Rachel Maddow talks about Mitt Romney's vague responses when asked about his taxes throughout the years and questions how much of his current proposed tax plan would only help himself. James Roosevelt, Jr., the top lawyer for the Massachusetts Democratic Party when tax returns were a problem for Romney while running for governor, joins the discussion to explain how Romney tried to "retroactively rewrite history" about his tax returns ten years ago.

No way would I take the word of a vulture capitalist for anything. If Romney has a plan, let's see it. Then people can decide how to vote. Only an idiot would vote for him without having any idea on what he would do.

Did Maddow do this to Obama? Hell no...what a red herring.
    FYI
Mitt and Ann Romney have released their complete 2010 tax return and an estimate of their 2011 return. (A full copy of their final 2011 return will be made public as soon as it is filed in the upcoming weeks). The Romneys have provided extensive information about their personal finances, with several hundred pages of tax returns now made public.

First, as a successful businessman, Governor Romney has not only added value to our economy through his investment and business activity, but he has paid millions in taxes every year to the U.S. government.

Second, the Romneys take to heart “to whom much is given, of him shall much be required.” Accordingly, they have been extraordinarily generous in their charitable giving, donating over $7 million from 2010-2011 – donating even more to charity than they paid in taxes.

Third, Mitt Romney has scrupulously complied with the U.S. tax code, and his income is reported and taxed at the applicable rates, and he has paid 100 percent of what he has owed.

As the law does not require the release of any tax returns, the release of these 500+ pages of tax returns goes above and beyond what is required.

As the law does not require the release of any tax returns, the release of these 500+ pages of tax returns goes above and beyond what is required.

In addition, Gov. Romney has released numerous financial disclosures since 2002, as required by law – which have also been posted on this site. There are 3 federal Public Financial Disclosures (from 2007, 2011, and 2012), and 6 Massachusetts Statements of Financial Interests (from 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007).

With a decade's worth of financial disclosure documents and the Romneys' recent tax returns, the American people have an extensive view of the Governor's personal finances, above and beyond what is required by the law.

Nancy Pelosi recently said that there has been too much time spent talking about tax returns instead of the economy. We don’t agree with her on very much, but she’s right about that.

It's time to focus on the real issues in this campaign – turning around the economy and getting America back to work again.

Its all there for anyone who wants to go look at it! Madcow lies again.

...2010-2011? Ooooh. Obama released his last 12 years. Nobody is denying Romney released last year's taxes. Sure the Law doesn't "require it" nor was Obama required to release his long form birth certificate. So what? There's still the question of why is Romney not releasing his prior tax returns! "He's not required by law" isn't good enough.

you said..Nobody is denying Romney released last year's taxes.
yea they are...they want us to believe he hasn't released his taxes for the past 10 years.

Well, it has to be good enough because it isn't required. He will when he is formally announced as the Repub candidate.

You mean after the convention? That's fair enough I guess. Maybe he and his lawyers and accountants can doctor them enough by then. The point is his whole campaign is based on 1 thing: He's good at business. Well let's see his business. The media put Obama's life (and everyone he's ever said "hi" to) under a microsocpe, but Romney is much more of a mystery. Where are the videos of HIS elders at his church running loops over and over? News was the Revrend Wright Show for like 3 months straight when Obama was running.

I don't think hes' particularly good at business he's good at having a really rich dad with lots of great contacts and lots of capital. Without that he'd be a used car salesman.

see...there ya go...thats the point...even when he releases them, ppl like you will find fault and make unfounded accusations. you already believe he will have them doctored.

Oblahblah has been under a microscope? hahahaha...we don't even know what he wrote his college thesis on. gimme a break.
