to consume and not to make rope out of. Hemp should absolutely not be illegal. Hemp is quite possibly the most useful and versatile, hardy plant on the planet which has so many uses . Hemp is also a superfood, like blueberries, or spinach. I eat it every morning. But its expensive because it needs to be importetd from canada because its illegal to cultivate here which is mind blowingly ridiculous. Also to add, the male plant even a medical marijuana male will not grow buds that get you high. Only the female carries the seeds. The males carry the pollen (or sperm). Just like humans, cannabis is one of the few plants that is dioecious. Meaning there is a male and a female sex to the the plants.

    im not sure
(to keep a long answer short; because the government can't profit of marijuana)
William Randolph Hearst (Citizen Kane) and the Hearst Paper Manufacturing Division of Kimberly Clark owned vast acreage of timberlands. The Hearst Company supplied most paper products. Patty Hearst's grandfather, a destroyer of nature for his own personal profit, stood to lose billions because of hemp.
In 1937, Dupont patented the processes to make plastics from oil and coal. Dupont's Annual Report urged stockholders to invest in its new petrochemical division. Synthetics such as plastics, cellophane, celluloid, methanol, nylon, rayon, Dacron, etc., could now be made from oil. Natural hemp industrialization would have ruined over 80% of Dupont's business.
as long as government and corporations
are in bad together it wont be easy to get either legal

MARIJUANA is not DANGEROUS. Pot is NOT harmful to the human body or mind. Marijuana does NOT pose a threat to the general public. Marijuana is very much a danger to the oil companies, alcohol, tobacco industries and a large number of chemical corporations. Various big businesses, with plenty of dollars and influence, have suppressed the truth from the people.

REFUSING TO GROW HEMP in America during the 17th and 18th Centuries WAS AGAINST THE LAW! You could be jailed in Virginia for refusing to grow hemp from 1763 to 1769; Hemp in Colonial Virginia, G. M. Herdon.

    The Hemp Plant
The hemp plant is harvested for its fibers, seed, seed meal and seed oil.
Hemp is a distinct variety of the plant species cannabis sativa L. Due to the similar leaf shape, hemp is frequently confused with marijuana. Although both plants are from the species cannabis, hemp contains virtually no THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), the active ingredient in marijuana.
Hemp cannot be used as a drug because it produces virtually no THC
    (less than 1%), where marijuana produces between 5 - 20 % THC.
