The government doesn't do anything to help businesses thrive. The government built the roads, but let's not forget where they get their money from. In the United States of America, it starts with businesses and it ends with businesses. It wasn't the government that allows businesses to thrive, rather it is a LACK of or limiting of government that allowed businesses to succeed.

If it wasn't for the individual drive and motivation to start a businesses and make it successful, there wouldn't be any money for the government to build roads and things like that. It ALL starts with the PRIVATE individual with their own PRIVATE enterprise.

Absolutely true. I built one without any government assistance and they take about half of my income in various taxes.

Obama needs to realize who is doing the helping and who is getting the help in the small business vs government world.

But the taxes he and his employees pay do help build and maintain those roads highways and bridges. In reality the goverment cannot build things such as fire and police depts without people like Mr Gaster who provide much of the revenue to goverment.

So prior to any government people starved to death? Your logic is highly faulty. Our Federal government was instituted to protect individual rights. Only local and state governments should be involved with roads. Interstate highways, sure, but all the rest they just screw up. They are too big, too bloated and becoming more and more ineffectual every day. Other than stealing our rights I honestly can't think of anything they do well any more.
  • GeorgeA... Dr.Jackson 2012/08/03 07:13:18

So, we're the only country that has roads, bridges and highways? Businesses generate the tax dollars that are spent on roads. You are confusing the horse with the cart.

What difference does it make if the president is black, white, orange, yellow, green or blue? Skin color is not the issue here, and in no way has he ever said anything about Obama's skin color or not paying taxes because of the President's skin color.

His point is that this man built his business without any government assistence or any loans from the government or whatever.

His business didn't become successful because of government involvement. Especially not the Federal Government. The State and Local government did build roads, but let's not forget where all that money comes from to begin with.

Businesses that succed and thrive all start with the PRIVATE individual and their own drive and motivation that makes their own PRIVATE businesses.

The government may print the money, but without the successful businesses, that money doesn't mean anything. without the businesses, the money would have very low if any value backing it up.

Private companies are perfectly capable of building roads, bridges, telephone lines, and other things Obama believes the private sector can't do and they can collect fees for maintenance purposes along with it as well.

Of course they're capable, and they are often the ones building these things, but who exactly is going to pay for them? Do you want to pay a toll every time you turn onto a rival company's road?

We technically do that now with the interstate only that it's not a rival company, it's a rival state.

People pay a toll every time they buy fuel .
Federal Taxes on Gasoline pays for the roads and bridges.

I've paid to build the major roads and now I'm paying to use them. Time we put an end to this nonsense. The States should keep the bulk of their tax money and spend it on the things they know need to be done. I'm not remotely interested in bailing out States like California, ones that have buried themselves in debt and are bankrupt. Those bozos will just have to come to terms with their wild spending and fix the problem or do without.

I can think of nothing I get in return for my small business taxes and fees I pay to the government. Nothing other than constant threats of additional fees and fines if I don't pay them on time, or if I do not comply 100% with thousands of pages of their mandates, rules, regulations, etc.

I know what you mean. I have so many friends who have small businesses and will be closing their doors if Obama gets re-elected. They know it's better to shut down and liquidate than to wait for bankruptcy and lose everything.

I have worked my ass off, cut my overhead 60 %, and sacrificed more than I thought I would ever have to just to keep my doors open these past few years. Many of my competitors have closed shop.

In fact, I had to tap 1/3 of my retirement savings last year to cover bankrupt customers debt, and had to pay income tax on that of course. No help needed or wanted from the government, and I fear I will not survive another Obama term.
