Republicans Holding Nearly 3 Million Transportation Jobs Hostage For 6,000 Temporary Oil Jobs

ProudProgressive 2012/06/22 14:07:38

In the Republican Party's stated agenda of obstructing anything and everything that might improve our nation's economy, hostage taking has become a familiar ploy. They held millions of unemployed Americans hostage in order to force us to endure two additional years of billionaire welfare through the Bush tax cuts. They held our nation's debt hostage and forced the first lowering of our credit rating ever in order to protect tax breaks for private jet owners. And now they are holding 3 million American jobs hostage just so John Boehner's investments in Keystone will bring him a profit. This is partisan corruption at its worst, and I honestly don't think the American people have any remaining tolerance for these games when it is their own future that is at stake.

Republicans Holding Nearly 3 Million Transportation Jobs Hostage For 6,000 Temporary Oil Jobs
By Adam Peck
Jun 21, 2012

With as many as 2.9 million new and existing jobs on the line, House Republicans are refusing to pass a transportation reauthorization bill, even after the Senate’s version of the bill overwhelmingly passed through the upper chamber in a 74-22 bipartisan vote.

The deadline for new transportation funding is June 30, and if the calendar flips to July without a compromise, as many as 1.9 million workers could lose their jobs, at least temporarily. The Senate version of the bill, if adapted, would create an additional one million new jobs as well, according to Department of Transportation projections.

So why are House Republicans holding nearly three million jobs hostage? Because they want approval of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline to be included in the bill. This infographic gives a sense of the GOP’s priorities:

The State Department estimates that roughly 6,000 jobs would be created if the Keystone XL is approved, but as few as 20 of them will be permanent.

Jobs are not important to the GO_Pers except to keep it in the negative while President Obama is president. They prefer going forward with Keystone XL since it improves the bottom line of business without increase jobs much.

We know why this is happening, republicans know that jobs mean they lose. Unemployment was greater under Reagan but when he added enlisted military to the numbers unemployment went down and he was re-elected. Keeping Americans in employed will be their number one goal until the election. I wish Obama would Use Excutive privilege with this bill.

    It's obvious

1 Million new gubmint pensions and pork in an already bloated field that does NOTHING to improve the economy.

Keystone is all private money backed that wont cost taxpayers a dime.

And toss the lame excuse that the jobs would be temporary. Same thing with the Alaska pipeline and look what it has given us over the years.

How many clowns does it take to baby-sit solar panels and wind turbines after they are manufactured in China, shipped here and installed?

Craft another bill, and kill this one.

When one is working one is not a dependent. That's what "jobs" means. If you work for McDonald's does that make you McDonald's' "dependent"? We have hundreds of thousands of miles of highways that need maintenance and repair, thousands of bridges and tunnels, public buildings falling apart, etc. Our nation's infrastructure is in terrible shape right now, and addressing that while at the same time enabling 3 million more Americans to STOP needing government assistance instead becoming self sufficient is something that there is no rational argument against. I don't need to remind you that it was a similar approach that got us out of the Great Depression.

When the employees of private industry have their labor Seized by government to expand the government still further . That is the death spiral of a society

"3 million more Americans to STOP needing government assistance"
There is little difference to the victims of taxation as to paying welfare , food stamps or government employees or Michele Obama's vacations . The victims of the taxes have their money and labor taken from them by force.

It is like a giant leech claiming it doesn't matter if the blood flows through the victim or the leech it is all the same blood.

I present facts. If you want to ignore them you're free to do so. How do YOU justify blocking a bill that actually managed to get 74 votes in the most disfunctional Senate in over a century and that even Republicans agree would create a lot of jobs in order to force through a controversial project that would not provide significant benefit to this country? Is there really something WRONG with employing three million more Americans?

    I'm talking about YOU.

I am no fan of Republicans (or Democrats), but your crusade to cast them in a bad light, no matter what the situation; as I say, costs you all credibility.
No one will believe you, even if you're right, because you come off like a crazy guy standing on a corner screaming at cars.
