If Americans allow the Republican agenda to dictate "how things are supposed to be," particularly when it comes to individual choice regarding the use of contraception which is essentially a religious doctrine, it should be viewed as an assault on the Constitution and democracy itself.
Conservatism by current GOP standards is gathering social morality and attempting to mold it into a framework where the government decides how the population should use their bodies. Nothing could be a better example of this than proposed laws in states like Virginia and Alabama, which would allow the government to force women to have a probe placed inside their vagina as a prerequisite for a constitutionally legal abortion.
How exactly does such an invasive, unnecessary medical test fit into the Republican rhetoric of promoting less government and more freedom? Well, it doesn't. If anything, it proves that the hypocrisy of the GOP is manifesting itself into the greatest lie ever told to the American public.
America became the greatest nation on earth because the freedom and creativity of its people was encouraged, not squashed.
There is nothing more personal than love-making. Throughout history, it has inspired literature, music, art, and many of the intangible ideals that the human race values...

Any government or politician claiming that the government should play a role in controlling the physical body of another human being should be chastised, not praised or encouraged, if America is to remain a free and thriving society.
The 2012 elections are turning out to be less about issues and more about turning the United States into a completely different country.
Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of the current political climate is that too many people seem willing to support politicians who will ultimately make their lives less private, less prosperous, and much less free. The obvious question is why would anyone want to do that?

It's about time, for the last three and a half years all we have heard from the right is whether our POTUS is a legal citizen or about stopping insurance companies from paying for birth control, or when conception starts. Or the big one raising taxes on the 1%.
I think it is great although maybe a bit later that you have finally put away all the distractions and have decided to start talking about what is and has been the most important thing facing America for these past three and a half years.
I hope you all can contact your Representative and get them to focus on this important issue too.
So it is good to see we are now all on the same page and maybe if we all work together we can end the partisanship and finally get something done.
I applaud you for taking this great step forward!

Birth control or abortion? Abortion takes prescedent over jobs in my opinion. The morning after pill is not to my liking. I treasure procreation over jobs...

Hello, ever heard the term 'the working poor'? IF we had a minimum wage that was a living wage you would be correct. But working 40 hours a week at minimum wage won't even keep a roof over your head in most areas, never mind eat, heat, transportation or healthcare.

so you just proved my point Jobs (good ones if possible) are do important, Your last sentence is why we need to get rid of Obama in Nov. I worked when I was young making 50 cents a hour, didn't live fancy, but finally worked myself up into a wonderful job. I was one of working poor for ages. You have to work haed to get a head.

I well understand, but if I am not mistaken - things were vastly different then in a number of aspects. weren't they? When I graduated HS the general rule of thumb was that 1/4 of your income paid your housing, and those were for entry level (read minimum wage) jobs. However, the then $1.00 an hour job afforded that we were able to do that, leaving the other 3 checks a month for all the other odds and ends food, heat, clothing, etc. There isn't a chance in Hoboken that a HS grad today would be able to find a place they could afford for 1/4 their monthly income. Minimum wage has not risen proportionally with the cost of living.

some states it is higher, some business can't pay high wages, so that is why some work at second jobs. I worked odd hours, weekends, holidays over time whatever it took to get by. You have to keep trying, giving up will never make it better.

I feel bad for the kids of today, not enough good jobs and for sure no real future with companies like there were in my time I have a pension, those jobs with pension are few now. I also feel bad for the older generation that needs extra income to live. DC mentality is not helping.

I know more than one couple, even with BOTH Mom and Dad doing 12 hour rotating shifts, that aren't getting ahead. Lot of older folks finding themselves caught short because they hadn't anticipated our costs of living. The cost of food, gasoline, housing and medical wasn't planned for and the $ doesn't stretch anywhere near as far as they had thought.

not disagreeing with you. Since the poll was about which is more important jobs or BC, The DC mentality seem to think BC is when it is jobs people needs now not BC. Their lively hood depends on jobs,

I planned for years and did a decent job, but Obama has me second guessing if all my hard work and planning will be enough with the prices SKY rocketing daily.

BC is as it addresses government expenditure - also a concern these days, AND it addresses civil rights for women (another concern). My feeling is that if we turn our eyes to the future and address greener lifestyles/energy sources, the creation of jobs will follow as a matter of course. part of the problem our work force is facing is education. Modern 'cybernetic' lifestyles are so very new that most of our workforce doesn't understand the technology and is completely at a loss for the necessary skills. Education is key here.

When I started my first day 15 years ago, I was given $14- per hour. This number went up every 6 months,. I became foreman after my tenth year [much higher salary]. When work evaporated following the housing market crash, contracts became harder and harder to secure. After several months fiddling with small jobs, a local contractor [I had been recommended] called and asked that I oversee a large renovation. I was bringing nearly 15 years of experience and roughly $10,000 of hand and power tools along with me. I was offered less than half my former per-hour, and told that there would be no raises. I finished the contract, gathered my tools, and left the business entirely.
This is a brutal, cut-throat job market. putting a percentage on it only tells a fraction of the story. Many of those lucky enough to work are doing so with fewer benefits and a slashed-down salary. I lucked out. The entire time i was a builder, I also dealt in the antiques business. I managed ot make the transition, but half of my friends are either under-employed or out of work.
I'm rooting for everyone that is out of work or in debt. I was there once, and it is a gloomy place to dwell

Yes we should but in the correct contex, most of the lost jobs will not be back, so the question is how to put people back to work. Tax cuts will not work, tax increase will not work, employers do not hire on tax issues, they hire on need. The government can help by making money available for education, not college but vocational training, learning skills employers need such as robotics. The other issues like birth control, gay marriage, voter ID are just smoking mirrors because neither party really has an answer. Ad, we the people would rather hear the crap like what did Kim K. wear to the beach than hard answers to real problems.

I think the best thing those in government could do to improve the economy is to bring in tougher measures to combat conflicts of interest within the regulatory structure. "Government should be government and business should be business, and never the twain shall meet" should be the attitude.

So many times regulations are brought in for no other reason than to create red tape to bog down the smaller players in the market. The government needs to provide impartial oversight of business. That requires enforced separation of government people and business people.

I think that upon becoming a government regulator, a person should have to sign an agreement that after retiring from their post, they will live off their pension and never again work in business or receive money from any other source. It's the only practical way I can think of to remove the incentive for the insider shenanigans among business and regulators that are destroying so much American business.

The only reason that Unemployment is going down is because there are People that are giving up even looking for Work (Jobs). If those People that have given up looking up for a Job were truly counted in the Unemployment of Labor Statics, the Unemployment Rate would be higher! Let's say about 17%! Well DUH!!!!! Is this just something you have found out?? This has always been the case during a recession. The government only can use the statistics from the people that file for unemployment, and this has always been the case with any administration. So yeah unemployment has gone down, but it hasn't gone down enough to get us out of this recession, or depression. I still think it is stupid for the right wing to use contraception, as a manufactured controversy. But I say more power to them, I think they are just driving votes away with the independents, and women.

I was talking about the Economy, not Birth Control. Also, you're the one that acting like You just found out how the U.S. Labor Department determines the Unemployment Rate. The U.S. Department of Labor also knows how many People "just give up trying to find a Job." They (U.S. Department of Labor) just don't put out "Unemployment Claim Benefits" information. They put out a variety of Information that is put out every Month. The ignorance is on Your part (Friend), not mine! Also, I don't believe that "Unemployment" would be considered "as a manufactured controversy." It happens to be what's called "Real Life!" Fixing the Economy
