Romney Announces Paul Ryan as His VP Pick: Will He Be Able to Win With This Ticket?

Early Saturday morning, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney announced that he had chosen Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate for the 2012 presidential election.

42-year-old Ryan, is considered a rising GOP star and the party’s leader on fiscal and budgetary issues. Ryan is chairman of the House Budget Committee and the architect of the House GOP’s budget proposal, and his selection as Romney’s vice-presidential pick ensures that the economy will be the defining issue of the election.

Ryan’s place on the ticket is sure to appease the party’s conservative wing, which has never fully warmed to the more moderate Romney. In Ryan, they find a like-minded ally who supports dramatic policy solutions to the U.S.’s fiscal woes. Ryan, who is an energetic debater, will bring youthful vigor to the campaign and will help Romney in Wisconsin and across the Midwest.

However, Ryan also comes with some downsides. Thus far, Romney’s campaign has been geared toward making the election a referendum on the president. Now, Romney is tied to a very specific budget plan that has a name and a face and has been widely criticized by Obama and his fellow democrats. In an April speech, Obama called Ryan’s budget plan a "thinly veiled social Darwinism." Romney’s choice in Ryan will certainly energize the GOP base, but it will also energize Democrats who do not want to see “the end of Medicare as we know it.”

So SodaHeads, what do you think about Romney’s selection of Paul Ryan as his running mate? Will he be able to win with this ticket?

Romney Ryan

    "Social Darwinism", exactly.

BTW, I just heard that, if elected, Romney will move the capital to the Cayman Islands.

We need someone with the knowhow of Ryan, someone willing to actually BALANCE things, something that Obama hasn't been able to do, clearly.

Absolutely!!! Ryan was an excellent choice, a true conservative who could prop up Romney's new found conservativeness. Ryan has already addressed many of our issues that needed addressing in Congress with his plan for a balanced budget a few years back which was voted down by Democrats and some dippy Republicans, as well. He has no baggage to speak of, he is a good Christian family man and is not afraid to wortk and face issues head on. And, the best is, in eight years, provided Romney is elected now and reelected to a second term, Ryan will be an excellent candidate for the next presidency.
I really think Ryan was the best choice. Congrat's to Romney for starting out right!!!

Maybe once and for all the GM subsidy can be explained to us all. Paul Ryan is the representative from Janesville, WI. Home of the recently closed GM assembly plant. He might also explain the Isuzu fiasco. I remember seeing hundreds of little white trucks manufactured for Isuzu sitting outside of the Janesville GM plant only to find out Isuzu didn't want them...Pretty good corporation to bail out-one that manufactures millions of dollars of trucks probably sold for pennies on the dollar after a major screw up.

The GM subsidy was simply a power play for obama. No one thought it would solve anything, not even Obama, but it looked good in the liberal media. GM and Solyndra...Obama's best efforts...

The typical response from them is what the guy below just said: "Scared?????? I'm laughing so hard, I might just pee myself!!!!"

Naturally, they pretend not to be scared. What else is left for them?
When Obama is gone on 20 January of 2013 they will have a lot of fun.

Ryan's tax plan recently polled exceptionally well across ideological lines. He is articulate, passionate (something The Romney Android hasn't yet been programmed to emulate) and generally GENUINELY "the smartest man in the room" (as opposed to the poseur, Obama, who can only mimic intelligence... poorly). I'd be more comfortable were he at the top of the ticket (he'd bury The Zero in debate, for example), but I'd be willing to wait until 2020 to vote for him for president.

Of course, anyone following the "news" via the Mass MEdia Podpeople Hivemind wouldn't know: Elements _have_ been voted on. The Dhimmicrappic-controlled Senate refuses to act. Ditto on deficit-reduction elements. BTW, ditto on passing a budget bill. Dhimmicraps have killed all the budget bills passed by the House since 2010. Before that? Dhimmicraps. 1200 days w/o a budget? Dhimmicrappic action killing bills designed to move toward balancing the budget.

They will need a good ad campaign to rebut the lies that Obama and his cohort have already been saying about Ryan's budget plan - e.g. it has no effect at all on those already on Medicare or over 55 years old, so the "he's going to throw granny off the cliff" ad is just one more abject lie of many that Obama and the lying Dems are telling. It is going to boil down to the question of whether we want to get the U.S. back on the road to financial stability, and sustainability or really go over the financial cliff with anothter four years of trillion-dollar annual deficits from Obama..

The contrast couldn't be more stark -- Barack Obama has been so financially irresponsible that he didn't get a single vote for the budgets he has proposed, not from the Republicans or the Democrats. Romney and Ryan, on the other hand, have a plan that will allow the private sector to create jobs and work towards a balanced budget.

They also need an ad campaign pointing the finger at the real culprits in the financial meltdown, which Obama constantly blames on Bush. It may be a hard sell, but a contrast between Bush warning of the housing crisis and trying to do something about it with Barney Frank saying "we don't need regulation of Fannie and Freddie for safety and security," and "I want to roll the dice," along with Maxine Waters saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it" should take a lot of hot air out of Obama's "blame Bush" campaign.
