Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney tells NewsmaxTV that the Supreme Court ruling has given Americans clarity in his race against Obama and will give voters more reason to embrace him.
While expressing dismay at the court’s ruling, he argues the American people have consistently rejected the Obamacare plan and predicts they will do so again in November.
In an exclusive sit down with Newsmax today, the former Massachusetts Governor said, “The Obamacare ruling makes the urgency of replacing president Obama even more clear in the minds of American voters.”
“Obamacare is not good law, it’s not good policy. The American people didn’t want it in 2010. That’s one of the reasons we picked up so many seats in the House and Senate, and I think in the election this November people who know they don’t want Obamacare will have to vote out President Obama, and that’s a plus for me.”
The high court’s decision gives Americans a “very clear reason for people to go to the polls,” said Romney.
Americans “don’t want to see $500 billion in new taxes,” the presidential candidate said. “They don’t want to see a $500 billion cut to Medicare. They don’t want to see what the CBO [Congressional Budget Office] said.”
“Because of the [Obama] healthcare law, up to 20 million people could lose the health insurance they currently have because they are dropped by their employer’s insurance plan,” Romney noted.
Americans “don’t want to see greater deficits passed on to our kids,” Romney said. “These things are all part of the Obamacare story, and I think that’s one of the reasons we’ll get more energy and passion in this election, more urgency in this election to replace the president than might have occurred had the bill been struck down.”
When he met with Newsmax, Romney was in New York for campaign appearances and a high dollar fundraiser Thursday night that featured billionaire Donald Trump.
Newsmax asked Romney a series of questions that will be featured in its September Newsmax Magazine cover story, including his take on the key media outlets he turns to for news.
“You know, increasingly, I’m getting news from electronic sources, whether Newsmax, Drudge, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal Online, even USA Today online, Fox online, CNN online,” Romney said.
He added that while he receives “a lot of information online, nonetheless I still appreciate the feel of paper in my hands.”
“I’m old-fashioned enough to still want to look at a magazine, like Newsmax,” he continued.
He didn’t have high praise for the nation’s two leading newsweeklies, however.
“I’m afraid Newsweek and Time have fallen off my shelf, they’re not what they used to be in terms of my interest, but I still read The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times in paper version if it’s available,” he said.
