Romney campaign calls Dem challenge to Ohio voter law ‘despicable’
By Cameron Joseph -

Mitt Romney's campaign is mounting pressure on an Obama campaign lawsuit challenging Ohio's early voter laws, claiming it unfairly targets military personnel.

Romney's campaign released a statement Sunday afternoon from Romney General Council Katie Biber that accuses Obama of trying to limit voting rights for those in the military.

"In their lawsuit, the Obama campaign and the [Democratic National Committee] argue it is 'arbitrary' and unconstitutional to provide three extra days of early, in-person voting to military voters and their families," Biberwrites. "We disagree with the basic premise that it is 'arbitrary' and unconstitutional to give three extra days of in-person early voting to military voters and their families, and believe it is a dangerous and offensive argument for President Obama and the DNC to make.

It is not only constitutional, but commendable that the Ohio legislature granted military voters and their families this accommodation. It is despicable for the Obama campaign to challenge Ohio's lawful decision," she added.

Earlier this week the Obama campaign and Democratic National Committee (DNC) filed a lawsuit to block a new Ohio state law which would allow men and women in uniform to vote up until the Monday right before an election, while the cutoff on early voting for the rest of the public is three days earlier.

Democrats say they want all voters to enjoy the extended early-voting period, and not just those in the military.

Romney’s campaign says the lawsuit unfairly targets active duty voters and the presumptive GOP nominee attacked the lawsuit in a Facebook post on Saturday, calling it an "outrage."

But the optics may be damaging to the Obama campaign. Biber's statement highlights that a number of nonpartisan military groups intend to fight the Obama campaign on the case.

"Last week, respected military groups intervened in the Obama campaign's lawsuit. They argue that it is absolutely constitutional to give military voters special flexibility in voting, and that it is offensive for the Commander-in-Chief's political campaign to argue otherwise. They correctly point out that there is good reason to grant military voters special flexibility; members of the military — including those stationed here within the United States — are subject to restrictions, uncertainties, and risks that often make it more difficult for them to vote. We agree with these military groups."

Obama's campaign has pushed back hard against Romney's characterization of the issue, accusing him of "false and misleading" comments.

"What that lawsuit calls for is not to deprive the military of the right to vote on the final weekend of the campaign," Obama senior adviser David Axelrod said on Fox News Sunday. "Of course they should have that right. What the suit is about is whether the rest of Ohio should have the same right. And I think it's shameful that Gov. Romney would hide behind our servicemen and women to try and win a lawsuit to deprive other Ohioans of the right to vote."

Both Obama and Romney have targeted military voters, who could play a key role in many swing states including Florida, Virginia and North Carolina.

IF the vote in Ohio is close, might obama order military to a emergency move out of the area so that they're expected voting on Tuesday might be jeopardized? Don't put anything beyond obama!

Read the law suit. They want everybody to have the opportunity to vote up to the Day Before the election They are not decreasing the time that Military can vote they just want to let Non Military citizens the same time as the Military Please before you post a question know the facts.
The GOP legislture changed the law in an attempt to aid the GOP candidate

Which is just another way to rig the election. I know the facts and the only fact that matters is that Obama is trying to stop the military from voting. Just as much as his administration is trying to keep alive the ability of those that are not registered legally the chance to vote.

read the law suir as it now stands in state military personal and their family can vote on SAT SUN AND THE MONDAY before the election. The Early voting for the Public ends at 5 PM on Friday. All the suit asks if that the Public be able to vote on Sat Sun and Mon This is just another attempt by the GOP to fix the election at tradition with the GOP since Watergate

Military employees do not have the luxury of knowing they will be in a location for voting on any Tuesday election! At a moment’s notice, they could be sent off at the Presidents' order to a new duty station and not be able to make it to the polling place on Election Day!

Would President obama issue such orders to the overwhelmingly "conservative" military voter should he wish to prevent them from voting? LOL

I was in the Navy, aboard the USS Independence operating on "sea trials" coming out of Portsmouth Navy Yard when the Seven Day war started! When started steaming toward Isreal rather than coming back to Norfolk!

My apologies, for I was on BOTH the Forrestal and the Independence! My experience on the Forrestal was when she was dry docked for routine repairs, then had a major fire set by a seaman who did not want to go overseas! I was then transferred to the Indepence! We were on Liberty call in Athens and it was the Yom Kipper war. I will always remember the ship's horn blowing a constant call for all sailors to come back to the ship. All liberty was cancelled and many had to be flown in by chopper because of the rush to get out to sea. Athens was one of the only ports I remember where we could tie up to a dock large enough to meet the needs of a 1,000 foot long carrier! It was the sea trials on the Forrestal where we were concerned about having to go straight into battle, not the Independence!

    Despicable.

Obama wants voting without ID to increase fraud voting.

This move is to suppress voting that would weigh heavily against him.

Every presidential race for the last three terms, has involved not sending military officers thier voting ballots on time so that they could return them on time, not counting votes because addresses did not match when they were serving overseas in war zones, so called other imperfections that disqualified thier votes, and a general wish to disregard military votes. However, every effort is made to count a vote from someone that has no ID and can not make an effort to get one for 4 years so they can vote in the presidential race. And a provisional ballot is not good enough for these people, but sc---- the military vote. Where are the lefts priorities? They only want votes they know will be for thier side.
