Marriage equality advocates in Ohio took one step closer Tuesday to overturning the state's 2004 constitutional amendment that restricts marriages in the state to only those between one man and one woman.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine (R) approved the petition language for an amendment that would redefine marriage in Ohio as “a union of two consenting adults, regardless of gender," according to the Columbus Dispatch.

The Freedom to Marry Coalition is now tasked with gathering 385,253 valid signatures of registered Ohio voters in order to put its marriage equality amendment on the Ohio ballot -- a goal that Ian James, the group's co-founder, told The Huffington Post he hopes to achieve by November 2013.

This battle is about changing the definition of a word. Marriage is between one man and one woman, civil unions are between one whatever and one whatever. Why not fight for the right to call a cat, a dog?

Can you prove it scientifically?
The Bible was written by men years after the events as the teaching stories were handed down by oral tradition. Seems that there is a lot of room for error.

Add to that the rewrites that the Bible has had over the years by different factions.

Add to that the chapters that were removed.

In the end all I believe you can get to is a belief that life started as a spontaneous event started by God. Science suggests a gradual process we know as evolution.

So, in the face of science you are arguing against people and their rights while clinging to the Bible which has the general message of love within it.

I can go for the love part but the taking of rights based on such evidence is an over reach in my opinion.

God is real, Jesus is real, Adam and Eve are real, your brain that science created it all, is fake! Idc what you say! I know God is real, I've talked to Him, I always pray to Him, and a bunch of Disciples wrote the Bible, not random men! So stop. And there is no error. Or rewrites! Except for the mormon's Bibles. And it was a simple comment! God did create Adam and Eve, not two men. A man can't make another man pregnant, God didn't want it that way! So no, I donot support gay marriage!

King James was a rewrite.
The chapters that were removed is man's editing.

Quite likely we are finished with our populate the Earth goal...Mission Accomplished....so maybe gay people are still good for adoption and to help keep the population from exceeding the bounty of the Earth to support them.

Can I ask that you use your creative mind to make the same points without the vitriol? Or what seems to be anger? Mealziz is a female and (seems) rather young. I would be "put off" if someone was addressing your (hypothetical) sister in the same vein...regardless of her position. Although it can seem repetitive discussing this issue with Christians, each one is an individual. Sure, they all seem to make the same "sales pitch," but cant we extend the courtesy and respect all people should be granted, including gays and lesbians? Thanks.

With all due respect Pat, I refuse to respect somebody who can refer to other human beings as "abominations." Clearly she didn't say abominations but it was implied that homosexuals weren't meant to be with the "Adam and Steve" comment. The point is I can't have any respect or in this case "sympathy" for somebody who believes that human beings are unequal based on there sexuality,race, or gender.

I understand where you are coming from. The question I would pose to you is this; how do we change it? Hypothetically, lets say you were wrong about something. Just plain old w-r-o-n-g! Do you think being cursed at and belittled would assist you in coming to terms with your error? It has been my experience that humans have a difficult time saying, "Im wrong." Some never come to terms with it. However, just place yourself in the hypothetical and ask yourself what approach would promote the most receptiveness in you. Imagine the perfect teacher and how this mentor would have interacted with you through the course of your life. Then extend that "ideal" to those around you. May peace be your partner, Guy.

Will it help these mentally ill patients ENOUGH that it will at least temporarily cure them to the point of making them feel "Normal?" . . . THAT is the Question. That's going to take some time to see the results on that one . . . At least until the general public realizes that the first reports were all based on political lies. Thus, what's the difference? Why be Truth-a-phobic? We have to go through that every, every, everyday, anyway. So, nothing's changed.

it is 2012 and change is always occurring not necessarily for the better. Whatever people want to do is up to them but when it starts to effect me and my future child then I have a problem.

Sure, they are the only ones that want to settle down and have a family. If they are that devoted to loving and nurturing, supporting a family structure, why should they be deprived of that opportunity.

Marriage is not a right! It is a God created union between Man and Woman. Food, Water, Shelter, hygiene, security, these are human rights and are deserved by virtue of living, marriage is not an inalienable human right anymore than advanced (especially free) education or free healthcare.

You just sound homophobic. I mean if your born homosexual it's not your fault and it is in no way a sin. Marriage should not be confined only to heterosexual couples. It should be between two people who love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together. Marriage is a right because firstly its not created by God secondly it's not against the law to get married anymore so it's a right. Homosexuals deserve the rights we deserve too.

have sex in marriage to bring offspring into the world. He did not
intend for two people of the same sex to get married. I hate the deed
but love the person, the same as god hates the sin, but loves the sinner.

God didn't make people to BE homosexuals. They CHOSE to be that way, just as we CHOOSE to steal, lie, gossip, murder, etc. The basic issue with gays is their rejection of Jesus Christ. The rest are just symptoms.

God's intent wasn't ever to make homosexuals, he did however give us freewill to do as we will. Ultimately, he knows the choices we're going to make before we make them (just as a parent knows their kid is going to have a car wreck but doesn't forbid them from driving). Just because people make choices that go against their design does not somehow validate the choice.

God's plan never fails and every place that Satan thinks he's succeeded we see in fact that he actually only assisted in bringing God's plan to fruition.
