Suites me - I think the very least Congress should do is make up a resolution to NOT fund anything else for 0bama (no vacations, no secret service coverage, no salary, no nothing) until he comes up with a decent budget the Congress can pass, and then continue in that vein until he has paid back all the vacation monies he and she have spent needlessly.

Big surprise it's just like ones he tried to pass before, the jackass couldn't pass Economics 101. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

That is so totally true, Annette. Ya' know, somehow I've been sitting here trying to figure out a reply for 10 minutes or more, and the enormity of our predicament seems overwhelming.

We see the symptoms right here on SH, with friends dropping by the wayside and resorting to trivia such as Zimmerman/Trayvon as their way of avoiding the big picture. All control over our destiny is taken over by a horde of fools in D.C., and "we the people" are not "allowed" to do a damn thing about it.

Everybody and his brother have some opinion; some agenda; some solution. Those run from total apathy to communism, fascism, or "conservatism", war, revolution, total passivism, religion, aetheism, and many more. My only point in saying this is that consensus is impossible. Thus our only choice is no choice at all -- default to government!

We MUST come up with SOME way of tackling the whole problem from the top down; the relatively trivial details will then become irrelevant. We cannot let others decide for us which windmill to tilt today. At present those "others" are strictly those who govern and rule us. They have in fact made it illegal for people to make their own decisions.

So really, do we just accept Armageddon, or HOW do we get things right? Certainly it won't be kicking the can here on SH!

If you wish to reply, please use email or PM. Here on SH is useless.

First, I don't think we're facing Amrageddon, but I do think we will experience another vast and grave depression. The way out as I see it is to bring back the little guy. A depression will create that on its own. I see it as being very similar to the prohibition era. We are sick and tired of the govt regulations and we will find a way around it, even if that means we kick to govt. out and start with the basic Constitution all over again.
When our currency collapses, we will create a new way of barter and trade - that is after all what capitalism is - barter and trade! The harder the worker, the farther ahead he gets - the lazy man will forever be the loser in the battle. And we will always have some men who work smarter rather than harder and get ahead as well. The skilled will get farther than the unskilled. But the poor, will always be with us. It is an unavoidable truth about life!
But personally, I would rather be poor and free than be a bond-slave to anyone or anything - and that is what this is all about. The collapse of the world and its currency so a rich few can rule it. Won't happen.
Why? Because everyone dies sooner or later and life will change again.

What we need is a lot LESS govt. If we went back to the basics we would have much more of what we need, and we could skip a lot of additional articles. The problem is today instead of letting ingenuity be creative and work the way it is supposed to, we think we have to regulate everything to death with more and more amendments.
People today are afraid of themselves which is why they are afraid of freedom. Freedom demands (not suggests or implies) it DEMANDS self-restraint, self-discipline, and respect for others. Those three things are hugely lacking in our society today. Look at our movies, the language used on the streets, in the workplace, on TV. Check out the most popular video games - the lack of integrity and self-respect is almost non-existent.
It used to be our fundamentals were taught at home - somewhere along the line it got transferred to the schools, and even that failed because the parents didn't like it, but they were and are till unwilling to take on the responsibility themselves, so how they look to the govt. We teach our kids to look to the govt to fund their education, to help them with food (food stamps) housing, even to owning a cell phone! Regulation on top of regulation, on top of regulation.
Could you imagine Joe Farmer looking out over a piece...

Could you imagine Joe Farmer looking out over a piece of land he just bought in the early 1900's and saying, "Let's see, I have 3 sons and 2 daughters, 100 acres to plow, and 20 head of cows to milk. Guess I had better get out my govt regulation book and see if my boys can drive the tractor, and if my girls are allowed up at 5:00 a.m. to start the milking." Back then it would have been a given that would happen - today - not necessarily!

The only way we're gonna see a "lot less" government is after it collapses and the doors in DC are locked forever.

Even if somehow collapse is avoided, it took 234 years to make this mess and it would take at least that long to tear down this mountain one chip at a time.
  • Annette Striker 2012/05/19 21:43:41

I would say it would take about half that time but then again, you may just be right.
