Should we have captured Osama bin Laden and tried him, like Slobodan Milosevic and Saddam Hussein? That's the opinion of Omar bin Laden, one of Osama's sons.
The younger bin Laden says he long ago condemned his estranged father's violent ways, as detailed in his 2009 book, "Growing Up Bin Laden," but he tells The New York Times (in sometimes broken English) that he must now "condemn the president of the United States for ordering the execution of unarmed men and women."
Bin Laden is asking "why an unarmed man was not arrested and tried in a court of law so that truth is revealed to the people of the world ... We maintain that arbitrary killing is not a solution to political problems."
He says he is assembling a panel of lawyers to help him investigate the matter.

Writer of dreams 2011/05/11 15:13:44Yes+14Osama Bin Laden should've at least been captured and faced trial in the United Nations. Yes, I know he was the most wanted man in the world, but isn't that kind of contradicting? Killing a man in hopes of peace?

But since the administration had to get Bin Laden-- the least that could have been done was to guard the moral high ground. Killing a civilian unarmed, and declaring it was okay because he didn't surrender-- and offering no proof of any claims to support the assertion that Bin Laden was resisting after having to back-peddle on numerous other details rings hollow.
I don't get the idea on this one. When the President wanted to close Gitmo, build a prison in Montana, and try the prisoners in New York, Republicans cried and scared everyone to death forcing the President to continue to use the Gitmo & Military tribunals. Now, folks are questioning why we killed this mass murder crazy man and pay for his comfort, meals, and healthcare for the rest of his life. Do you really belief there is any high moral ground to be gotten over letting Bin Laden live?
The moral high ground forfeited in this goes well beyond Osama though. The fact is, the US grants asylum to individuals wanted in their homelands for various political crimes, some of which involve alleged violence and loss of life. Would it be OK for the Chinese to send a special forces hit team into the US to off the Dali Lama, or maybe a few of the Uighur refugees?
