The Obama administration told Congress on
Thursday it will waive democracy requirements to release up to $1.5
billion in aid to Egypt despite concerns that the country is backsliding on commitments it made to democratic governance and rule of law.U.5 officials and lawmakers said Secretary of State Hillary
Rodham Clinton has determined that it was in the U.S. national interest
to allow $1.3 billion in military assistance to flow. She also
certified that Egypt is meeting its obligations to the Israeli-Egyptian
peace treaty, which frees up an additional $200 million in economic aid,
they said.A senior State Department official said the decisions “reflect our
overarching goal: to maintain our strategic partnership with an Egypt
made stronger and more stable by a successful transition to democracy.”The official spoke on condition of anonymity because congressional
notifications are not complete. Clinton will sign the waiver on Friday,
the official said.U.S. officials had said last week that Clinton was poised to grant
the waiver because she could not certify that Egypt was in full
compliance with the democracy requirements of law.Sen. Patrick Leahy, who wrote the legislation imposing conditions on the aid, said he was “dissapointed” by the decision.

We give alot of money to Egypt every year. It's been that way for a long time. If you look at US foreign aid, Israel and Egypt are at the top of the list. It's been that way for a number of administrations. I think it's too much, but this is the kind of stuff China is doing. "Check book diplomacy" and China is writing checks without without conditions. The next president, who ever he is, is going to have difficultly not giving aid to Egypt, Israel, Pakistan, and many others.
We, as Americans, pay a substantial price for our navy, which protects the international sea lanes. Yeah, we pay too much, but no other country in the world is going to replace us. China, India, the EU? No way. No other country is going to step up any time soon and help with the responsibility of leading the world. It doesn't matter which party gets into the white house after this election. Both will have to deal with the realities of the whole world.

We have always paid the Egyptian government to be our friend, we have nothing much in common. Yet we have to be friends with them so we can pay them not to destroy Israel. If we do not do this then the president (Republican or Democrat) will be accused of throwing Israel under the bus.

Egypt is not the "Muslim Brotherhood."
They started off as a terrorist organization. Found the error in their ways and decided to promote Democracy and became a political group and more. Not until there was footage of them practicing Martial Arts Drills, that it was believed that they were trying to militarize, and they had to go back into hiding. Now they are back out, aiding the people in the Egypt Revolution. and they are trying to promote PEACE between Israelis and the Palestinians, and work out a way to have joint power of the land of Israel. But only ask Israel to stop with their mistreatment of the Palestinians. The are also trying to lessen the influence of Western Power in the Middle East and preserve their culture.
