Rave this: If you think the Demacrat controlled Labor Unions, had anything to do with all the manufacturing jobs going overseas.

There's no way a man dumping garbage should make more than an accountant. A lazy employee that hardly shows up can't be fired because the local mafia(union) keeps blackmailing the business.

The Unions are their own worst Enemy! Unions keep talking about being "for the Workers," but they have little to show for it! If they were "for the Workers," they would demand that alot of these Overseas Jobs back fro Overseas. Also, Why is it that they're in favor of Illegal Immigration Reform & Amnesty???? I already know the answer, but it's something that the Union Membership (the Rank & File) should ask themselves!!!!

Unions like democracy are only as good as the people who work in them. Some are corupt and others are working their butts off for the good of their members; One person alone has not clout in the labor market. If we keep demonizing unions pretty soon we will all be bidding on jobs and those who will work for the least will be hired. When they happens you will see all sort of industry come back to the US Trouble is who want to live like that. Slave wages and long hours with no safety checks and business can do whatever it likes with you.

The point that You made ("Unions like democracy are only as good as the people who work in them") maybe true, however, the Actions that were taken in Wisconsin doesn't give Public Employee Unions (not Private Company Unions) any good publicity. I have no problem with Unions in a "Private Company," but NOT in the "Government Workforce." Even the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt (author of the "New Deal") warned of the problem of 'Public Sector Government Unions': “Meticulous attention,” the president insisted in 1937, “should be paid to the special relations and obligations of public servants to the public itself and to the Government….The process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service.” The reason? F.D.R. believed that “[a] strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to obstruct the operations of government until their demands are satisfied. Such action looking toward the paralysis of government by those who have sworn to support it is unthinkable and intolerable.” That's what the Issue of what was happening in Wisconsin was all about. Any smart company that wants to stay in business, must take a very good look at their bottom line!If they feel they can't compete where they're at-they only have two real choices really! They can either close their droors, or they most reduce their over all cost of running their business! Most likely that means, a place with lower wages lower local and state taxes and Less EPA regulations as well! That could either mean a state like texas or an over seas relocation instead! And yes Unions are a very large part of their reasons for moving as well

Today's unions are out of control. The union controllers don't care about their members but only their elite pockets. This is the liberal demoncrat way of 'us against them' that bankrupts the business community by passing ever increasing regulations and taxes till the company can no longer make a profit. The unions do the same with ever increasing demands until the company goes bankrupt or re-locates to another country to stay in business.

There was a time for unions and there was a time to act stupid too! A time for each of the aforementioned categories for sure! Not sure if all Liberal or Progressive or Conservative, but loads are also illegal and created loads of hardship for many and a special holding tank for a few to many in certain industries and groups! As machines did more the unions did less to help out and all around, the time for them has passed and due to their political pull and meanness they managed to get into the liberal crazy 'crats' side more then the other, but sure its ugly head is still pushing their agenda, same with Agenda 21 and other evil crap!

When wages go so high and benefit costs go out of control, Manufacturing in this country is no longer viable. The Liberal progressive stance to provide additional entitlements to the lazy and uninspired at the expense of the business community makes American made product uncompetitive in the world market. In Germany they charge a VAT on all manufactured product but rebate the VAT on exported goods. They do not require their businesses to pay a portion of Social Security and Medicare equivalents which is why a Cadillac is more expensive in Germany than a Mercedes. There are many reasons for the loss of jobs but labor costs is one of the primary reasons for manufacturing job loss. Would Apple make I-phones in China if it was as cost effective to manufacture them here? Would IBM have sold their think pad to China and now being imported as Lenovo? Would Samsung assemble their products in Mexico if the labor cost was comparable? Our work force is more quality oriented than China but the labor costs have driven those jobs away.

Rave this: If you think that the misspelling of "Demacrat"(sic) in the title of this thread is more telling than the subject matter.

That being said, of course the living wages, worker benefits and safety policies that unions helped establish here in the U.S. contributed to companies looking to cheaper overseas labor for their work. But this attack on unions will only serve to reduce our own economic conditions to something more reminiscent of the very third world countries we've outsourced to, which I doubt anyone here in America is looking to do. So rather than dismantling unions - thus cutting lower and middle class pay and benefits, and rendering the average working person defenseless against corporate interests - why not offer some constructive, forward thinking solutions that work with unions to meet everyone's needs? It's just amazing to me that so many seem to forget how unsafe and inequitable working conditions were here pre-union, and how horrible they are in the overseas markets we're forced to compete with now.
