It's all "tolerance and acceptance" until you hear a dissenting opinion, huh?

I may not agree with him, but I have no problem with him having his own opinion.

This is a little more than a dissenting opinion. What if someone said that about Christians, or Jews, or Black people?

This may come as a shock to you, but people do. Daily. (Oh, don't forget "white people" in your list, they get offered up as suggestions for those to be killed as well)

I have no idea, I don't work for the Salvation Army. Perhaps you should Google their contact information.

As far as how we treat them, it depends on who they are, doesn't it?

Every one of them has paid a price for their comments.

    Oh yeah. They're suffering.
Limbaugh's loaded, Maher has so much money he can give a million to a man that is killing our country, Waters has been and still is in office for (how many?) years, Sharpton gets a paying gig on MSNBC.

You may want to look up the definition of "paid a price".

They have all been fired from their jobs or had some tangible consequence for their words. I'm not saying it's enough. I'm saying their reputations have been hurt by their comments, and the organizations they represented, have fired them.

No, but at least most of the ones I listed could definitely use a good ass kicking.

    Does that concern you?
It never occurred to you that never every "law" equals "justice"?
  • elijahin24 Outta' ... 2012/06/29 13:37:50
    elijahin24
I think people confuse "justice" with revenge. Justice means balance. Not just for the individual, but for society as a whole. It is a pipe-dream. If Rush Limbaugh (who I agree is a massive tool) says something which inspires Billy-Bob to go beat someone up, is Rush responsible? Not legally, but morally? Yeah, he is. So balance would say, punish Rush too. But to do that, sets a precident. Now let's say a satirist like Stephen Colbert says something, which is CLEARLY satirical; but someone doesn't get the joke; and they go beat someone up too. Is Colbert responsible? According to the precident set with Rush, yes he is. But is that justice? No, not really.
So we tweak and twist our norms and laws to be as balanced as possible, but true justice, is impossible. The ground shifts too much and too fast, to maintain absolute justice.

The more laws a society has, the more corrupt its citizens become.
  • elijahin24 Outta' ... 2012/06/29 13:58:59
    elijahin24
Humanity is corrupt by nature. We're all self-serving. Some of us have a better handle on it than others, but we all have a self-preservation instinct. Laws help us to put the needs of all above the needs of the individual.

They also relieve the masses from having to "think" about consequences.
They can just say, "That's illegal" and that supposedly ends the argument.
  • elijahin24 Outta' ... 2012/06/29 23:25:49
    elijahin24
It obviously doesn't END the argument. But hopefully the threat of consequences will be enough to discourage them from doing the things that are harmful.

You are speaking in absolutes. Of course not all crime and harm will be prevented by laws and penalties. But laws and penalties can prevent much if not most of what would go on. If you think I'm wrong, read about the wild west some time. Vigilante justice is anything but just.
  • Outta' ... elijahin24 2012/07/02 16:44:48

And when "the law" refuses to do it's JOB, it CREATES vigilantes.
  • elijahin24 Outta' ... 2012/07/02 17:01:36

    Yay Anarchy.
Vigilantes have no respect for the law, no matter how well it does its job. They are self-appointed judges, juries and executioners. They are anarchists, and they are a far bigger threat to national security, than does any crime that they claim to fight.

I don't exactly believe "F*ck the Bible", I just don't think it says the same thing it said thousands of years ago. The original Bible was probably WAY different.
