Same-Sex Marriage Amendment In Ohio Gets Green Light. Rave If you support gay marriage

(▪‿▪)DoctorWhoGuru(▪‿▪) 2012/04/04 00:01:24

Marriage equality advocates in Ohio took one step closer Tuesday to overturning the state's 2004 constitutional amendment that restricts marriages in the state to only those between one man and one woman.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine (R) approved the petition language for an amendment that would redefine marriage in Ohio as “a union of two consenting adults, regardless of gender," according to the Columbus Dispatch.

The Freedom to Marry Coalition is now tasked with gathering 385,253 valid signatures of registered Ohio voters in order to put its marriage equality amendment on the Ohio ballot -- a goal that Ian James, the group's co-founder, told The Huffington Post he hopes to achieve by November 2013.

This battle is about changing the definition of a word. Marriage is between one man and one woman, civil unions are between one whatever and one whatever. Why not fight for the right to call a cat, a dog?

Awesome video i had seen the 'brown eye/ blue eye' experiment before but this was much more comprehensive. I was especiallly amazed at the difference in compasion by sports fans based on the color of a shirt.
I have seen some of this in my own life. I am a former Army Pathfinder and when my hair was short I recieved respect and people differed to my judgement. As my hair grew long this respect began to degrade and people became more suspicious of me if they did not know me; especially police officers. When I grew dreadlocks many people were outright suspicious of me automatically and automatically assumed I was lazy, unemployed or on drugs; especially the police. In fact I was manager of a health food store. Then when I got tired of that style and cut it off to short again I was automatically respected again.
All just because of a choice of hair style.

I'll rave it I'm not gay nor do I ever plan to become gay. As far as I'm concerned anyone should be able to marry whoever they want I think there are a few out there who would like to marry some farm animals as well. And again I don't care

No, marriage is a legal contract. Animals and children cannot enter contracts therefore they are not allowed to get married. As for family members, laws are in place against family marriages in an attempt to prevent incest which can cause problems with future offspring.

No rave. Marriage is a joke, and I'm not laughing. While the states have the right to define marriage, I personally believe that the government (federal, state OR local) should not define marriage and that it should be privatized.

i'm personally in favor of people being allowed to marry whomever they choose and to receive the full panoply of benefits and responsibilities and protections that the state bestows on married people ... i'm already married (going on 31 years or marriage and 36 years of being together) so gay marriage won't make any difference in my life, except knowing that my country treats the individual with dignity and respect, unlike those communist, theocratic and totalitarian countries that don not recognize and respect the right of the individual to make his/her own choices and to receive the protection and support of the nation for those choices ...

you are correct! we should let the state government decide who we should pair up with ... after all, the government knows better than the individual does who would be a good match for the individual ...people who pick their own significant others tend to choose people with similar interests, or people who are hot in bed, or people who remind them of their parents ... really, the government is in the best position to know that an individual should be paired up with someone who is a good business person or someone who has the same christian values ... i'm very pleasantly surprised to see that you are now in favor of big government in such a personal area like this!

I don't think government should be involved in any sort of recognition of marriage, gay or straight. But again, marriage is simply not a right.

"marriage is simply not a right"

how about an inalienable right given to us by our creator? not even that?

No. Marriage is not a right. End of story. You can't break that down into a more simple element.
