Ron Paul Cuts Campaign: Could a Libertarian Ever Win?

In a carefully worded statement sent out by Ron Paul's campaign chairman on Tuesday morning, the GOP candidate announced that he's... Well, he's not exactly dropping out of the race, but he is conceding defeat. Jesse Benton wrote, "Unfortunately, barring something very unforeseen, our delegate total will not be strong enough to win the nomination. However, our delegates can still make a major impact at the National Convention and beyond."

For many, Mitt Romney has been the winner for some time. While Paul had enormous public support and the potential to significantly impact voting, he hadn't been faring too well in caucuses and primaries, and only had 104 delegates to Romney's 966. But Benton says things could have played out differently if other candidates like Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich had stayed it. As for Paul's new direction, his team is "doing everything in our power to work with out supporters." And for the record, he says it's "unlikely" he'll back Romney. Could someone like Ron Paul, just shy of a third party, ever hope to win?

Ron Paul would have been America's first libertarian President if the powerful alliance of state and corporations (especially corporate media) hadn't done everything they could to sabotage and marginalize him. That's ok though...try as they might, they can no longer sweep these powerful ideas back under the rug now that they're out and gaining almost viral popularity.

At this point, they can only try to forestall the inevitable. A free and voluntary society is coming. The only thing we can't predict with much certitude is whether we will transition painlessly and peaceably, in time to save the economy, or whether the reform will come after a series of painful lessons learned at the cruel hands of dictators, central planners, and kleptocrats.

Well, I find that extremely hard to believe that you know more about the Constitution and the Founding Fathers than a Congressman who has been in politics for 30+ years and has served it consistently.

I will have to respectfully disagree considering I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate that adheres to the Constitution. Obama/Romney/Bush/Clinton are Constitutionally illiterate, like all those suffering from 'Ron Paul Derangement Syndrome'.

His whole platform is based around less Federal government and more States rights. Where are you getting all of your false information?

Then why does he advocate ending the federal prohibition on drugs and allowing states to decide what is legal or not?
Why did he advocate revoking the Supreme Court's ability to hear abortion cases so states could decide how to handle it? (and yes Congress can do that. Congress decides what the supreme court can hear outside their original jurisdiction).
Still on abortion, why does he advocate states tackling the issue, if they illegalize it, as if it was a crime murder? Something states are to handle.

He's always advocating and speaking of how the 10th Amendment should be trusted and for the Feds to back off.

He never advocated that. He introduced a bill to revoke and jurisdiction the Supreme Court claimed it had, and he wanted to leave it up to the states.
In fact, I think he voted against and criticized the idea of turning the constitution into a dictionary.

All you are doing is prove your ignorant and love stereotypes.

I'm not a Ron Paul supporter, but it's obvious you don't have a clue here. Did you listen to any of the debates or have you read anything that's been said during the Republican primaries? I'll give Ron Paul credit that he does know what the constitution says regarding Federal vs. states rights. He's not for no governance and no infrastructure, but compared to what Obama wants it might seem that way since Obama wants total control.

None of those are related to infrastructure. Infrastructure is mostly transportation related, like roads and railways.

Anyway, he isnt going to kill medicare and social security. He's only proposing to allow people to Opt out. This might mean SS will return to its roots when it was purely optional. SS will only be eliminated if the vast majority of the public (probably around 80%) opt out. Meaning it'll probably stay if enough people believe they still need it.

The Postal Service is specifically authorized by the constitution, and Paul never advocated axing it.

Public Schools, and many other social services are governed by the state. He never advocated killing those. He just wanted the department of education out, because its illegal.

Financial regulations? Last time I checked he wanted to repeal acts like Dodd Frank that loosened regulations and allowed bubbles to grow and burst. Regulation isnt always good, and isnt always bad. It just depends on the type and whether its equally enforced.

International Trade? He's advocating trading with all countries and even ending the embargo on Cuba.

Only a few of your claims are right, like stimulus spending (because that is just stealing from us and giving it to big banks and corporations that cause our messes).
But whomever you are hearing this crap from is either a liar or and idiot.

Article 1 section 8 of the constitution says (among other things omitted for brevity)

The Congress shall have Power...To establish Post Offices and post Roads

As for "sociological infrastructure", that's some BS term someone came up with to describe unconstitutional government programs.

You have no clue what you're talking about.

No, it means that power is decentralized. The federal government is supposed to perform only the duties specifically delegated to it by the constitution. The rest, per the 10th Amendment, are reserved for the states and the people.

Minarchist* don't typically get elected and the reason being is they don't offer empty promises and over spending like 95% of politicians do (on both the left and the right). They want to take office in order to leave you alone... how dare they!
