Rumsfeld is factually wrong. The US would have membership and a veto on the committee set up by the convention to provide any payments to poorer nations. Thus, the US would never have to pay anyone anything unless we chose to do so. It is ridiculous for the US not to be a member of a treaty that all our major allies (UK, Canada, Australia, etc.) are party to.

If you want to keep poorer nations poor, make them dependent on the wealthier nations. If you want the people of poor countries the feel worthless and less human make them dependent on wealthy countries. It's another way to control the less fortunate.Worthless democrat liberals!

Reject the law and totaly pull out of the UN. If this law goes into affect it will give the UN the ability to come into the USA and tell us were we can live how we can use our land and our waters. They already are telling the Government that we need to give the Lands back to the Indian Tribes out west.

Anything that puts some other entity like the U.N. in charge over our government should be rejected !! Find the mini-series "Amerika". It was on ABC sometime in the eighties. In it U.N. treaties were used to slowly take control of the country with the help of an unknown who was elected President and handed us over to our enemies at that time, the U.S.S.R.. Sound familiar ?

It is becoming clear the UN is being used to infringe on our sovereignty and this "entitlement" complex is becoming global.

These pissant countries who war among themselves for centuries want us to pay for it.

It seems we may have been too generous over the last few decades, now countries see our generosity as an entitlement.

I think helping poorer people/countries should be voluntary, not mandated by law.

Sending aid to a foreign nation is not a Constitutionally authorized power of the federal government. It is, however, Constitutional for an individual to do.

Yes! Constitutionally, ALL the money the fed gov receives in revenue is supposed to go ONLY for the costs of running the government and it is only supposed to be taking from the private sector (businesses and indivudals alike) ONLY the bare amount necessary to run the government. It is NOT supposed to be using taxpayer funds for welfare (foreign or domestic, not for other nations, not companies, not for science or the arts and not for individuals). Go read the Constitution, it clearly lays out the powers and purpose of the federal government and taxing the people to give that money to someone else is not one of the enumerated powers/purposes granted to the fed gov.

The Constitution is quite specific about enumerating the things the fed gov is allowed to do, and foreign aid, welfare to the poor or the banks or corporations is NOT allowed! Neither is the fed gov allowed police powers, the Constitution lists only three federal crimes: piracy, treason, and counterfeiting.

All other police powers are left to the States, with the County Sheriff, Constitutionally, being the highest law enforcement authority in any County (he has authority and power over municipal and State law enforcement personnel and even over the unlawful federal law enforcement agents when they encroach on his/her County).

It is not only a question of spreading our wealth, but of losing our country's sovereignty. Once that is gone, we can never get back what we have signed away. Why are the current people in power so determined to undermine our power as a country, and promote outside influences over the welfare of our citizens? We no longer even put up a fight. Oh you want us to pay out more money for every cook a manny program or idea, no problem we have lots of money to throw away. Oh we are losing individual liberties guaranteed to us in our constitution, oh well, the needs of the global community outweigh the needs of our citizens. Our enemies no longer have to go to war with us, or engage in physical conflicts, they just say boo and we roll over dead willingly.

Oh, yeah, let's "share our wealth" with poorer countries equally, as we have been doing all these years, right? Hello? Bullcrap. The United States already doles out monies to poorer countries and oftentimes the U.S. flag is the only marker visible for projects. We need not sign any treaty with any other country for such nonsense. Treaties are merely tools for establishing precedents for outsiders to meddle in American business. Forget it. We are and always have been more than generous. Time for those other countries to jump right on in and start doing their fair share. Right.

Asking war criminal Rumsfeld's opinion on matters of international law is like hiring Charles Manson for his opinion on raising healthy well adjusted children. Scumbags like Rumsfeld would love to be able to rape the Earth without any consequences. Privatize gain and socialize costs, thats the name of the game for these motherfu**ers. And in the end, we all lose.

Rummy should be spending his time under the radar, instead of criticizing ANYONE. He should be happy to be out of jail, forget his opinion on foreign policy.

But he is CORRECT on this treaty, it demands that all first world nations supply the means by which third world nations can be equal.

It takes OUR right to national waters and National beaches away, and basically makes the US a project of the UN.
