Republicans Outraged as America Ignores Their Sham Eric Holder Contempt Vote

ProudProgressive 2012/06/21 00:43:50
Republicans, it seems, never learn. Congressional Republicans have spent the last four years blocking and obstructing any proposed legislation that might have the slightest possibility of actually benefitting the American people in the pathetic hope that Americans will be stupid enough to blame President Obama for their deeds. But they've also worked overtime to rekindle the bygone days of the Clinton Administration, when investigation after investigation yielded absolutely no evidence of any wrongdoing and they were reduced to staging a sham impeachment over the fact that the President of the United States had a private relationship with a consenting adult.

The latest round in the Republican crusade to manufacture the faux crisis du jour has been Darrell Issa's obsessive pursuit of Eric Holder. Holder is the Attorney General, and it is true that the failed Fast and Furious operation did go horribly wrong under his watch. But Issa has long ago abandoned rationality in accusing Holder of wanting to give guns to our enemies and even to casting blame on him for the murder of Agent Terry. Lost in the hubbub, of course, is the fact that Fast and Furious was developed by the Bush Administration under the leadership of Alberto Gonzales, or that a dry run for Fast and Furious, called Wide Receiver, was run in 2006 with similar results, only to be covered up by the Bush Administration with efficiency that makes Eric Holder look like an amateur. To date nine people involved in Wide Receiver have been indicted. Funny how Darrell Issa hasn't called Alberto Gonzales to testify before his sham "investigation".

The good news, however, is that this time, even the Right Wing media isn't biting. Of course, the Fox Propaganda Network will undoubtedly label this the latest crime of the century, but despite the increasing conservative leanings of the mainstream media, this time it really seems like the Republican follies are being given the cold shoulder they have long deserved.

Republicans Outraged as America Ignores Their Sham Eric Holder Contempt Vote
By: Jason Easley
June 20, 2012

Republicans spent an entire day trying to get America interested in their sham Eric Holder scandal, and surprised no one by finding the AG in contempt.

By a vote of 23-17, the committee voted to send a contempt report to the full House. While that sounds like a big deal, it really isn't when you consider if Eric Holder is found in contempt by the House, the person who will determine if Holder gets prosecuted will be Eric Holder.

This was the Republicans next to last gasp attempt to try and drum up a scandal to attach to the Obama administration before the November election. The right wing media has been pushing Fast and Furious for years only to be met with a collective yawn by the American public.

The only scandal here is that so called fiscally conservative Republicans have no qualms about wasting taxpayer money on a fishing expedition which they hope will provide the evidence they need to defeat President Obama in November.

Attorney General Holder has earned the wrath of the right for his aggressive pursuit of stand your ground laws, and voter ID cases. AG Holder has been vigilant in his protection of voting rights, much to the dismay of Republicans.

The corrupt and smarmy Darrell Issa is engaging in election year politics at its dirtiest level. House Republicans knew that Obama would assert Executive Privilege over the emails that they want. (They knew this because George W. Bush did the same thing in 2001.) The truth is that the Republicans don't care about the facts surrounding Fast and Furious.

Republicans kept screaming to America about what a sad day for democracy this was, and they were right. It was sad that the majority on a committee would abuse their power in this way. It was sad that they thought the American people were so dumb as to fall for a contrived scandal like what the Republicans were pushing.

Even the media didn't bite on this one. Issa was probably hoping for wall to wall cable coverage, but his big moment wasn't even large enough to make it on to C-SPAN or C-SPAN 2. Issa's big score was shuttled off to C-SPAN 3, and the cable news networks gave the vote itself scant live coverage.

In short, even the media was bored by such overtly partisan hackery.

The whole thing was more predetermined than Wrestlemania. When Rep. Dennis Kucinich asked Chairman Issa if he was prepared to go to court to test the President's claim of Executive Privilege over the emails, which Republicans on the committee claimed were vital evidence, Issa's answer indicated that he was planning to find Holder in contempt without the evidence.

The House Oversight Committee found Holder in contempt without even seeing the evidence that they claimed was essential. That is how much of a rigged game this was.

The whole investigation has been nothing, but a giant political con. Republicans are desperate for a scandal to attach to Obama, but they have been so shallow and transparent in their tactics that everyone knows what they are up to.

It isn't working. No one cares, but Issa's political fishing trip will continue to waste taxpayer dollars until the November election.

Where there's smoke, there's fire. But the only smoke being generated here is coming from the tax dollars being burned by Issa and his desperate band of partisan hacks.

Explain to me how an Attorney General can testify how he only learned of "Fast and Furious" a "couple of weeks ago" and then irrefutible evidence comes out that he knew 10 months before?! Explain to me why a President who knew nothing about "Fast and Furious" suddenly knows enough to claim "Executive Privilege"?!

EVERYONE with a brain knows this Administration is not only stonewalling, but covering up a scandal more sinister than Watergate! Those who deny it are either fools or liars! Obama and Holder are finished!

Republicans use everything and anything in politics, even if it mean jeopardizing others lives. They don't care.
This story is similar to the one in the Bible. There was this man who owed another man a whole lot of money and was about to be thrown in jail. The man (debtor) who owed lots of money, begged the man (creditor) to whom he owed the money for mercy. The creditor had mercy on the debtor and forgive him. The man went away feeling happy. Next thing the same debtor that had just been forgiven went after another man that had owed him just a small amount of money.

The man that had owed just a little bit of money, begged forgiveness from the one that had just been forgiven by his creditor, The man refuse to forgive the man that owed him just a little bit of money and had the man thrown in jail. When the man (the first creditor) heard the news, he was so angry and went and look for the man that he has just forgiven a huge amount of money. He said to the man, "DIDN'T I FORGIVE THEE OF A HUGE DEBT?" So, why couldn't you have mercy on your fellow man that just owed you a small of amount of money. He then had the man that he had just forgiven, thrown in jail. My point is related to, "Nancy Pelosi Slams Contempt Vote: 'I Could Have Arrested Karl Rove But We Didn't'" Republicans always want somebody to forgive them of their evilness, yet want to hang somebody who is less evil than they!

Pelosi is in some other world - she could not have had Rove arrested for a damn thing, she is doing her standard lying once again. She compares the firing of at will employees to the murder of 1000's of Mexican citizens and the murder of two US agents - Jesus, she is brain dead

Apparently America now only consists of the OP.....who knew? What does that make the rest of us then? This is a major story...all networks are covering it....and Holder has been found in contempt. It'll take a lot more than a loaded biased source to change this one PP. America doesn't want excuses (yours included) - they want action.

Nice analogies....but crime is crime....and wearing a suit doesn't excuse you from it. Holder made his choices, and his actions, and now they are coming back to him. If he has nothing to fear he should just cooperate.

He has cooperated to the extent he believes is necessary and healthy for a politically motivated witch hunter dressed up as a Congressman. Issa has issued his "subpoenas" and "contempt citations" several times before, seeking attention to himself and his imagined "rights" to know what covert operations the Govy is engaged in. Connie Rice, Karl Rove, and Donald Rumsfeld all ignored him and his rantings, and the subpoenas and citations issued to them remain in a drawer somewhere in the Justice Department. This political ploy is going nowhere, and for good reasons that Issa and his political motivations would surely spread the covert operations to the media and result in the deaths of all in Mexico who were "in the loop" and working for the U.S.. Whether the trail of guns was a good of bad thing is not the question, of course, as the U,.S. sells and gives guns away by the millions every year. Some come back to bite us, as the millions that Ronald Reagan's Administration sold and gave to what is now the Taliban and our children face them every day, resulting in more than 8,000 deaths and 40,000 wounded. Good? Bad? Should we subpoena Reagan's staff again? Some things are best left to those who are in charge of the operations, for better or worse. What is done is done. It is tomorrow that is important.

Unfortunately he needs to cooperate to what the court wants, not what he wants. The court wants information, the court seeks justice, and holder is withholding it. It's embarrassing to the nation. None of this would have happened if he had complied in the first place. I appreciate the history lesson....but this is here and now...and we're at a precipice. If Holder wants to act corrupt and seem guilty he's going to get speared.....if he cooperates as he should have and as common sense would have dictated in the first place...he might get some glares....but he'll keep his job...

Eric Holder has in his desk the "Contempt Citations" and Subpoenas issued to Connie Rice and Donald Rumsfeld by Issa's Committee. I think it is normal procedure to serve these in the order of "first in first out", is it not? Maybe he will send a couple of "men in Black" for Connie and Donald, drag them back to face inquiries they refused just a

Make a blog and post the photos of 8,000 who died and 40,000 who were wounded in a similar program of covert operations. Reagan gave and sold millions of guns to Saddam Hussein which now arm the Taliban all over the world. Should we send a subpoena to
the White House for the papers that reveal the purposes of all that? How about the papers that created the WMDs? What happens in the basement of the House is best left there or all the bad guys will know how we are seeking to inflitrate their operations.

This year more than 200 police will die in the U.S. in the line of duty, and hundreds of our children in uniform will die in far off deserts. Why are you and other RWNJs making more of

This isn't a stunt ala Obama, this is serious legal stuff going on. Contempt of Congress could get Holder a prison term if they want to push it. All they want Holder to do is tell them how it is Holder could request several million dollars in funding from Nancy Pelosi and claim he never knew anything about it. The dude is lying straight in your face and you're more than happy to let him do it just because you're a Democrat. Sure, it's not the stuff of soap operas, but Holder is corrupt as hell and Obama needs to get him out of the picture if he wants to keep whining about "change we can believe in".

Eric Holder has been lying since this started. Now that there are people dead because of this operation. The claim was made that the President knew noting about "Fast and Furious" but now he is using executive privilege. Which implies that he had something to with the operation (otherwise executive privilege wouldn't be applicable.)

Bottom line: Eric Holder should be fired for incompetence (not knowing about this operation) or he should be imprisoned for authorizing it.
