read this article, for gods sake if poor workers where paid a living wage it would put prices up. as a true conservative christian I know that the working poor like to subsidies and pay the wealthy. If they did not,the backbreaking slog of every day life would be striped of all meaning. We must do all we can to stop the wicked socialists bringing this sort of stuff up.
Do you think it is a good idea for the rich to help the poor have a better time or not.

Disko Pickle 2012/02/16 11:34:39No the poor should help the rich more+11That's a very good point. What value would the afterlife have to anyone if we didn't have poor people to prove to us rich people that the material world is full of suffering?

I hope you get to see this as it is an interesting piece on how a big company is getting money to fund low wages

We are all in this boat together. The guys down in the bilges that keep the leaks from sinking the ship may have a stinky, thankless task. But if they quit doing what they do, the Captain will sink right along with the rest of us. It's high time we quit arguing about whose end of the ship is sinking, and realize that it behooves us all to keep the ship of state afloat and off the rocks.
the Con men are fond of yammering about corporate taxes hurting competitiveness. Why must they ignore obscenely high CEO pay? In Japan, CEO's earn an average of 11 times what the average worker earns., In Germany, CEOs earn 12 times as much. Those two nations are still powerhouses of manufacturing. Back when the US was the wonder of the manufacturing world, our CEOs earned about 20 to 25 times as much as the average worker. Now they earn 475 times as much. The only way they can sustain that is to make money not by making things, but by externalizing costs. That means off-shoring jobs, making money artificially by financial gamesmanship and market manipulation instead of making things of tangible value here at home.

It's time both the left and the right get real. Unions secured the 40 hour week, living wages, vacations, sick leave, and workplace safety for their members. But their greed drove them to eventually hurt our competitiveness. We need them, but only if they reform to become more like trade guilds, ensuring a high standard of competence for their members, and helping the companies they work for succeed. They must realize that their fortunes and the corporation's fortunes are fused at the hip. Sink one and the other drowns too. But management needs to realize that the same applies to them. We need to get back to actually making things of value, and wipe out all the money games that produce paper profits but nothing of value to anyone besides the banksters involved.
To pay workers a living wage is a good business principle.
When I owned a construction company about 1993-2003, I paid my workers a living wage. It was a feast and famine business in one of the lowest wage towns in Texas but they were paid better than most. I did not hire illegal aliens.
For me to be paying my workers minimum wage and then they have to go apply for assistance would have been a poor reflection on my business and me as a businessman.
The government sure should not be subsidizing these businesses which pay a sub-living wage. On the other hand, if they are paying them a living wage and the CEOs are being paid in the millions, the government should not be subsidizing them either.
I do appreciate your sense of humour though!
