Well that's what he did say. However that doesn't have anything to do with robots. I meant what would he say in relation to them. I doubt he'd be very keen.

My reply was meant to be humorous Lord clairemorris ( by the way it is an offence in the UK to take the title of a Lord and I know you are not in the UK) but anyway if by 2050 lifelike robots did exist, why would they be used as prostitutes who are here right now and will be in 2050.

As to marrying a robot, what would be the point? You would be able to buy one and own it outright, and who would want to grant that a robot could be an equal in any sort of relationship, it could only be a tool (like a vibrator) or a superior being (like the real thing).

I can only find one advantage in using a robot for sexual purposes A) it might get fewer headaches than the real thing and B) they can be switched off when they displease.

Of course I have no experience of such difficulties.

Well I imagine the primary advantage of a robot would be that it wouldn't say no. If you're unsuccessful with courting ladies, and can't control your urges, then I suppose it might come in handy. I don't have problems with either so it would be of little use for me.

Naturally, I harbour "aristocratic pretensions," as I choose to phrase it. I'll readily admit that I am certainly not an actual Lord, and I don't expect to addressed as one. It's just my trademark.

I don't have such problems either, but I think unless you are unlucky or careless, at least you will be around to see it for real.

Fortunately I will not.

If it ever happens, which I think it will in all probability become a must have gadget for those that do have such problems.

All people discriminate, male and female. There are several types of people that very seldom, if ever, would have relations with another person. I am sure that each of you have run across people that you thought to yourself, "Not with a ten foot pole..."

That shy, scrawny, pencil-necked geek with the coke-bottle glasses that is shunned and ignored because of his looks by the very same female that complains about males only being interested in her looks would be a customer. Unless that pencil-necked geek is a multimillionaire, he hasn't a chance with 99 percent of women, [which doesn't say much for females...]. Males are no different... there are geeky females that occupy the corners of society, never to be approached except to be sneered at.

Then there is the specter of taking control of sex out of the females hands. No longer will the male have to jump through hoops and tow some line to get 'flavors' from some female. Another loss for women in an area that has never been nor never will be equal.

Addendum... In a world where just a glance by a male towards a female becomes sexual harrassment, the sex robots would be a welcome addition...

As far as females being geeks, I can't see that that's nearly the problem for them as it is for geeky males attracting females. The two main fails with females are being physically unattractive and being difficult to get along with.

You make good points, but what if the robots could somewhat accurately emulate rape? Resist enough to satisfy the sick perversions you speak of? Of course after sex bots, fetsh bots are the next logical step. S&M Booths. FemDom bots. The revenue would be insane.

Sex bots that emulate rape would only add fuel to the fire. It food feed a perverse addiction even more, and validate what they're doing, further desensitizing them. Well let me put it to you this way. If you happen to be R2D2 and you are looking to get your jollies tonight, why should YOU be left out of the equation? Human can hire prostitutes, and in Columbia it is even legal, so why should R2D2 be discriminated against, other than some homocentric neanderthal whose malice is directed toward robots. I say this country was founded on the principle that all men and robots are created equal, and robots should enjoy the same freedoms and equal opportunity as the rest of us.

Somewhere in the middle. Besides there being no middle choice, my other problem with the way this question is formulated is that a machine cannot be a "prostitute."
