A natural resource manager who grew up in Elko has been named director of the Bureau of Land Management.

The U.S. Senate voted 71-28 on Tuesday to confirm the appointment of Neil Kornze to the post.

Kornze was raised in Elko and is a former senior adviser to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. He joined the BLM in 2011 and has been leading the agency as principal deputy director for the past year.

The BLM oversees more than 245 million acres of public lands nationwide, including about 48 million acres in Nevada.

Nevada Senator Harry Reid today released the following statement on the confirmation of Neil Kornze to be the Director of the Bureau of Land Management.

"I'm pleased that the Senate confirmed Neil Kornze as the Director of the Bureau of Land Management today. Neil is just perfect for this position. Raised in Elko, Nevada, Neil really understands the role of public lands in rural America, and natural resources across the West.

"His expertise is going to be invaluable to the Bureau of Land Management. I have every bit of confidence that Neil Kornze will be the best director we have ever had at BLM and I wish him success in this role."

Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell today released the following statement after the U.S. Senate confirmed Neil Kornze to serve as Director of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM):

"I'm thrilled that the Senate has confirmed Neil so that he can continue to serve at the BLM on behalf of the American people. With strong Western roots and a deep understanding of the issues, Neil for more than a decade has proven himself to be a creative and results-oriented professional, and has been a great asset to the Interior Department when it comes to promoting smart energy development and driving thoughtful landscape-level planning efforts. The BLM is one of the most complex federal land management agencies, and I know that Neil's practical and commonsense approach to problem solving will help the Bureau fulfill its multiple use and sustained yield mission."

For as many generations the Bundy Ranch has existed with the Desert Tortoise, I'd say the Desert Tortoise is really not the issue.

The first time I heard about this Rancher and the Feds, I thought Russia invaded Nevada.

It seems as though the current Presidential Admin, various Dem Senators, and Russia's Putin have something in common...

...Do whatever unethical act you want to do,

...Deny any involvement in the unethical act, and all the while...

...Act like you are against the unethical goal that you are really trying to accomplish relating to your unethical act.

In fact, I believe this current Presidential Admin is all about posturing without any intention to back up foreign policy unless a foreign policy issue hits American shores.

Hence, Putin and President B.O. Admin and various Dem Senators are really birds of a feather (with similar Socialist/Communist goals) that flock together.

The Federal Government is DENIED the Authority to MANAGE land by the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution!

The moment these areas became STATES, the Federal "Authority" to govern these lands passed incontestably to the State whose borders enclose this land. Only the Native American lands (which are independent Nations) fall outside of the State's control. Even the military bases of the US Armed Forces are LEASED to the Government--NEVER OWNED!

The Bureau of Land Management is CONSTITUTIONALLY denied the right to exist!

lol.. so true. It has been reported that 'they' rounded up the poor turtles, couldn't feed them or take care of them properly so... they started killing them. This government is NUTSSSSS!!!

By the way, BO, Gore and the rest of the robber barons stand to make a forture from so-called climate change and the selling of 'cabon credits', whatever those are.

A Nevada man is appointed to lead the BLM, I fail to see where this relates to cattle rustling. I am not going to select a bunch of links, especially when they are Fox news or conservative whatever...

Try writing what you are trying to say instead of just posting portions of news articles. Say what you mean, do not expect people to read your mind. I do agree there is a lot of fraud in political appointments, in Both parties. but that is not what your post says. I see you are a Calif resident, what business is it of yours or mine what happens in Nevada?

Sodahead.. about a yr or so ago, requested that posters keep their posts shorter and to the point instead of posting whole articles verbatim. It has been a pain but has necessitated the posting of links after giving the main points.
