Ron Paul On Murdered Navy Seal: He Pretty Much Deserved It

Former Rep. Ron Paul apparently isn't quite ready to leave the spotlight. Today on his Twitter feed, the failed presidential candidate decided to opine on the recent murder of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who was helping a fellow soldier recover from PTSD at the time he was killed.

Kyle was known as the "deadliest" sniper and holds the record for the most sniper kills of terrorists in U.S. history. Kyle was a hero and a family man who dedicated his post-military life to helping soldiersrecovering from war. I spoke to him on the phone a year ago when his best selling book "American Sniper" came out and he was nothing but a gentleman.

Would you give a arsonist a gas can and a set of matches?

Would you give a serial rapist a knife and rope?

Would you take someone suffering from mental disorder to a shooting range with live ammo?

Why is it that the neocons scream bloody murder every time Paul quotes the Bible? First the golden rule and now this.

Anyway, everyone is freaking out over nothing. He just makes two points. one of common sense and his experience as a doctor (dont bring someone with ptsd to a firing range, and one of Christian teachings. In short it is fate to die as you lived. Kyle lived and died by the gun. Our fate is likely similar if we continue down this path. But again its fate whether you deserve it or not.

Its more a warning to us all that we've abandoned not only our liberties for the illusion of security, but we also abandoned the teachings of Jesus and the Bible as well.

Half the reason I don't like Ron Paul is his obnoxious rude zombie followers, the other half is his wacky foreign policies. This statement shows he's more of a nut than I thought.

Sounds like he mispoke and it came out insensitive sounding. I think top comment makes a lot of sense but by no means did Chris Kyle deserve it! Not in the least!

I believe his oath is to protect us from all enemies foreign and domestic. Domestic would be unconstitutional commander in chief and a willingness to fight in unconstitutional wars. In order to be a constitutional leader of the military, you must be natural born. Obama does not qualify, so any thinking marine would realize.

..it says the victim killed "terrorists"...if the kills were made here in America, the dead are terrorists; if these kills are in Afghanistan, the dead are freedom fighters, fighting the invader of their homeland and killer of their citizens, all for no reason...

Um, that isn't a Ron Paul quote - that's a Jesus quote. Nowhere did he say the man deserved to die. He is also a doctor, a doctor opining on the "treatment" of an individual with a clinical illness / *disorder.

It's a sad tragedy, but a somewhat predictable one.

The Iraq War veteran charged with killing a former Navy SEAL sniper and his friend on a Texas shooting range had been taken to a mental hospital twice in the past five months and told authorities he was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, police records show.

Eddie Ray Routh, 25, also told his sister and brother-in-law after the shootings that he "traded his soul for a new truck," according to an Erath County arrest warrant affidavit obtained by WFAA-TV. Police said Routh was driving the truck of victim and ex-Navy SEAL Chris Kyle at the time of his arrest.

Mr. Paul did NOT say "he deserved it." You might just be called a Liberal with this kind of "spin."

I vastly admire Chris Kyle for doing 4 tours in Iraq to serve his country, and even more importantly, I suspect, was his going to make sure as many American solders and Marines came home alive and in one piece as possible. Ron Paul tweeted nothing offensive. RIP Chris, and God Bless....

The reference to PTSD is accurate, but portraying Paul's saying "Live by the sword, die by the sword" as Paul saying he deserved it is a gross misrepresentation.

I don't believe having the most sniper kills is something to admire. I think Ron meant it was ironic in a way that Chris was shot like he shot other men but he should have kept it to himself. Karma does get back at others.

I do not interpret what he said as suggesting the victim "deserved it." He was suggesting that firing guns is not an appropriate therapy to treat PTSD! It is a bit insensitive to say so so soon after the tragedy, but many others are raising the same issue. That does not mean the victim "deserved it."

We don't see it as appropriate but in the psychiatric field it is called desensitivation therapy. Like showing someone who is afraid of, say spiders, constant pictures of spiders in an attempot to decrease their fear of spiders., It is a common treatment for phobias. I don't this this is apprioporiate but perhaps someone treating the killer did. I have a fear of snakes and have tried such therapy...didn't work for me but it does for some people.
