Regardless of the situation, do you get nervous when cops are driving right behind you??

Because I know that they can stop you and harass you for no real reason at all. Unfortunately, a large MINORITY of cops are thugs who like nothing better than to harass and beat the crap out of citizens who are handcuffed. BUT, I still believe that most cops believe in and practice "PROTECT AND SERVE". Too bad we can't be totally confident that all police officers believe in that creed. Especially in these days of The Patriot Act and so-called Homeland Security.

I haven't had it happen to me in awhile, but in Osage County KS they used to get behind me with their high beams on and drive way too close. I hate it when they get behind me you just can't trust what they might do.

If you haven't done anything wrong, why would you be?

I got a ticket when in college for riding a bicycle though a stop sign at 10 pm on a week night in a sleepy beach town.... ever since I have known they are out to get me.

    Was the stop sign blinking?

If it were I would have deserved the ticket.... This was 25 years ago and I don't think there were blinking stop signs. It was just me, on dark side streets trying to get home on my bike.

I AM ALWAYS NERVOUS WHEN I SEE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICALS. THIS IS BECAUSE WHENEVER LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICALS SEE ME, A GIANT WALKING MECHANICAL TERROR. THEY USUALY WILL TRY TO ATTACK OR RESTRAIN ME. MY GREATEST FEAR IS THAT I WILL HAVE TO SPEND AN ENTIRE AFTERNOON DESTORYING THEM WHILE LAUGHING AT THIER FUTILE ATTEMPTS AT STOPPING ME. I HAVE MUCH BETTER WAYS TO SPEND MY AFTERNOON, DOING THINGS LIKE PLAYING WITH KITTENS, FOR EXAMPLE.

I AM A ROBOT, I AM FROM THE FUTURE.

It depends. If I was speeding at some point prior to him coming up behind me, then yeah, I get nervous. But if I've been Mr. model driver up to that point, then it doesn't affect me.

In fact, I make sure I go a little bit (like 2 miles) over the speed limit. Maybe I'm over compensating for fear that really is there. It's a big pet peeve of mine when people go way under the speed limit just because there is a cop around, so I try to do the opposite.
  • e Brit 2007/03/24 16:28:45

I do the same thing. On the freeway some people won't pass a cop even if he is going under the speed limit, which is very frustrating. Although, the town next to where I grew up, the cops there would hand out tickets for going just 1 or 2 miles over the speed limit!

How anal of those cops! I wonder if the traffic judge just dismissed those tickets...
  • e Brit 2007/03/24 16:35:59

Possibly, if the people contested them, but I did sit in traffic school with one or two people that were more than vocal about how unfair it was that they were there.

I'm with you on this one. I've also heard, first hand from an officer, that on occasion, they enjoy slowing the traffic down knowing that other drivers are fearing a ticket. So they'll intentionally drive beneath the speed limit.

So i do the same as Brit and ervandew only i pop it up to 5 mph over. I figure that is plenty to blame it on the radar or my faulty speedometer =)

Even when I haven't done anything that wrong (maybe just a few miles over the speed limit), I get nervous. I know lots of people in law enforcement and shouldn't get nervous, but I can't help it!

Even while driving my grandmother in her Cadillac Deville with limo tint (specially licensed by the state due to an eye disease). Dont know why, just makes me nervous. Ohh yea, I got out of a seat belt ticket with the argument, "is it really wrong that seeing a cop reminds you to put on your seat belt?" I was so right the cop was stopped dead in thought. Priceless moment!
