Scientists Discover Way to Predict Genetic Code of Fetus

A team of scientists has made a breakthrough that allows doctors a way to predict the entire genetic code of a fetus and screen for 3,500 genetic disorders, raising concerns that the test could lead to more abortions, the Daily Telegraph of London reported.

Unborn babies could be screened for 3,500 genetic faults by taking a blood sample from a woman who was 18 weeks pregnant, and a swab of saliva from the father. With the testing, scientists from the University of Washington have been able to predict the entire genetic code of a fetus. By checking the baby’s genetic code with actual DNA taken after the birth, scientists were able to identify 39 of 44 ‘de novo’ mutations, which are responsible for the majority of genetic defects and play a role in complex conditions such as autism and schizophrenia, according to the Telegraph.

The breakthrough was reported in the journal Science Translational Medicine. The lead scientist on the project, Dr. Jay Shendure, said: “This work opens up the possibility that we will be able to scan the whole genome of the fetus for more than 3,000 single-gene disorders through a single, non-invasive test.”

The screening also was successful on a woman who was earlier in her pregnancy than 18 weeks, the Telegraph reported. The breakthrough is raising concerns, however, about what it could lead to when it becomes widely available. Josephine Quintavalle, founder of the Pro-Life Alliance, told the Telegraph, “One always hopes, vainly, that in utero testing will be for the benefit of the unborn child . . . But, whilst this new test may not itself be invasive, given our past track record, it is difficult to imagine that this new test will not lead to more abortions.”

On the one hand, I'm all for this preventing the birth of children with genetic defects..but why can't they come with a test that can be used in the first trimester? I feel sick when I think of late term abortions. I mean..how can any woman abort a baby after feeling it move within her? I couldn't do it. In fact this is when I bonded with my kids..when I started feeling them move within me. I used to sit in the chair with my belly exposed so I could watch the antics of the baby.

Morphological qualitative and quantitative matching with new born genetic flora, but not focusing on spatial or temporal variation of objective findings with part of the gene supposed to cause disease or mutation as for each mutation there are random events but their synchronization can be symmetry or out of symmetry, so for each American generation there is close set but not the closest set to defy natural forces as much as possible, so that maximum treatment benefits can be arranged before the cure. For Autism can be one of most problem for current American Childs are facing, here also screening can be done as early as possible, but possible cure for autistic child multiple level of genetic reprogramming as for each intercourse male losses potentially silent but not familiar form of quantitative power, so genetic reprogramming with certain level of usual location of surroundings with genetic diversity can be approached with best possible techniques. Take care of all and also yourself. Please don’t be in Panic. American Parents are aware to protect their future progeny without killing their fetus. God blesses America.

There will always be 'slippery slopes' attached to these type of amazing scientific discoveries. We need to all be vigilant that this abuse doesn't occur but then look what we just found out about Planned Parenthood last week where some girls are opting to abort if they are pregnant with female babies.

In this misandric world we live in I would have expected boys to be the target. What's the reason for targeting females for abortion?

Great job! It never surprise me that somebody had to come up with something negative about the discovery. I am referring to, "raising concerns that the test could lead to more abortions."

What's your response to that concern?

My response is, everybody has their life to live and everybody should be able to make their own decision without all the but-ins.

OMG! GATTACA is coming. Soon they will be able to predict the probability of each detail of my death.
I've got mixed feelings on both, what seems to be encroaching and this early DNA sequencing. The sequencing sounds kind of inaccurate, though. It would only be able to tell predispositions anyway. Then again, people making decisions on predispositions is actually part of GATTACA's plot. I don't really know. I'm interested to see where it's going

The problem with the predisposition theory is even if one is born with that, it will only become manifested if the human is being fed a bad diet by their parents as a child, and if they continue that into their adulthood.

Ah..I forgot about that movie!! It was pretty good. I would hate people being discriminated against just because they were conceived naturally.

"genetic defects and play a role in complex conditions such as autism and schizophrenia"
They are right....there will be more abortions. People will do what they do now with downs tests.
What's funny(not haha but sick) is I don't one person whose child has autism that would go back and kill their baby at 18-24wks ....because they have gotten to know them and love them for who they are. Yet many people will see that test and terminate their baby because they are afraid and have not gotten to know their child it is simpler to end them and start again.

Well with an imploding economy, hey that's one way to boost the economy, create more business for Planned Parenthood.

It will truly be a loss to civilization because some of the most intelligent people are ones with autism, and this will be another tool in the war on men on this planet because this means if what Newsmax is predicting is comes true that more male fetuses will be aborted because the overwhelming majority of children born with Aspergers, and other forms of autism are MALES.

    Another example of misandry.

Good point. It's so sad to see an end to so many people because of something they can not help...and if their parents were to give them a chance ...well it's the parents loss really. I know some awsome people that have challenges of one form or another that are like a light on a cloudy day where ever they go.
