Romney gave 23 years of tax returns to John McCain in 2008, when he was being considered as a running mate. Why all the secrecy now?

Why do you think John McCain picked sweet Sara? After looking at those tax returns, Mitt would be a major liability.

I have no idea. I care less about what he's earned as compared to where he stands on important issues.

His taxes would show his lies about his involvement in Bain from 1999 to 2003, and his voter fraud in Massachusetts. He will stonewall on his taxes right through the election. Releasing them would be suicide, so he'll just try to bluff.

Yup, and as they screw Obama they screw America. They're suppressing the vote, so everyone should try their best to vote to get them out.

I'm not sure. However, the questions, from what I understand, would be his returns from 2009? The other tax returns, those given to Senator McCain, would be necessary for comparative purposes. It seems to me that whatever "numbers crunching" that may have been done and questionable would be revealed in his 2009 returns. I believe his 2010 and 2011 have been released? If not, please correct me. His 2009 seem to have landed in limbo, somewhere, and that year would be the year he'd be hiding something - if he is.

I had forgotten about the voter fraud, but it's all suspicious to me as to why he won't show his taxes in the tradition started by his father. He's known for a while the people asked for it, what's holding him up?

He is bright enough to see the damage he is doing to his campaign. There are a whole lot of prominent Republicans telling him he needs to disclose and put an end to this. Yet he would rather let the damage go on, because what he is hiding is worse.

Well obviously John McCain had a problem with them, Palin was a better choice and he has 7 more years to account for that might present serious issues. I'm still wondering how he managed to get $101.4M into a 401K, the maximum contribution limit is like $6,000/year.

I think the max limit is $30K in his cases into his IRA (he didn't have a 401K). Even at $30K a year he could not have amassed $101.4M. Something's stinky. If Palin was a better choice, that is a sad statement about Romney.

Because ever since Mitt's dad started the tradition in 1968, every candidate has disclosed several years of tax returns. Mitt's dad was asked for a single return, but turned over 12 years of returns. As his biographer explained "Release of (one) document, while it might serve a political purpose, would not prove very much, he argued. One year could be a fluke, perhaps done for show, and what mattered in personal finance was how a man conducted himself over the long haul."

What secrecy - it is no one's business other than IRS and they are fine with his returns - he has given 2010 and will give 2011 - Here let me help: Romney is rich! Gasp! Yes, it is true.

Now can we move on to something important like 41 months of unemployment over 8% or maybe something minor like our $16 trillion in debt and an idiot in the WH who has no clue how the nation works. I know that pouring over someone else's tax return is rather like spending time in your neighbors underwear drawer and a big thrill but in the grand scheme of things it is not even on the radar of important things to the country.

Actually it was more the democrats penchant for 'doing good' that tied the anchor to the economy and the republicans that went along with them. Social engineering via housing and the rest of the economy was idiocy. Couple that with the stupid belief that all had learned their lessons about investments and lending during the depression, and nullifying the Glass Stegall Act in 1999 (republicans and democrats, signed by Clinton), both took us down the path to recession. Few people learn a damn thing from the past and with money on the table, it was inevitable that we would not only over extend but would take a dive. It is comfortable to blame one political group, or bankers, or lenders, or investors but it is not that simple - we did it, we wanted the homes we could not afford, we wanted to use charge cards out the wazoo, we wanted 30K cars and we did not care until we had only limited leverage left and, like that kids game where music plays and kids sit in fewer and fewer chairs, we did not care until we didn't get a chair. Everyone was doing the Snoopy dance as the market rose to about 14K and, when it took its inevitable slide, we chose to blame anyone and everyone other than ourselves.

Everyone was doing the Snoopy dance as the market rose to about 14K and, when it took its inevitable slide, we chose to blame anyone and everyone other than ourselves.

We have a recession roughly every 10 years and pull out relatively quickly. This is the slowest recovery since WWII and that actually is due to the policies of this administration that is truly the Gang who cannot shoot straight. The stimulus might have done it if it had been tied to massive cuts in spending (as Canada did for example) - but nooo, we had to have that ridiculous and bad Obamacare bill that should pretty well sink us completely in the next few years. 21 new taxes in the bill aimed at the middle and lower income brackets laced into a bill that does nothing for health care at all other than drive the costs through the roof. It will cause us to hit the skids again but shorter than 10 years.

The answer, that every person in this nation knows, is that we cannot spend more than we take in. We take in 2.9 Trillion every year - income taxes from only 52-53% of the working population with the top 6% of earners paying 65% of all income taxes paid. It seems we should be able to manage just fine on that - we are on a collision course with complete collapse and this administration is greasing the wheels with outrageous promises of more and more that we cannot afford and cannot pay for - logic should tell us all that it cannot continue.

Well, sorry, did not mean to write a small book. Have a good day

Class warfare is the Republican economic policies that have destroyed the middle class. It was not intended as warfare, but it has had that result. Why is it "warfare" to try to reverse the tide?
