Russian space scientists are preparing the next 'giant leap for mankind' with the ambitious goal of gaining a foothold on the Moon within 10 years. The announcement of the daring project coincides with the 51st anniversary of the very first manned space flight.
They won't be allowed to colonize it, but they can study it more I guess. It's like Antarctica, It's not allowed to be legally anyone's, so they can only use it for science. The compound will probably be an international compound as well.
I wish we had an active space program again. Something that we could be proud of and excited about. I'd like to see us try to go to Mars. We've already been to the moon and while a permanent base would be good, been there, done that. Let's go to Mars.
A collosal waste of resources. Until we figure out how to live sustainably in a closed environment on Earth or anywhere else for that matter, this is doomed to failure. The costs to keep a Moon base supplied from Earth would be much too high. A space based station has the advantage of only having to overcome gravity during resupply missions in one direction, but even this was beset by numerous problems on the ISS. All of the supplies and support still come from Earth.
I'm all for it but that doesn't mean I think they'll pull it off. The costs would be (pardon the pun) astronomical. People in Russia are already starting to protest gov't corruption and waste, I can't imagine the bill behind this would just sneak through no sweat.
but i life in America
very ignorant of you not all Russians are drunks
Russians can usually tell who is Russian
he is not Russian
dont keep up with politics much
It's about time humans started taking higher risks and exploring more about the universe(well starting with the moon).
NOBODY has ever gotten through the Van Allen Belts!
