Some people criticize Mitt Romney and label him out of touch with the 'common man' because of his wealth. He is very wealthy and made his wealth on Wall Street. He worked hard, made investments, and made a profit for himself, the company and the shareholders. An American Capitalism story of success.

So, why all the attacks on Romney's money? Why does anyone care what he does or doesn't do with his money? People complain about him not paying enough in taxes when they should be screaming for TAX REFORM instead!!

"But Blue, Warren Buffet says rich people should pay more in taxes?" Mr. Buffet could donate ALL his BILLIONS to the govt and it wouldn't even scratch the national DEBT!!

Okay, so Romney doesn't have to struggle to pay his mortgage. He may be able to send his kids to private schools and colleges. He can afford to buy his wife nice things like Cadillacs. He doesn't worry about the price of gas and groceries like we do.

I thought America was a place where people aspired to a higher standard of living? They worked hard to make a better life for themselves and their children. They frowned upon depending on the govt for assistance. And most of all, they celebrated the success of others and were proud of capitalism.

The economy is the central issue of this election and attacking a candidate's personal success in his business career is only a distraction. Let's stick to the issues.

So what if Mitt Romney is a rich white guy? Is that really such a bad thing?

complaining about his wealth is just a campaign tactic. i'd think that i'd prefer to have someone successful for president -someone who has DEMONSTRATED success- than someone that is a bumbling fool.

    What would it matter anyway! obama came in a poor black man, earns a couple of hundred thousand as President and he makes MILLIONS on the side! So a homeless, penniless man could become president and leave office a multi-millionaire! ; }

That's a good point! But he actually never worked at anything lucrative. And he never earned a substantial living. As a lawyer I don't believe either he or his ho were successful. Of course WE provided him with education and most likely living expenses. I think he's one of those dudes who cleans up well and can presented as being 'somebody'. Unfortunately!

Your right about him never working at anything lucrative. I would really like to know who financed all his travels. We know his grandparents paid for his prestious private schooling. Someone was grooming this guy and picking up all his expenses.

His persona represents everything that I want to see in a leader. But that doesn't necessarily make him the best person for the job at this time. Maybe he just needs to get angry. Yeah, I'd like to see him mad because maybe then he might be the kind of president I would like. Tough! Churchvillian!

It's not about color. It's not about being rich. It is about what he was willing to do to make the money. When Bain Capital first started they were primarily involved in venture capital They helped Staples get started. Then within a year or 2 they changed tactics. They bought up small companies and made Bain a management company for the bought company. Then the bought company purchased other similar businesses. As the management company Bain received a percentage of the purchase price for each purchase. In order to purchase the other businesses the bought company had to borrow huge sums of money. As the company debt got bigger and bigger the business became less and less profitable. I don't think Bain was deliberately trying to bankrupt the companies they bought. They were gambling that the originally purchased company could be turned into an empire within its field. Bain made money even when the gamble didn't pay off. Often Bain made more money when the company they purchased went bankrupt than when the company was successful.

Then there is the fact that he has money in banks in the Cayman Islands. I don't know about you, but when I hear Cayman Islands, I think money laundering.

    changed tactics?

venture capitalism has all kinds of tactics. bankrupting a company is a last option. a lot of companies that seek out venture capital are already dead or mortally wounded. that's not Bain's fault. that's the previous management.

when venture capitalists do what you accuse Bain of doing 'everyday' they serve the same purpose as a dung beetle. they are wringing the last bit of value out of the company.

you may think what you want about him having money overseas. the IRS frowns, severely, on hiding money overseas. seeing that he has no problems with the IRS, it seems what you think isn't the reality of the situation.

First, I'm not sure any of these people could be called uberrich. JFK and Ted inherited money. Kerry married money. John Edwards made his money as an attorney. If he had claimed that his ability to become rich made him more qualified to be president then he would have had no cause to complain when people put the way he made his money under a microscope.

America has more billionaires than any previous time in history, so Romney is not a solitary standout. It is once again the Gilded Age for a few. What Americans are aware of is the wide gap between the disappearing middle class and the uberwealthy.

People are not jealous or envious of the super wealthy like Romney. Is he out of touch with common man? Yes, of course. He has never lived that life. He couldn't even identify a donut. He seems awkward when surrounded by commoners in baseball caps and John Deere T-Shirts. Romney's handlers now keep him back behind the rope line.

I'd sure as hell rather have a successful business man running the country instead of a career politician. Oh wait, we don't even have that right now. I forget, what did Obama do before he became president.

We have never had a successful businessman as president. We had two businessmen become president. Neither was particularly successful Harry Truman had several failed businesses. George Bush came from wealth and his first attempt at business was in oil. Investors were mostly friends of the Bush family. They lost 50% of their investment. Then he got a group of investors together to buy the Texas rangers This venture was successful primarily because it was heavily subisized by the taxpayers od arlington texas.

He's not out of touch because he's rich. He's out of touch because he's an spoiled rotten little bastard, has terminal foot in mouth disease and flip flops like a dying fish on a dry dock. The man has no people skills , is a phony and that is why he will lose. The average person, not you Cons, will see right through him after the conventions and during the debates and that will be the end of Mittens. Then he can go back to building his elevator for his wife's many cars and destroying the surroundings of his beautiful neighborhood in La Jolla.

It isn't a bad thing unless it keeps you from seeing reality which it obviously does in Romney's case.
Proud of capitalism? Why would a system of exploitation, waste and corruption that's destroying the country be a source of pride?
Why is accumulating wealth while adding nothing to society admirable?

Romney isn't a story of success he's a story of inheritance.

With excellent business credentials and a proven record of accomplishment in anything Mr. Romney has been involved in.

But to listen to Obama, we're supposed to hate Mr. Romney for his accomplishments and station in life that he worked for yet we're supposed to vote for Obama who can't run on his record and continually hides his background?
