Romney Says Obama Will Lie in Debates: Will Mitt Lie Too?

17/09/2012Finding bright spots in the US economy is a seemingly thankless task. The unemployment rate, despite dipping slightly in previous months, remains above 8%; last month, employers could only add 96,000 jobs to payrolls, well below economists' forecasts of 125,000 jobs. There’s no doubt that these figures weighed on the mind of Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke when he announced a third round of quantitative easing last night. QE3 will see the Federal Reserve buy $85 billion in new assets — including $40 billion in mortgage-backed securities each month — until the end of the year. But more significantly, this commitment to bond buying will be open-ended; the Fed has said it will continue to buy assets if the economic situation does not improve markedly. It is a fairly extraordinary intervention — but will it work? This is the question on all minds I absolutely cannot fathom the voluntary surrender of national sovereignty that the EU says it requires. These are all old cultures, centuries in the making, which are distinct from each other.What's so frustrating though, is that the problems are all man-made, and man-made laws are standing in the way of resolution, i.e. a country cannot leave the euro, the euro is permanent and indivisible, and that if a country actually does leave the euro, it automatically leaves the EU as well. The EU countries can continue to have the free movement of people, good and services, and they can continue to harmonize where it makes sense, but to sit back and watch as their nations wither to the status of provinces and protectorates...it's shameful.
