Rep. Steve King Says He’s Never Heard Of Children Getting Pregnant Through Rape

JaguarSocialist 2012/08/22 17:52:50
The GOPers are, daily, proving they don't give a damn about women, and they're trivializing rape. Akin isn't alone in having stupid beliefs about rape. Paul Ryan shares Akin's views on rape and co-sponsored legislation that attempted to redefine rape.

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/08/21/rep-steve-king-says-h...

Apparently it’s not enough that a Republican is claiming that women can’t get pregnant through rape, another GOP congressman is now claiming that little girls who are raped can’t get pregnant either. Rep. Steve King of Iowa seemed to be making that claim during an interview on KMEG-TV.

According to TPM, a reporter asked King about his support of H.R. 3, which would have classified rape as only a forcible act, and asked if little girls who get pregnant through rape should be forced to carry the pregnancy to term. King unbelievably replied that he’s never heard of any instance of a child rape victim becoming pregnant.

However, you can bet if King had a 12-year-old daughter and she was raped by an undocumented immigrant or an African American, King would have her at an abortion clinic in a heartbeat.

You!

It's scary to think that this guy is a Congressman. What an idiotic comment. But we all know there's a war on women's health issues coming from the GOP, and this just proves it again.

This is the new Republican Party.... obsessed with the mysterious world of lady parts and determined to visit there often to make sure all those sluts behave.

The Republican House has been very busy. The third bill that Republicans introduced in the 112th Congress, House Resolution 3,echoes what Akin said. HR 3 eliminated longstanding Medicaid funding for abortion for poor women in the case of rape and incest — and also attempted to redefine rape by limiting federal assistance to instances of "forcible rape." Paul Ryan co sponsored that bill but now has no idea what constitutes ' forcible rape' . He drew a blank when asked.

So, some women might get some assistance, say a congressman's daughter. You ghetto girls... forget it. And you lesbians.. Barharharhar ! No way ! By the new Republican congressional standards, some women deserve help, others don't. It's all kind of confusing "down there." But they are watching you women. You betcha!

I love the line "obsessed with the mysterious world of lady parts..." The Teapublicandungbaggers are working overtime to distance Paul Ryan if the fact he co-sponsored Akin's bill and Ryan also opposes access to common forms of birth control. Teapublicandungbaggers know Ryan is an extremist.

Hell, if I had known the wife came with a built in circuit breaker, we could have saved a boat load of money on birth control. Why didn't Akin/Ryan/ King clue us guys in before?

This must be some type of "secret" Teapublicandungbagger know-how.

Teapublicandungbaggers are clueless about women, and they've gone to the extreme. Rape is rape. It doesn't matter if the woman was "forced" at knife point or drugged and then raped. It's still rape. However, the real effort from Teapublicandungbaggers is to undermine the rights of women in the judicial/legal process and on the medical front as well.

I doubt any GOPer who shares Akin's beliefs, including Paul Ryan, cares much for facts.
  • Tastentier JaguarS... 2012/08/22 18:17:46

I think there are certain facts they do care about. There are very uncomfortable facts on both sides of this issue, and I happen to care about all of them. Facts such as measurable brain waves of a 6-week-old embryo, or the fact that embryos start to coo between the 6th and 8th week, which shows that the developing limbic system already processes emotions such as contentedness. Probably fear too. And panic. And excrutiating pain when the little body is torn apart.

It's a very difficult topic and the facts only make it more difficult. I think there has to be a semi-ethical middle ground somewhere. Semi-ethical because we will never find a truly ethical solution. Both a complete ban and a Canadian no-limitations solution are horribly wrong and morally indefensible, imho.

You claim to cite "facts" but don't post any sources for those alleged "facts." I have no problem with a person who is opposed to abortion based on moral reasons; however, you can't force your religious beliefs on all women. Abortion is legal and a constitutional right. Personally, I support abortion in cases of rape, incest and the life of the mother being in danger.

The information that embryos produce cooing noises as early as 6 weeks after fertilization can be found in Rachel E. Stark's publication "Stages of speech development in the first year of life". The onset of neural electrical activity at 6 weeks after conception is mentioned in "Early patterns of electrical activity in the developing cerebral cortex of humans and rodents" by Khazipov and Luhmann, and can also be found on countless websites about fetal development such as this one:
    http://www.pregnancyquestions...

PS: I'm not religious. What gave you that impression? This is exactly the war of two extremes that I'm talking about. I make a case for embryos with a partially developed and functional limbic system and you peg me as a Christian, because no science-minded person could ever object to the pain and suffering of a developing human mind.

I believe that one can be both a rational skeptic and an ethical person. I don't believe in souls, but I do believe in the human brain. Before the onset of embryonic neurogenesis, I see no ethical argument against abortion. But at the point where an embryo is able to feel emotions, it is, in my opinion, no longer a non-person, and at that point we should only allow abortion in special cases such as rape pregnancy.

Abortion, by the way, is constitutionally protected. As for King's First Amendment rights, he can say whatever he wishes and, frankly, I thank him for revealing the extremism of his party on the issues of women's health and women's rights. When King makes an ass of himself, I have the First Amendment right to expose his stupid comments for what they are, namely anti-women's rights.

However, I seriously doubt you know much about the First Amendment or the fact it isn't absolute.

I agree that the current "all or nothing" abortion debate is a ultimately a smoke screen. The problem is that many people, probably a majority, consider this more important than the crumbling U.S. economy and are unwilling to accept a sensible compromise.
  • JaguarS... Tastentier 2012/08/22 18:11:01

It's a debate with one party - the GOP - so extremist that its members attempt to limit access to a legal medical procedure that's constitutionally guaranteed and attempting to limit access to contraception to the point of passing laws permitting doctors to lie to women. I think women are learning, very quickly, that they can't compromise with conservative politicians who hold such outdated views about women.

As for the economy, poll after poll indicates Americans know where to lay the blame, namely on George W. Bush.

I agree, but I think that the position "it's only a person once it is born" is equally extreme. Both a war on women and a war on unborn children (we call them children when we see 6-month-old premies in an incubator, so why not in the womb) is a horrible thing. Here in Central Europe, every third pregnancy is terminated. It's really hard to tell which kind of war is worse, imho.
  • JaguarS... Tastentier 2012/08/22 18:25:46

Sorry, but I think you misunderstood my position. My point is that there are two sides of extremists (for the most part) in this debate. This opinionating from two hardened positions doesn't solve anything. The two sides need to reach a compromise that neither punishes rape victims nor allows atrocities like mid-to-late term abortions.
