If Americans allow the Republican agenda to dictate "how things are supposed to be," particularly when it comes to individual choice regarding the use of contraception which is essentially a religious doctrine, it should be viewed as an assault on the Constitution and democracy itself.
Conservatism by current GOP standards is gathering social morality and attempting to mold it into a framework where the government decides how the population should use their bodies. Nothing could be a better example of this than proposed laws in states like Virginia and Alabama, which would allow the government to force women to have a probe placed inside their vagina as a prerequisite for a constitutionally legal abortion.
How exactly does such an invasive, unnecessary medical test fit into the Republican rhetoric of promoting less government and more freedom? Well, it doesn't. If anything, it proves that the hypocrisy of the GOP is manifesting itself into the greatest lie ever told to the American public.
America became the greatest nation on earth because the freedom and creativity of its people was encouraged, not squashed.
There is nothing more personal than love-making. Throughout history, it has inspired literature, music, art, and many of the intangible ideals that the human race values...

Any government or politician claiming that the government should play a role in controlling the physical body of another human being should be chastised, not praised or encouraged, if America is to remain a free and thriving society.
The 2012 elections are turning out to be less about issues and more about turning the United States into a completely different country.
Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of the current political climate is that too many people seem willing to support politicians who will ultimately make their lives less private, less prosperous, and much less free. The obvious question is why would anyone want to do that?

Simple because by the time the GOP gets control the Democrats have over spent, over legislated and over governed for years. I don't know any Republican anti-education in fact Bush spent way too much on it.
It must be nice to collect your $3k a month teacher's pension on the backs of others. It gives you a lot of time to pretend to care about humanity.

I collect nothing, nada, zilch on the backs of anybody. That pension was part of my pay and there were many years that we took our raises in benefits rather than money in the pocket. I haven't had a raise in three years and took a 7% drop just this past month. You sound like our hapless governor here in Wis. who is sorely trying to "divide and conquor" (his own words), the workers in this state.

My counterparts in the private sector who worked outside the school made much more of a salary all thru their working years than I ever did in the school. But if I would have only wanted money, I would have never had the pleasure of watching light bulbs go off in little heads, or been there to comfort a child for a lost puppy, or been the sounding board for children from broken homes. There are somethings that money can't buy and I wouldn't have changed my life's work for anything in thet world.

Conservatives are more charitable, WITH THEIR OWN MONEY, TIME AND BLOOD. Charity comes from the heart.
Not from gov't with funds confiscated by the gov't from tax payer, distributed as seen fit by some bureaucrat.
We have thrown more and more money at education on an annual basis and our students are worse off year after year. Time for a different approach such as vouchers which democrats universally oppose. Seems the demoncrats are the ones afraid of an educated populace. Stands to reason though.

Conservatives should be contributing more since they are the ones with the money. Ya think? lol

That aside, we in the private sector can and should do all we can to assist those who are struggling. That's a given. But I have found in the Food Pantry (that is solely supported by people who live here), that we can assist them with food and use some of our precious privately donated funds to help with rent assistance, prescriptions, gas, and winter coats for children, that is like putting a band aid on a gaping wound.

You can only do so much in a little service such as ours and though the generosity and caring is wonderful, only a large entity such as our government can reall address the horrific issues. When Clinton reorganized Welfare it worked fine to give grants to states to deal with it themselves. But you get a recession and especially as bad as the one we've been in, the states start to slash and burn and the poor, disenfranchised and lower middle class takes the hit.

''Conservatives should be contributing more since they are the ones with the money.'' That sounds like something a liberal would come up with.
The three richest men are democrats fool. Steve Jobs was a democrat.
I could go on and on.
I commend you for your charity work but........
''Brooks discovered that approximately equal percentages of liberals and conservatives give to private charitable causes. However, conservatives gave about 30 percent more money per year to private charitable causes, even though his study found liberal families earned an average of 6 percent more per year in income than did conservative families.

I have found that the best remedy for poverty is jobs, for those that can work as well as those that are willing to be charitable to those that can not work. That is why we should be on the subject of jobs, not birth control.
  • Sissy Bureauc... 2012/05/19 12:05:37

I thoroughly agree that anyone Right or Left should give to charity and I also agree that jobs are what we need. In all the years I worked at our Food Pantry (and its been for decades now), I can count on one hand, people who just solely depended and expected the government to support them. Do you think for even a nano-second that parents want to see their children go to bed hungry at night or not have a safe place to lay their heads? This is not what this country has always been about, this is not the country that I know and grew up with. When people work they contribute not only to society but to our nation's bottom line. We all do better when we all succeed and "the Have's" even more.

My back yard is America Linda. I live on the road 24/7. Been home to my house in NC 14 days since Oct 2010. I talk to Republicans, Conservatives and Democrats every day and none of them care about social issue right now. They are hurting. They are hungry. And their PRESIDENT doesn't give a $hit. He's too busy. Think about it. Think hard. This country is lost because we have no leader. We have a half a$$ed loon whose idealogy is more important than our well being.

Linda, you can't keep on blaming Bush for Obama's failed economic policies! Obama had the Super Majority in his first 2 years of his Presidency on the heels of a Dem controlled House and Senate since January of 2007 when essentially Bush became a Lame Duck President because the DEMS were in CONTROL starting in 2007..thus our economy starting to tank, and then TANKING even MORE once Obama was elected as POTUS having the Super Majority with his attempts to "stimulate" America's economy that FAILED because of Socialist mentality. Do you even know how our Federal government works??

Everyone knows the housing crisis is at the root of this recession. The democrats own that with the C.R.A.

It was the subprime loans that did not perform, causing the crisis. Those subprime loans would never have taken place had the democrat's C.R.A. not forced banks to make loans to anyone with a pulse. You fail.

Proof from a Con. is the same as asking them to tell you a lie...

Only one of the top 25 subprime lenders in 2006 was directly subject to the housing law that's being lambasted by conservative critics (CRA)

Subprime lending offered high-cost loans to the weakest borrowers during the housing boom that lasted from 2001 to 2007. Subprime lending was at its height from 2004 to 2006.
Federal Reserve Board data show that:

More than 84 percent of the subprime mortgages in 2006 were issued by private lending institutions.

Private firms made nearly 83 percent of the subprime loans to low- and moderate-income borrowers that year.

Oh and the recession ended in June 2009 per NBER.

Barry Ritholtz has been a prominent critic of the theory that the CRA has some culpability for lax lending. He has pointed out that 50% of subprime loans were made by mortgage service companies not subject comprehensive federal supervision. “How was this caused by either CRA or GSEs?” Barry asked

See, you libs relate everything to yourselves and have absolutely no thought for how policies and decisions in the end, affect all of us.

What are you out of your mind, this is exactly what you Libs do. Make ridiculous laws that affect only a few and the rest of us have to suffer through them even if we dont agree with them .

I don't care if Gays get married , i just dont want it called marriage..

I dont care if people have abortions, i just dont want to pay fo rit.

I really do care that babies have been murdered because when we are young we buy into the Liberal crap that it is not really human and then we pay for it in conscience the rest of our lives!!!

Ever ask a woman who has had an abortion 20 years later after she has kids or maybe doesn't have kids because of the after effects of the abortion.."How do you really feel now about having that abortion 20 years ago? " I bet you would get some startling answers!! Even Rowe regrets her decision!!!!

It is not for the Federal gov to decide is a states issue as in Gay marriage .

You just buy into the Liberal crap becaus eit makes you feel superior to think you are doing good for all mankind whenin fact you are helping to destoy humanity with your very bad decisions.
