The Hill's Karen Finney and the Washington Post's Jonathan Capehart debate whether Mitt Romney is playing dog whistle politics with attacks on welfare and "jokes" about President Obama's birth certificate ahead of his big rollout at the GOP convention.

Excellent piece! Thanks for posting. Bottom line for this country, in my opinion, is that Obama is like Ruby Bridges:

Ruby Bridges Hall In November 1960, six-year-old Ruby Bridges Hall became the first African American child to desegregate an elementary school. Although she only lived a few blocks from the William Frantz Elementary school in New Orleans, Louisiana. Marshals had to escort Ruby because of angry segregationist mobs that gathered in front of the school. For an entire year, she was the only student in her class since white parents pulled their children from the school in protest. She wrote about her experiences in her book THROUGH MY EYES.

And Conservative America is like that mob outside of that school. Angry, afraid that if anything is different, they will lose and somehow come out the worse for it. So they act in mob mentality and protection mode so that they can stay safe, they think. So they abuse Obama/Ruby, and they don't hear ANYTHING other than the sound of their own voices. That fear makes them super easy for the wealthy to continue to manipulate, like Romney, even though they talk really stupid, and most of what they say is in total opposition to the best interest of that white mob. But the problem is, for the neocons, that God has stepped in on this one. Romney will self destruct so much by the election, there will be no possible way for him to win. And if all those religious right folks who talk about God, would just pay attention to their own rhetoric, they would know that "bringing a great storm" at the beginning of their convention is a sign of change of BIBLICAL proportions! Get the message folks! God's got this. Things will change, like it or not!

Here is the corner they've painted themselves into: In order to win the nomination, a Republican candidate has to say and do a lot of really stupid things. That's been the case for the last half century. The problem is the fact that the party has become so extreme during that period, once nominated, the candidate no longer has the luxury (as he once had) of veering back toward the center during the general election - or even the center-right for that matter. If he does, he looses the base. If he doesn't he's lost damned-near everyone else. The "party of Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln" has become, I believe, virtually unelectable. Isn't life beautiful?

He's got 0 percent of the African American vote so why not try to get all the White votes he can get by playing the race card. He tells the lie about Welfare when he knows it has been debunked by every newspaper and Fact check and even Republicans like Joe Scarbrough, but he keeps saying it so Whites can think Blacks are getting something for nothing. The real fact is there are more Whites on Welfare than Blacks. But if you repeat a lie enough people will start believing it.

I always felt that Obama would make a good President but I wanted Hillary to win because I felt that if Obama won nothing would get done, because a lot of people in Washington would not want this President to be successful, regardless of how it would effect this Country. " WE'RE GONNA TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY " What a stupid statement

Oh yeah he sure is. It's obvious. First on the birth certificate, if you heard it, when he mentioned the birth certificate at the last part of his speech, it didn't fit in with his speech. He made it a point for the birthers!!!

On the 2nd one about Obama's welfare policy, he mentions giving checks out for welfare without work. This is a dog whistle for the racist crowd, who always complains that minorities are lazy and expect checks for doing nothing. Of course these racist nit wits are to stupid to know a majority of welfare recipients are white. But the whole thing is a fat lie. Obama isn't taking the work requirement out of welfare. He's giving the state government more choice on the work part of welfare. This is the same thing that Romney asked for when he was governor. In fact most of the Republican governors asked for this policy. So the whole evil Republican party are not only liars, but hypocrites.

You OBVIOUSLY didn't hear Mitt's speech. I watched it on CSPAN and his joke about the birth certificate was at the BEGINNING of his speech....I'd say within the first few sentences of the speech.

No I listened to the speech several times, and it came at the end of his introduction of where he was born. It sounded like he adlibed it at the last second.

I don't think he truly understands the underlying race issues that his campaign has, same as he doesn't see the gendered issues, or the class, Medicare/ACA, or any of the other issues people have brought up. None of it has or will ever be likely to personally affect him and he just doesn't seem to be able to see very far past his own personal bubble.

That in and of it's self doesn't make him a bad man, simply human with the wrong qualifications for public office.

Of course he is. He has to since he has to get 61% of the white vote. Remember that half that would be women? This is why Boehner said that he wanted the Latinos and the African-Americans to stay home on election day because he wants to keep his job.

I'm trying hard to find that quote of Boehner's you mention here, but it still eludes me. Can you give me a reference video on YouTube, or a place to hear the sound bite so I can hear Mr. Boehner say this himself before I just take your word for it? Anything that would have him saying these things so you can prove his intent? Or is this just another statement 'taken out of context' by the Left, and then misinterpreted like the explanation that the Left is giving for what Ryan said about "the method of conception not defining life'? And it comes out twisted by the :Left into "rape is just another method of conception". Anyone with a brain would know that the METHOD of conception has no bearing on whether a life is begun or if it hasn't, but it is the ACT of conception itself that determines life. Or in other words, it is when the sperm reaches the egg and begins the fertilization process which defines life, NOT the method. The sperm can be placed by artificial insemination without even having sex with another person, and when the sperm fertilizes the egg, THAT defines life, not the fact that the METHOD was done by artificial means or not. Now, please tell me where I can hear Boehner telling Latinos and African-Americans to stay home on election day!!!!!! I'll bet he never said...

Take a look at who is reporting this segment you posted above - MSNBC. They are biased toward the Left, and do not give the GOP and even break at any time. But, that's their job, isn't it? If they were to report on me saying that the sky wasn't really blue, but that it only appeared blue, and they found out that I was a Conservative, they would give the report that I have lost my mind and said that the sky wasn't really blue - leaving off the part of the statement that the sky only 'appears to be blue' so that I would look like a total idiot. The fact is, the sky is not colored, dyed, or painted blue, it only appears to be, but that wouldn't matter to MSNBC when a Conservative makes a statement. Now, if a Liberal had made the same statement, they would back him 100%, and would make sure to clarify the last part of the statement which justifies the first part. That is just the way the media is today. They've sold out to the Left to protect them at all costs, and don't even care about the truth anymore.

First - you're posting is so disconnected that it becomes a rant.

Second - Bhoeher DID make those comments - so grow up! here's a link:
    http://www.theatlanticwire.co...

Third - give up your metaphors and stick to simple facts on the issue of abortion and Ryan - he is NOT in favor of rape victims or incest victims being permitted to seek abortions for the child that was FORCED upon them with violence and hatred. Hide behind "Life begins at conception - and Life is Life!"

Do you think that your daughter's rapist should become a father? I think he should be castrated and imprisoned - and your daughter should have the RIGHT to NOT bear his child. You, however, think your daughter should be FORCED to give birth. Strange, you don't mention if you want your daughter to RAISE your blessed grandchild . . . why not, Grandpa?
