Rodney King was found dead. Another liberal ICON has made it to the happy hunting grounds.

I'm willing to bet, that once the autopsy was made, they will find enough drugs on him, that if they cut him up, and distributed his parts to his friends, his friends will get just as high as RODNEY was.

What matters about Rodney King isn't that he used drugs or was a bad person. What matters is that officers of the law, people who we give power over ourselves to, beat an nonresistant man. What matters is his heartfelt plea "Can't we all just get along?".

He wasn't an icon because of who he was, but because what happened to him.

King wasn't a liberal icon, he was a victim of right-wing intolerance.

King was no more of a "liberal ICON" than O.J. Simpson or Zimmerman. The media need these people to sell the crap of advertisers, and to attract those who love violent stories. The films of cops beating King were not to be ignored, and in some way they probably were helpful to the RWNJs in Indiana who passed a law last week sponsored by the NRA to encourage people to shoot at police. All three of these are merely ICONS to violence, one with alcohol and drugs, another with egomania, a third with gross ignorance. Each in his own way is an example of the worst of what we have become.

All liberal icons seem to be losers. With the leftist losers who put them on pedestals, it appears all stupidheads think alike.

Stupid question, was his being beat by police not good enough? The racist author of this question must have been looking for a lynching?

There was a reason so many were shocked after seeing this video, and a reason why he won 3.8 million from the city. I do not care how mad you are at the guy, there was no call for this. At all. If 7 cops can think of no better way to subdue a single person than to beat him with batons and kick him, they should find a new job clubbing seals or something...

Attacking the victim's character is defensive childishness. He may have been a genuine ass, but it has no bearing on what happened here.

It is sad that some people turn themselves into junkies and/or users and abusers that are a burden to society. His dealers will miss him.

oh man, this is getting sad!! It's not like he portrayed himself as a hero, saint or considered himself a role model. He didn't even ASK for all of the attention he gathered. What is the point of spitting on him?

Just because they can and they don't seem to be winning at anything else. Small people have to spit on others to make themselves feel a little better.

So if he was 'nonresistant' why were the other 2 people in the car with him that night also not beaten? If King was as you said 'nonresistant' wouldn't it make sense for them to beat the other 2 people in the car who were also 'nonresistant? There were more than enough cops there to 'beat down' 3 people rather than just one.

King's death was a grim ending to a saga that began 21 years earlier he went for a drive with two friends, eventually leading authorities on a chase after he was spotted speeding. The 25-year-old, on parole from a robbery conviction had been drinking, which he later said led him to try to evade police.

I have no idea why he was chosen and the others weren't. Probably because he was driving.

And no, he wasn't a great man. But it wasn't his actions which mattered; it was the fact that the police, who we give huge power over our lives, acted like tyrants in his case.

Not only was he drunk, and wouldn't pull over, and mouthy, and resisting arrest, he also mooned one of the female officers. All in all, he was a jerk and got what he deserved. Screw him.

SOA, I don't even think dirty cops will beat people for no cause, and face trouble, maybe King mouthed off or whatever, but there were FOUR of them, I work psych and have subdued people with less force, so I KNOW all that was not necessary, they beat his ass like a runaway slave, after he was down they could have put cuffs on, but they were high off bloodlust and just wanted to beat whoever for whatever reason

I don't disagree...the cops nowadays are even worse but they should have been convicted like they were. They are swinging for the fences with most of those hits...usually one or 2 hits on a normal person would put them done and they'd stay down.. I believe he was on something when they pulled him over and after being beaten and hit dozens of times and tazed he was still able to move. Excessive is an understatement, but like you said he must have said something or maybe made a move (from their point) that looked threatening. As you said they don't beat people for no cause like the others in his car weren't beat....but i do believe they should have either been fired or otherwise drummed out of the force....we have no need for cops to be brutalizing anyone.

Sorry....those assclown cops, not realizing they were being videotaped and the resulting fixed trial is what caused trouble in L.A.
