Romney Announces Paul Ryan as His VP Pick: Will He Be Able to Win With This Ticket?

Early Saturday morning, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney announced that he had chosen Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate for the 2012 presidential election.

42-year-old Ryan, is considered a rising GOP star and the party’s leader on fiscal and budgetary issues. Ryan is chairman of the House Budget Committee and the architect of the House GOP’s budget proposal, and his selection as Romney’s vice-presidential pick ensures that the economy will be the defining issue of the election.

Ryan’s place on the ticket is sure to appease the party’s conservative wing, which has never fully warmed to the more moderate Romney. In Ryan, they find a like-minded ally who supports dramatic policy solutions to the U.S.’s fiscal woes. Ryan, who is an energetic debater, will bring youthful vigor to the campaign and will help Romney in Wisconsin and across the Midwest.

However, Ryan also comes with some downsides. Thus far, Romney’s campaign has been geared toward making the election a referendum on the president. Now, Romney is tied to a very specific budget plan that has a name and a face and has been widely criticized by Obama and his fellow democrats. In an April speech, Obama called Ryan’s budget plan a "thinly veiled social Darwinism." Romney’s choice in Ryan will certainly energize the GOP base, but it will also energize Democrats who do not want to see “the end of Medicare as we know it.”

So SodaHeads, what do you think about Romney’s selection of Paul Ryan as his running mate? Will he be able to win with this ticket?

Romney Ryan

    "Social Darwinism", exactly.

BTW, I just heard that, if elected, Romney will move the capital to the Cayman Islands.

Regardless of ones' political opinions, there are political realities which are lining up against Romney. Ryan's presence on the ticket likely costs Romney Florida, as most seniors and soon-to-be seniors despise Ryan's attack on their Medicare. The effect of Ryan, combined with the influx of Hispanics in key swing states has probably cost Romney the election.

Grayson lost, but this is irrelevant to the presidential election; the 2010 election was a flash in the pan win for the Republicans and largely due to widespread liberal demobilization (Obama isn't left wing enough). Romney's polling in Florida is low and falling.

Even if you would like to look at Florida political results, such as Grayson's, I suggest that you look up the approval rate of Gov. Rick Scott.

The majority are tired of the deficit and irresponsible spending like the 19 taxpayer funded "green" bankruptcies along with 0WEbama sending "stimulus" dollars overseas. 0WEbama and his cronies are running the country into the ground and the majority of people are fed up, you of course will not agree but borrowing $40.00 of every $1.00 with this economically inept administration is pure insanity. 0WEbama will be the first pResident in U.S. HISTORY to never have a budget in his term as REQUIRED BY LAW. Its time someone who knows what they are doing to be president. 0WEbama had his chance and all he did was LIE the entire time. I could present his LIES to you and every single one of them are VERIFIED but that will not mean anything to you anyway.

    1) Why is it that the deficit is only a problem when a democrat is in power? Since Reagan, Republican presidents have exploded the deficit and have never actually balanced the budget (the last Republican to balance the budget was Eisenhower).

    2) The country was run into the ground by Bush's wars, tax cuts, and financial deregulation (although Clinton has some blame for the deregulation), and the largest criticism on Obama is that he hasn't picked up the pieces as fast as possible.

    3) I don't know whether or not you know this, but simply stating that somebody that you don't like lies does not alter the facts so that they are actually a liar. Obama has broken some campaign promises, particularly the one about holding the banks accountable, but this is nothing new. Obama is no more a liar than any Democrat, and far less than most Republicans.

    1) 0WEbama campaigned on cutting the deficit in HALF he has FAILED miserably and he spent over a TRILLION DOLLARS a year every single year he has been in office.....FAILURE.

    2) Bushes wars? We were attacked on 9/11 seems you are one of those who have forgotten. with Iraq he had FULL SUPPORT except for a handful of democrats. I can provide you a list of the democrats who voted if need be. 0WEbama hasn't picked up the pieces you are correct he ground them into sand. Ever notice the states that are running a budget surplus? They are DRILLING STATES. 0WEbama said he was going to have the "ALL OF ABOVE" when it comes to energy production.....A LIE. All he cared about was paying back his campaign bundlers that owned solar panel companies. The count of taxpayers dollars is $10 BILLION DOLLARS and 19 BANKRUPTCIES. 0WEbama is a economic disaster and there is no excuse you can possibly make because it is FACT.

    3) Its not that i don't like 0WEbama I don't like his disastrous policies. Arming the Mexican drug cartels is another issue of his ineptness as the supposed leader of the country. Yea Yea you will automaticly point your finger at Bush but the big different between 0WEbamas FAST and FURIOUS and Bushes GUNWALKER is the Mexican government was involved and EVERY SINGLE FIREARM had a tracker chip in the stock.

0WEbama is a PROVEN LIAR and you have the balls to defend him.

    1) In a recession, you need to spend at much higher levels, lest you throw the country into a death spiral. Where there is a deficit in private sector demand, the public sector must take up the slack and invest in order to sustain the economy. Cutting government spending during a severe recession is what Hoover did, and we all know how that worked out.

    2) People supported Iraq because Bush and his flunkies gave them lies to support the war. As it was Bush's lies which brought about Iraq, it is very much deserved to to call it Bush's war.

    3) The Fast and Furious gun sting was a result of lax gun policies. The Obama DOJ tried to stop the distribution of guns to known straw-buyers, yet state gun laws prevented them from doing it. While they couldn't stop the guns from being sold, they tried to track them. This is a manufactured scandal and does not reflect on Obama in the slightest. That said, whatever happened to your support of gun-rights? I though that you would be okay with guns being available to anybody.

    4) Please give me an example of Obama lying (and not one merely concocted by the people at Fox News).

My defense of Obama is less to do with balls and more to do with my having an understanding of the facts.

PS. your use of the name OWEbama is amusing (if inaccurate) once; after the tenth time, it merely makes you seem childish to any serious debater.

    2) Bush derangement syndrome is what you suffer from.

Heres the video showing DEMOCRATS BEATING THE IRAQ WAR DRUMs all the way back to 1997

    3) If FAST and FURIOUS reflects in no way on 0WEbama there would be no need for 0WEbama to wave the EXECUTIVE PRIVLAGE wand and Eric Holder would not be facing CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS charges.

    4) Heres your example.....THE MOST TRANSPARENT ADMINISTRATION IN HISTORY.....See item #3 along with these LIES in HIS OWN WORDS,

You OBVIOUSLY do not understand ANYTHING.

PS he will be known as 0WEbama through out history because he spent 6 TRILLION DOLLARS in 4 years and the economy still sucks because of his ineptness. The EU is collapsing and the EURO is still worth more than the dollar, That says much about 0WEbamas economic disaster of a pResidency.

I hope so... Romneys campaign is about to face a new test, all the cash he collected in Israel, that was (allegedly) used in his campaign, amounts to illegal foreign campaign contributions. This is highly illegal and the story should be breaking any day now. Why is that good...? The only candidate left is Ron Paul. The one who couldn't make it.

Can we go back to 2008 and examine the Obummers campaign donations, donations that were at the time more money than any previous presidential candidate had ever raised. The DNC says it was because Obummer and his campaign cronies knew how to use the internet for $20 dollar contributions, Ha. Mathematic experts ran the possible numbers and said NO WAY could he have got that much from internet donations. Can we say Chicago political crooks get foreign contributions from the Middle East and the infamous George?

So genius, do you think the DNC will want to go down that road.

We're talking about Romney, and getting him out of the way of re-electing a president so powerful the people themselves have to concoct schemes to remove him from power. Obama is a frightening character if you like America, Romney can not stop him, Romney can not stop the people fueling Obamas powergrid because they fuel Romneys just the same. A vote for Romney is a Vote For Obama. Ron Paul out-classes both of them hands-down.

NO. Romney needs Florida. Paul Ryan wants to privatize Medicare as a gift to the Insurance Companies; all it takes is enough of the Seniors in Florida to say "wait a minute; privatize Medicare and Social Security? That I PAID into?", to shut Romney out of Florida.

If Huckabee had become VP, Romney would have added something to his campaign, but Ryan?

That's doubling own on a bad bet.

Obama is clearly ahead according to every poll.

I'm REALLY looking forward to the Debates. Paul Ryan is good at preaching to the choir, but he won't be able to convince anybody else.

Joe Biden has a lot going for him.

First, he can't tell a lie to save his life, because whatever he thinks comes right out his mouth !

Second, he's smarter than Paul Ryan.

I can prove this, because Paul Ryan believes in Supply Side Economics, and we have decades of proof that you need to be stupid to believe in THAT.

The only relief we've had in thirty years was Clinton balancing the Budget and reducing Military spending to Peacetime levels; chiefly by reversing 3% of Reagan's Supply Side tax cuts for the wealthy.

Put Bush II in Office and everything went to Hell.

Surplus, GONE. Supply Side tax cuts for the wealthy, BACK.

Balanced Budget, GONE. The size of the Military DOUBLED, and we wasted a Trillion or more dollars and 4,000 lives invading other countries.

This is just a History lesson. I am posting it to all regardless of party . It is history and nothing can change it.

The day the Democrats took over was NOT January 22nd 2009, it was actually January 3rd 2007, the day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate, at the very start of the 110th Congress.

The Democratic Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

For those who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is "Bush's Fault", think about this:
January 3rd, 2007, the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress:
The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77
The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%
    The Unemployment rate was 4.6%
George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB CREATION!

    Remember that day...
January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.
The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy?
    BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!
THANK YOU DEMOCRATS (especially Barney ) for taking us from 13,000 DOW, 3.5 GDP and 4.6% Unemployment...to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollar...

(BTW: Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie -starting in 2001 because it was financially risky for the US economy). Barney blocked it and called it a "Chicken Little Philosophy" (and the sky did fall!)
And who took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac? OBAMA
And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie?
OBAMA and the Democrat Congress, especially BARNEY!!!!

So when someone tries to blame Bush...
REMEMBER JANUARY 3rd, 2007.... THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!"
Bush may have been in the car but the Democrats were in charge of the gas pedal and steering wheel they were driving the economy into the ditch.
Budgets do not come from the White House.. They come from Congress and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party.
Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010 & 2011.

In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.

For 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budget.

And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009. Let's remember what the deficits looked like during that period:
If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.

If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.
In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is "I inherited a deficit that I voted for,
and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th."

Sooooooooooooo you get this trophy: Dass

Obama accomplished more of his campaign promises in the first two years than most Presidents do in eight.

I sometimes wonder why Republicans believe you should be able to shrug off a massive Market Crash in less than a year.

Reagan came in on a Recession and it was three years before we saw Recovery.

Remember him saying "Stay the Course" ?

Heck, go read his State of the Union speeches.

Reagan cut taxes on the Rich, raised taxes on everybody else, and the Market started accelerating.

Until the Stock Market Crash of 1987, that is. Oh, did you forget that? Google it.

Fortunately, the Federal Reserve acted quickly, or we would have plunged into another Recession.

We had a stable Economy from WWII to Reagan; but the laws passed to prevent profiteering were dismantled and repealed.

That's why we keep seeing this Bubbles and Crashes.

He changed his name when he believed it served him to do so. He is not a religious man, but he joined a Black Liberation Church to sell his bona fides to the black community in his early days in Chicago. He said that preacher Jeremiah Wright was like his father yet threw him under the bus when it became convenient (necessary). He claimed to have been born in Kenya in order to enhance book sales as a younger man. He likely lied on his applications to college to gain foreign student status. At the time, that category provided more favorable admission and funding treatment than afforded domestic blacks. The country's foreign policy is a growing embarrassment. America has alienated many of its allies. America and its enemies are not doing so well, either. We don't have a Cold War, although we don't need one with what is happening. Russia is not our ally. China is exerting its newly developed muscle. Iran openly mocks the president as it proceeds to nuclear weaponry. North Korea plays Lucy with the football, and Charlie Brown falls for the trick every time.
