SCOTUS Upholds Individual Mandate!!!!

ProudProgressive 2012/06/28 14:17:45
CBS News is reporting that in a five to four decision authored by Chief Justice John Roberts the Supreme Court has upheld the right of Congress to impose a requirement that all Americans have health insurance or pay a penalty under the Congress' taxing powers. Details are still coming in. It appears that the Court has also struck down the requirement that States expand their Medicaid coverage.

Here is a link to the full opinion of the Court:

Ok...The federal Gov. does not force either of those things. I can choose NOT to buy a car and hence NOT buy car insurance. I can live in an apt. and NOT buy house Insurance. I can buy a house for cash...if I have the money and NOT buy house insurance. This is the ONLY time we are being forced to buy something. It sounds ridiculas but a great analogy is...What if the Gov. feels we are not buying enough vegetables. It is healthy to do so and it is most surely the right thing to do. So we Tax anyne who does not meet a Vegetable quota? This is wrong.

so if those who do not have insurance and can afford to buy it, gets hurt of have a medical condition, i should have to pay for their care, you should have to pay for their care because of their individual stupidity?

Is this what you are saying?

NO!! It doesn't force you to purchase anything, all anybody has to do is pay the penalty, and they don't have to have insurance. But when they break their neck in a motorcycle accident then you and I will pay for their hospital bills with our taxes. Remember Reagan's mandate, an E.R. has to give health care to everyone whether they have insurance or not!!!!

A penalty is a Tax! If I am wealthy and want to walk into a hospital and pay out of pocket I should be able to. Reagan's mandate is simply to make sure you can get emergency care until being transported to a hospital that can place you in a ward. And that is another thing that irks me. There are plenty of hospitals who accept the indigent. In my city alone, one of the best trauma centers is a hospital that accepts those who can not pay!

But wealthy people dont play those odds, they know that it is far less expensive to just have insurance instead of hoping or depending on luck. It seems that you and those like you are not that smart to understand this.

Look. Of course I feel having insurance is smart and correct. That is NOT the point. The point is that the Gov. should not tell me to. This coutry is about personal freedom. Not about Gov intervention. Look. Let me use an example that is more local. Many cities have basically banned smoking is any and all public facilities. Ok...Smoking is bad. As I told many people I know who started to applaud these moves when they were being done..."Wait til they get around to something you enjoy..."Well now we have cities banning Happy Meals, Ice Cream, Lemonade stands...The list go on and on. We need to take responsibilities for our own actions or someday the Gov will be our Mama and sir I only have one Mama , a wife and a daughter and that is more than enough people telling me what to do for my good!

Yes...They ahve to teat an individual. I agree with that! And no... not because Reagan proposed it. The point is that the "right" to emergency care already exists for those who need it! This has very little to do with doing what is right for the needy and more to do with changing a system and placing it in the hands of a bunch of people who never have to worry about their healthcare!
