Romney Paid $1.9M Taxes. Harry Reid Avoids Prior Claims: Who Won Tax Return Scuffle?

dems need to think before speaking, or, if they're going to make slanderous claims, they need to make them less verifiable.

Romney didn't prove Reid wrong at all. Reid said that Romney didn't pay taxes for 10 years, Romney's only given two years of tax returns. We need 10 more years to know if Reid was lying.

If you are not better off than you were 4 years ago you can thank Romney for shipping people's jobs to China. Or thank the Republican Congress for saying no to jobs bills. Just the other day they voted against a bill that was pid for and passed but the Republicans decided to filibusterit. A bill to help returning vets get help finding jobs. The alleged "didn't pay any taxes" refered to the years before 2010. So far, Romney hasn't released the tax returns for several years back, and those are the ones people want to see: the ones when he had his foreign accounts (before he closed them just prior to running this time for the candidacy)

Even this won't shut them up.

Romney is a slick weasel. He has often said he pays his taxes and only what is owed ,not a dime more. So why did he overpay?

Earlier when Romney released his 2010 tax return and his accountant’s estimate of what he would owe for 2011 once that return was ready to be filed, he said that he’d pay about 13% of his income in federal taxes.

Enter Harry Reid who said Romney probably hadn’t paid any taxes in some years, Romney insisted that he’d never paid less than 13%. Imagine Romney’s disappointment when the accountants told him that his actual 2011 tax bill worked out to LESS THAN 13%. The only thing to do was to cut a bigger check to the Treasury, so he could save face. Also, after the election is over, his accountant will ask for an adjustment and that overpayment will be corrected. Pretty smooth, eh?

Here is Romney, talking to ABC News in July: “I don’t pay more than are legally due, and frankly if I had paid more than are legally due I don’t think I’d be qualified to become president. I’d think people would want me to follow the law and pay only what the tax code requires.” Here ! Here ! For once, I agree with Willard !

He overpaid by only declaring 2.5 million that he gave the Mormon church instead of the 4 million. If he had claimed the entire 4 million then his tax rate would have been under the 13.9 % that he claimed he had never paid less than. Besides if he loses or even if he becomes president he can always ammend his taxes and the moiney will be returned to him. The summary of taxes is a lot of hot air. He can put anything he wants on that summary. While the average American is paying 15% in taxes he is paying less. Many millionaires pay nothing in taxes. But you Soda Head people go ahead and worship at the feet of someone who calls you a moocher and thank him when he takes away your rights to deduct childcare credits, mortgage interest rates and several other things he will not allow you to deduct therby raising your tax obligation while he plans to give huge tax breaks to the wealthy. If the Romney tax breaks pass then his next taxes will go down to 0.85%.

Uh...you do realize that ANYONE who has capital gains (investment) income gets taxed at 13% for that income, right? Or have you worshiped at the altar of the gubbment check too long? Only a stupid liberal could twist giving to charity into a bad thing. Do you have any idea how many really huge things he has done for no pay whatsoever? He turned around the Olympics for one, and oh yeah, was the governor of Massachusetts. He is a true leader, not a community organizer, whatever the hell that is. The capital gains tax is 15%, not 13%.

Also, Romney was a disaster as governor of MA, and he took a record amount of federal subsidy money for the Olympics.

In that 47% that Romney spoke of is also the men and women in foreign countries putting their life on the line.

Giving to charity. LOL Romney is a bishop in the mormon church where he is required to pay at least 10% of his earnings. How many charitable organizations do you know of that will only help you if you beccome a mormon?. Any Goodwills or Salvation Army places? Any? They are a corporation worth bilions. A secretive organization whose goal is to get a mormon in the Whitehouse . Romney's cousin said that Romney has been being groomed for this since he was 12 years ol. His church is to put the beliefs of the mormon church ahead of any political office.

He got Romney to release his returns didn't he? Although it seems a little calculated to release them right now when he is desperately in need of damage control. Whatever, at least he finally released them.

Romney still hasn't released the 12 years worth of tax returns Obama has released, or the ten years worth his father George released.

I suspect a 12 year tax return from the Romney's will show not just a net payment of zero but a substantial number of refunds despite paying nothing in taxes.

Why else would he hide his tax returns while running for the most powerful office in the land?

I suspect the thing Romney's really afraid of us seeing is that he participated in the 2009 IRS amnesty for tax cheats who hid their money in Swiss banks.

You know, I haven't followed up the Romney tax issue like I wanted to. Family medical issues knocked me off Sodahead and the internet itself for a few months. The election has rendered the question moot anyway.

I hypothesized Romney was getting money back from the IRS despite paying nothing in taxes and that's what it looked like happened per the Bloomberg revelations.

there is no doubt on who won this little skirmish. romney was forced to release his returns.
he did not want to do this at all. he did it in desperation in order to change the conversation. hence the friday afternoon release. now is there any real doubt.
in the grand scheme of things this will mean little or nothing, just a political game both sides play. in the old day the gop would win these little skirmishes all the time.
today the democrats play the game alot better.

It's obvious that you know nothing about the release of Romney's tax returns. Romney had already given the time schedule for releasing his 2011 returns many many months ago. The law requires that he release 2 years. He had released his 2010 returns and promised to release his 2011 returns as soon as they were ready which he did Friday. Romney has NOT released any of the 10 years that the liberals are screaming for. What he did publish was a summary of the last 20 years showing what his effective tax rate was for those years. You're right about one thing though, in the grand scheme of things this will mean nothing. Obama is going to suffer a landslide defeat in November because of his fiscal irresponsibility and the failing economy, not because of Romney's tax returns.

You're not disappointing me because it happened just the way that Romney said that it would. You're talking in circles. The law says that Candidates must release two years of tax returns and that is exactly what Romney has done. He didn't do it because of any pressure from the liberals it is what the law requires. He is holding steady and NOT releasing any more than that. Liberals want him to release ten years. He won't. I can't figure out why you think that he has stumbled all over himself on this issue. As a matter of fact Harry Reid has backed off of the statements that he said earlier so it looks like the liberals are the ones that are stumbling all over themselves. Romney is ahead of Obama by huge margins and it will be a landslide for Romney. You're blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. See you in November.
