Santorum Uses Hitler Analogy to Describe Obama

Mopeder 2012/02/20 20:01:01

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Sunday likened the upcoming U.S. election to World War II.

NBC news noted that he "seemed to compare President [Barack] Obama to [Adolph] Hitler."

The former Pennsylvania senator told his supporters that this election was like World War II, "where our closest ally, Britain, was being bombed and leveled."

"And America sat from 1940 when France fell to December of '41 and did almost nothing," he explained. "Why? Because we're a hopeful people. We think, 'You know it will get better. Yeah, I mean, he's a nice guy. It won't be near as bad as what we think. You know, this will be OK. You know, maybe he's not the best guy.' After a while, you found out some things about this guy over in Europe and maybe he's not so good of a guy after all. But you know what? 'Why do we need to be involved? We'll just take care of our own problems, just get our families off to work and our kids off to school and we'll be OK.'"

The candidate added: "Sometimes, sometimes it's not OK."

As BuzzFeed pointed out earlier this year, it's not the first time Santorum has compared his opponents to Adolph Hitler.

During a 2005 speech on the Senate floor, the then-senator blasted Senate Democrats for complaining that Republicans were trying to stop them from filibustering President George W. Bush's judicial appointees.

"It's the equivalent of Adolf Hitler in 1942: 'I'm in Paris. How dare you invade me? How dare you bomb my city? It's mine,'" he said.

Over the weekend, Santorum also said that Obama's theology was not "based on the Bible." He later clarified that he wasn't questioning if the president was a Christian.

Omg .. the media never misses a beat, when it comes to lying or exaggeration..or trying to put words in someone's mouth..Santorum is an honest man,if he believes it..he will say it...I never heard him say it..but hey, if the shoe fits wear it..sounds about right to me.

Vatican boy, Santorum, has foot in mouth disease and cannot resist the hyberbole in bashing either fellow candidates or the president. The more off the reservation he goes the more moderates and independents will go for the president in November even if Romney gets the nomination.

What a fool. And a dangerous fool as there seem to be many (probably all on Sodahead) who believe his nonsense.

People need to realize no one is as bad as Hitler .
I am not a fan but I give Hitler the only Hitler award .
If you are gonna compare Obama to anyone compare him to Reagan because that is who he reminds me of when we are talking about historical villains . Reagan is evil

Of course he does. Whenever a Reich Winger is losing he compares his opponent to the Nazi's.

That's not what he said, but, even in his 'implying', he is dead on. What he is referring to is the anti-semitism towards Israel, and the Jews. Look around.... try paying a little bit of attention to what is occurring in the US and in the East. If we don't get Obama out, it will be.

IMO, Obama has been far too easy on Israel - money, support and promises of more in the future (all without asking diddley-squat in return. Peace process? It needs teeth). I see NO anti-semitism towards either the state or Jews.

You see no anti-semitism towards the Jews or Israel? OMG... where have you been?
In addition, why do you think the East is ratcheting up its attacks? Why do you think the sanctions on Iran hasn't worked? Why do you think they are going ahead with the nuclear program? Because Obama has made clear Israel is on her own. Why does this affect the US? You need to start reading up on the goals of Jihad and the caliphate. Israel is little satan, and the US is big satan. BTW, 2012 in the year the nutjob in Iran believes the 12th Imam will be appearing. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, what matters is what he thinks. The imam can only return if there's war and chaos; and if he can help it along, all the better. You need to start reading up my friend.

Obama's made clear that Israel is on its own? You're hallucinating.

The 12 Imam sounds like the same nuttiness Christians hope for with the second coming.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey told Israeli leaders on Jan. 20 that the United States would not participate in a war against Iran begun by Israel without prior agreement from Washington, according to accounts from well-placed senior military officers.

    ----------------------------
There is a vast difference between those that believe in the 2nd coming of Christ; and those that believe in the coming of the 12th imam. The first, it happens when it happens; the latter, there is a specific year, and certain order of events that must occur.

That seems reasonable to me. Why would we allow Israel to declare war FOR us.

Re the Iman et al, if that's the only difference, it's not much. All my fundie friends seem to think there's a very definite order of events to the end times and the second coming. I'm as up with that as I am with the Mayan calendar stuff...

Who says Israel would declare war for us? Obama plays around with sanctions, meanwhile Iran's vamping up its nuclear systems - Iran wants Israel and the US blown off the map and we have a pansy president that has let the wolves in our doors. He won't defend Israel - he's Muslim, plain and simple.
I just gave you the difference re: Christ and the Imam, of course, there is a lot more differences between Islam and Christians but, I only mentioned what you brought up.

And what do you have to say about Pakistan and North Korea - two unstable countries - possessing nuclear weapons. Not to mention Israel, demonstrably a hawkish nation.

As I said, the predictions of end times seem endlessly foolish to me. 'Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.' Matt 6:34
  • Randice Ali ~ I... 2012/03/10 21:46:55
    Randice
The same I'd say about Iran. Iran I believe is however the closest and no doubt the more nuts of the bunch, but they have only a slight edge. I have no problem with Israel having nuclear weapons. Israel is the only democratic state in that region. The surrounding ones are not and want their strict religion (cult) imposed on the rest. Israel is the people's only hope that want to be free.

I'm not predicting the end times - no one knows the hour that will be. But I agree with your friends (or, whomever they are) - the signs are pointing in that direction.

Israel is rapidly devolving into a theocracy. Sadly, their treatment of the Palestinian people puts them on the wrong side of human right violations.

Turkey has a democratic government, possibly a stronger one than Israel.

They are acquaintances. I live in Cali's Bible Belt and meet people who believe in the literal adherence to the Bible. THEY ardently desire and believe in the end times.

Turkey has a democratic government stronger than Israel? That's odd... I'm sure you're aware of this? http://ec.europa.eu/enlargeme...

The OT serves as a good understanding of history - and personally, I love the NT... don't follow it nearly as much as I'd like to, but, I recognize I'm human.

Forgive me for not wanting to go chapter and verse on the Palestinian issue. I'm tired.

Re the NT, I'm with you. Lovely stuff (and a few oddities). I'm reading a fascinating book right now called 'The Existential Jesus' which examines the Gospel of Mark. Very powerful.

No problem on the Palestine issue.... there are just many misconceptions about what occurred. While I don't agree with everything about Israel, I do stand with them on this one.

I never heard of that book and did a search through Amazon. I admit, I'm not sure if I'd be annoyed or intrigued....

From what I read about John, I believe it said he was an agnostic. And from comments I read, some were written by Christians who stated even though the author stated he was a non-believer, they found the book intriguing (something to that effect).

He may well be an agnostic.

I remember taking an art history class from a dynamic and extremely bright professor. We studied a Biblical cycle by Giotto and the professor spoke eloquently and with great intimacy about the story as portrayed by the artist, so much so that it was like listening to a great preacher. I always wondered (but would never have asked) if he were a believer.

I have a hard time reading things by agnostics - everything I've read has nothing to do with enlightenment, but everything to do with a slam version of some sort. Maybe I'd be surprised by this book; I don't know..

Oh, I see. Well, I don't find that to be the case with this book. In fact, it was so powerful on the transfiguration I had to put it down for a bit. I don't know that I agree with everything he writes but it's certainly not a slam against the life of Jesus.

An agnostic is simply one who doesn't know unlike an atheist (or what commonly passes for atheist) who is someone who 'knows' there is nothing). A true agnostic is one with deep humility in the face of the vast unknown.

Anytime. Actually, I forgot where this started (assuming we didn't agree, I'm too lazy to go back and look), but, I've found regardless, even with those that we don't agree with, there's sometimes something in common. :-) Have a great day.

It's interesting the exact thing being argued about, irrational rhetoric, is in great evidence all through this poll. Stop downloading YouTube videos and clever cartoons. Stop calling anyone you don't agree with Hitler, a fascist, Jew hater, American Taliban, Nazis, liberal a**hole, conservative a**hole and all the rest of that crap. LISTEN to what others are saying then respond with a clear and logical argument. Uninformed, ignorant, and stupid people never listen to, or learn from, others.
