And now the government is the entity with the most employees in the country now.

So we have more consuming tax dollars, than are contributing. Somethings gotta give.

Their jobs do not create revenue. That's why they get treated like crap, but they do spend money. So yes, civil service jobs can grow the economy.

Public workers growing the economy is like saying you can grow your household income by giving your children bigger allowances !

Almost makes sense. In the same sense, I pay my daughter to cut the lawn, $20. It would cost me $50 from the traveling group of Mexicans. So in a way, she is saving me money and growing the household pot of money.

On the other side, the analogy falls apart when you think the govt can do something more efficientlly than a professional.

True, and if your daughter was government, she would need to hire a tax collector to collect that allowance, an accountant to track her allowance, more people to distribute her allowance to her, then for mowing the lawn, she would have to hire a union person to repair and maintain that mower, someone to set up the fuel contract and monitor the fuel deliveries, another person to verify that all the environmental requirements for that fuel are being met. another person to verify that the grass was cut, someone else to write reports showing how well the lawn was cut............... Each one taking a dollar or so from that $20 so she can now only afford to cut the lawn once a month instead of the $50 group of mexicans that show up every week.

Just think how much you would be saving if your kid did the lawn to cover their share of the household work. Not only would you save money but your kid would learn responsibility.

By your logic then, we should cancel all of the contracts that Defense Contractors have, as well as contractors that work for the State Department. They are all Public Workers. Let's cancel the water and waste departments as well.

I have plenty of 'clue', friend. Rush is the symbol of hate that this country needs to expel. He is the flag waver of an old train of thought that has done nothing but brought this nation into the gutter. He screams nonsense, is bigoted, a narcissist, and against the equal treatment of all others.

If one of my children could prepare another one for a job, then I would give that kid a bigger allowance. It might not help in the short run, but in the long run, the child who was prepared for a job would become self-supporting, and, who knows, maybe even support me in my old age.

Police, Firefighters and Teachers are government jobs, funded by tax money. They do not grow the economy but are a burden on the economy and require the taxes from several productive jobs to be supported. Rush is right ... get over it.

Police and Firefighters protect property. Teachers teach the next group of tax payers. They do have a profound influence.

Rush never said fire the ones we have besides it is up to local governments to hire teachers, firefighters and police...not the federal government. How can Obama dictate local budgets?
  • Tully kevjon 2012/06/14 17:55:22
    Tully
I didn't say anything about Obama. A lot of teacher pay comes from the state level. The Fed can infuse a load of cash and the state/county/city can disperse from there. Teachers got a raise in the Stimulus. Same can be done with firefighters and police.
  • kevjon Tully 2012/06/14 23:03:39
    kevjon
Obama is behind this propaganda, but how can teachers get a raise from the stimulus when their checks come from the counties they work in and not from the federal government. Schools get federal money based on attendance and it is up to the school to use that money where they see fit but a federal raise for teachers salaries binds the schools to a long term commitment. I think you are incorrect with that statement.
  • Tully kevjon 2012/06/15 04:42:18
    Tully
Maybe. My wife's a teacher. Its how it was explained to me.
  • kevjon Tully 2012/06/15 04:56:15
    kevjon
Than her school is telling her the wrong thing because teachers get paid by the tax dollars raised locally from peoples land tax values. The federal government has nothing to do with those taxes. This was just another liberal propaganda ploy to try and make voters believe that Obama is out to save teachers. You would think that teachers would be mad at Obama for driving our economy deeper into recession.
Most teachers that were laid off was because of the Barney Frank mortgage collapse that vacated thousands of homes cutting off those taxes to schools. That liberal caused mortgage collapse started this economic collapse first with the banks and then followed by job losses and consumer spending losses.
    One more liberal denial.
  • Tully kevjon 2012/06/15 11:27:45
    Tully
Not so much in Florida. Our teacher salaries and school funding come from lottery money on the state level and a local sales tax in county.
  • Wahvlvke Tully 2012/06/14 18:07:19

No one disputes that ... but they are still paid by taxes which is money taken out of the economy.

A burden, really? Saying taxes from several "productive" jobs, blah, blah, blah...somewhat insinuates that those in the profession of teaching, firefighting or being a police officer are not productive which is totally incorrect.

Their jobs do not produce any wealth. They are necessary service jobs and we all should appreciate them but they are still jobs that live off taxpayers. That's just the way it is ... sorry.

They are essential parts of the economy, but they are not part of the Growth of the economy. Without them, we would suffer, and in some cases die... as they are not producing a product, but a service that is funded by tax dollars, not pay for service monies

No exactly true. Not for teachers anyway, most spend hundreds of dollars on school supplies because so many students do not have the necessary items. Most have spent money helping students buy lunch or something like that, depending on the type of school that you teach. Plus, "public servants" pay taxes on the salaries they receive, just like the private sector. It's just not as much, because in most cases we don't make as much. I make about $20,000 less than I used to. That was my decision. I wanted to make a difference and do something other than be commended for making a good sale. I don't get why so many people (politicians, talk-show announcers, etc) want to demean those that chose a profession to help or teach others.

You bought a fire truck or school lately. Maybe a police car. That takes tax payer money. The new fire station where I live cost 1.2 million. This is a city with a population of about 10,000. Really fancy station with a state of the art weight room. All paid for with tax money.
  • Tarheel Mark P. 2012/06/14 21:35:34

Have you bought a manufacturing plant? What does that have to do with anything?I stated that teachers spend a lot of their own money buying school supplies. You had stated that equipment is bought by taxpayer dollars. A teacher needs school supplies so it's something we have to buy. So what? I've spent thousands of dollars on classes (again out of my own pocket). And genius, I'm a taxpayer as well.
  • kevjon Tarheel 2012/06/14 23:10:14
    kevjon
Manufacturing plants are bought by private sector money and not tax money. I thought you said that you only make 1600 a month? So why are you buying kids their supplies?
The fact that you contribute doesn't make you better than the rest, we contribute thousands a year toward the needy but that comes from my pocket and no where else. I also sent my kids to private schools and had to pay public school fees on top of that, now do you think that is fair?
I love the way you defend public servant jobs but trash private sector companies that actually pay for your salary.
  • Mark P. Tarheel 2012/06/15 11:42:44

All that stuff is paid for with tax dollars, just like the salaries of of police, Fire and teachers. Thats the cost to the private sector.
