Is this a practical idea? Will not any drilling off Florida will be fiercely opposed by the tourism lobby and many residents? The environmental battle against drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Reserve will be intense.

"One can be legitimately sceptical about the prospects for delivering all of these objectives within 7 years. Congressional approval will be needed for the transfer of powers to the states and Mr Romney is not likely to have a united Congress."

"The one set of voters the plan won’t win over are those of the environmentalists. A document which promises to reduce existing controls on everything from offshore drilling to new nuclear developments, will if anything, harden the dividing lines and bring out the environmentalists despite their disappointment with the Obama administration. But perhaps the calculation is that they are not going to vote Republican anyway and that there are more votes to be won in states which benefit from these ideas." - the FT

We need to move away from fossil fuels! They are polluting are waters and lands. The only reason we haven't done it already is because the big oil & energy companys run America! They can't allow Americans to have free wind and solar power running things or they'll lose trillions. They could care less about the environment OR the people.

Oil and coal are last centuries fuels that this century will be paying dearly for, in the way of destruction of homes and infra structure, crop losses, business interuption and weather chaos. The world needs to turn away from fossil fuels before they destroy it.

We have it, drill for it! It will be the only way to get America's energy independence! For all of those who say no - please make sure you don't own a car, don't use public transportation, grow your own food and you generate your own energy for your home. Oh yeah, be sure not to buy anything that is plastic. Anything short of that, just makes you a hypocrite!

We can be and already should be energy self sufficient. The ignorant people out there that expect that wind and solar are the answers are just plain stupid. Get some common sense.

People do not know it, but my new Electricity Machine will change the world in a very positive way. You can not drill. The world is a cup. It does not matter where you put the straw in to suck it out, sooner or later it will become empty. My Electricity Machine is a nonstop 100% clean producing and making Electricity.

The real question to me is whether he intends on revoking subsidizing selling US produced oil to other nations. Whether we drill here or not is meaningless if our tax dollars are wastes practically giving oil to other nations.

As for whether we should drill, leave it up to the state of Alaska, and continue looking for other sources.

It will do nothing the lobbyists (Romney) are suggesting will do.

    1. It will not reduce oil prices in the US.
    2. See #1

The only thing it would do, is shift billions in profit from large oil companies over there, to large oil companies over there.

    Meh...

It All goes on the open market anyway so who gives a Big Fat Rats Butt anyway besides the Big Fat Rats who are going to make a killing selling our oil to China . Oh yeah flood the market with oil and get a nickel off a gallon Pss. Now if Romney said we was going to keep this oil home I would get on my knees and personally kiss his azz but as is he can kiss mine until he starts doing things for the people and not the corporations .

They should drill into his head. Apparently his brain is so rotten, it turned into oil.

WE can either drill for our own oil, or give money to the muslims so they can slaughter women and homosexuals.

Most of our foreign oil comes from Canada.

    http://www.npr.org/news/graph...

    1. Canada (18.2%)
    2. Mexico (11.4%)
    3. Saudi Arabia (11.0%)
    4. Venezuela (10.1%)
    5. Nigeria (8.4%)
    6. Angola
    7. Iraq
    8. Algeria
    9. United Kingdom
    10. Brazil

I think Saudi Arabia is despicable, just as you do, but the far larger problem is oil consumption itself. IMO, of course.

I suspect that the figure for Venezuela will be less after the explosion at their main refinery last week.

Possibly. More likely (IMO), they will just increase the growing percentage of gasoline (not oil) Venezuela already imports. Much of it from the US.

It seems Venezuela is having issues in refining oil, not pumping and shipping it. This explosion will probably hurt Venezuela more than any of their oil exports.

    No issue with that.

I just think that until we develope alternate energy, we need to quit financing those who would overthrow us.
