Romney Thinks That Obama Supporters Are 'Victims' Who Rely on Government Handouts: Is He Right?

Romney has gone and done it again. The Republican presidential candidate called 47 percent of Americans "victims" for supporting President Obama in a recent video of him talking at a private fundraiser.

Romney thinks Obama supporters are living off of state handouts, and he is probably right for about 10-15 percent of them... but it's that other 85-90 percent of Democrats that go to work and participate in the economy that he should be trying to get to vote for him! Insulting potential voters is most likely not the wisest strategy, and you know Obama will be all over this in the debates. Remember Regan Democrats? That's what he needs to win. Good luck with this one, Mittens.

NEWS.YAHOO.COM reports:
Mitt Romney stood by his comments captured on a hidden camera at a closed-door fundraiser earlier this year in which he called supporters of President Barack Obama "victims" and said they are reliant on government handouts. In a hastily arranged news conference Monday night, he called his words "off the cuff" and "not elegantly stated."

    More like exploiters.

The vast majority of people that take government assistance should be earning their own way instead of taking the earnings of others.

But it is easier to vote for Democrats than actually working so the collapse of our economy will continue.

Don't know the exact percentage, but there is a large bloc of the electorate who is perfectly happy to sit on the couch, watch reruns of Jersey Shore, and have no desire to improve their situation. If they get sick, run to the ER, if they're hungry, they've got food stamps, and they're perfectly happy to stay on the dole. And if anybody believes they're not out there, they're not living in Obamas' brave new world.

Republicans say the government is enslaving them and putting them on welfare and food stamps. Whatever happened to the old GOP mantra of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, pride, and respect to those who need services more than themselves, as well as the taxpayer who funds it all. All this rhetoric about Medicare while dismissing needy children who did not ask to be born. Now that is a group of self entitled, "victims" if I've ever seen one.

Romney is right to stand by his comments. Obama's base supporters do have many that depend on the government. That does not mean they are stuck there. Romney can do more to pull people up and out of poverty than Obama. There has been a rise in the number of people living in poverty under Obama. Where did these people come from - the shrinking middle class. Some people will always support Obama - that will not change. It is the Independents and voters who are disappointed in the Obama administration that will decide this election.

if that were the case, then we're all screwed.

fortunately, two more months of bad job reports, a shrinking economy and war overseas will do him in, even if Mitt were struck mute.

    Romney landslide is coming.

i receive no "handouts" and I am an Obama supporter. My Senior citizen neighbor who utilized the GI bill to go to college and build a successful business following WW2 now receives medicare, social security and veterans benefits to pay for "in home care". Is he a victim - I do not think so. He is a republican.

Most of the people that don't pay taxes are in RED states. The main issue is that he said that he didn't care about the 47 percent. That's why he won't get my vote, because he cares about the cooperations and the "Job creators" more then the people.

47% of the American people get some type of government money in the mail or direct deposit, excluding Social Security people who most of them paid into the system.

We the American people let our government do this over time, and now one must ask, how is our leadership going to get people off this dependency?

I am 60 yrs. old, I worked as an RN most of my life, and I will vote Obama. I paid into Social Security AND Medicare as well as property taxes, etc. I also pay federal income taxes & have NEVER had any year I did not have to pay taxes because of tax breaks, etc. If receiving Medicare & Social Security is considered a "handout" by the Republicans then count me in. If you don't want to be handed a "voucher" by the big insurance companies for your health care when you reach age 65 & you don't want to see Soc. Sec. done away with you had better wake up.

The one to save Social Security and Medicare is Romney. Obama is taking Medicare funding and throwing it at Obama care. You need to read and educate yourself on both sides.
