Wasilla required women to pay for their own rape examinations while Sarah Palin was the mayor. The chief of police, concerned about their budget, resisted state legislation that would require rape examinations, which could cost up to $1,000, to be provided free of charge.
Sarah Palin has never gone on record about Wasilla's policy, but Eric Croft, the former state representative who sponsored the law to change it, says that he doubts Palin was unaware of the issue. He remarks that the six month fight against a unanimously supported piece of state legislation was more likely to be a policy decision rather than the actions of a rogue police chief.
Sarah Palin's campaign issued a statement saying, "To imply that Gov. Palin is or has ever been an advocate of charging victims for evidence gathering kits is an utter distortion of reality."

ddforronpaul 2008/09/25 03:14:39I am undecided about this issue.+9I don't know and further, don't care. I am a woman and will not vote for McCain just because he chose her as his running mate. Imagine she could be the president. This could be very real given McCain's age. Shudder!!!!

These are costs that are added to a suspects liability in court as reimbursement.
If you were hit by a bullet, the ballistics test would be free.
WHO determines if there is EVIDENCE of a rape if not a doctor?
The real crime here is that for some reason Sarah Palin's association with this practice makes it taboo. (BTW, her police chief would have been in charge of this... and we all know that she always agreed with the goings on of her subordinates placed in positions of authority.... no sarcasm either!)
If you really gave a damn you'd go after all politicians that did this. Otherwise, you're just making noise.
BTW, a good read-

"I'd like to see the courts make these people pay restitution for these things, Fannon said...Fannon said he intends to include the cost of exams required to collect evidence in a restitution request as a part of a criminals sentencing."
Fannon would be the police chief appointed by Palin, and they never stated a view of wishing to charge the victim directly.
They charged the insurance companies and wished to use the cost "to the victim"(insurance company) as a means of gaining additional restitution from the criminals.
Then you cease thinking on the matter. That is why you fail.
Her police chief opted to charge the victim's insurance company so that they may legally seek restitution from the criminals.
If the taxpayer had picked this up, the victims would only have had jail time as justice.
