Los Angeles Lakers small forward Ron Artest is changing his name to "Metta World Peace," TMZ reports.

Uh, yeah. We're a little confused, too.

[M]etta means loving, kindness, happiness and all that jazz.

We're told Ron wants to put the new last name -- Peace -- on the back of his L.A. Lakers' jersey.

Whatever floats his boat.

Considering Artest's history, calling himself anything having to do with peace is kind of ridiculous. Far more so than Lloyd "All World" Free (so called for his shooting from anywhere, not his talent) changing his name to World B. Free.

but dennis has always been like that, not just all of a sudden I'm going to do this. Rodman was like that with the pistons back in the day, then the bulls. It was shock value and it pulled in people to see what he would do next. Ron is just trying to be cool and failing poorly
