Not all conservatives believe that. Bureaucracy does not belong in our lives period. I for one do not want government intervening in my life or my loved ones.

Meanwhile, here in REALITY.... Conservatives gave us the Drug War, they want big government to tell us what we can put in our bodies. They crack down on media based on what they believe is "moral" so they want big government to decide what we watch and listen to. They want big government to decide who we can marry, and what a woman does with her uterus. And you're telling me it's liberals who surrender to "big brother?" Hahahaha!

Liberals believe we should be in control of our own bodies, decide for ourselves who to marry and what to smoke or eat or drink and that we are entitled to the best information possible to make those decisions based on science. The only "Freedom" you lose with Liberals is the freedom if you're a chemical company to pollute the water supply as much as you want. Unlike conservatives, Liberals DON'T trust the government to put us to death, torture us, spy on us, bomb people or put us in prisons indefinitely, or decide who we can marry or what we can smoke or lead us in a prayer. The Big Brother Nanny state that conservatives created is astounding to me while in the same breath they say they're for smaller government. The only thing they really mean is they want rich people to pay less taxes and corporations to not be held accountable when they hurt people.

Liberalism has lost its battle cry. The liberals now want to have government control us. Big Brother nanny state is the solution that today's liberals. Being "liberal" used to mean being "generous" but it now has become a forced 'political correct' society that is forced on everyone. I am a Ron Paul conservative. Smaller government controls which in fact supports your own contention that taxes and corporations should be held accountable for the harm they cause people. Not the burden of the American taxpayer.

The government IS the people. "Smaller government" means less power "for the people" and more power for corporations. The government has our Bill of Rights. So really "smaller government" means less rights not more.

While there may be truth in what you say...Conservatives HAVE reacted (and will continue to react) to the unrealistic demands and the societal upheaval often created by left-wing fanatics.. the word "Reactionaries" was attached to conservative thinkers (whose ideas might appear pro-working class, and, in essence, contain elements of capitalism, nationalism, or other socio-political characteristics of a ruling class) by the Left-Wing, with very deliberate negative overtones.

Interesting theory..but only a theory. Reactionaries desire to return to some better time that existed in the past. Conservatives believe in only enough change to adapt to present conditions. Your little political diatribe reflects the thinking, or lack of same, that is the basis for the modern RWNJ. The true conservative thinkers of their time accepted change, but wanted change to occur as it was needed. Reactionaries are always seeking some paradise that must have existed in the past. The main difference between RWNJs and LWNJs is the time frame that this paradise exists. The nuts on the right think that if the world would just revert to some past eden it would be perfect and the nuts on the left think that the earthly paradise will exist in the future. Those of us in the middle of these two bunches of nut jobs, make the world work in the present.

The problem is conservatives now days are NOT for individual freedom. The only "freedom" they represent is the "freedom" of multinational corporations to pollute as much as they want, outsource jobs and not pay any taxes or be held accountable for anything ever. The government guidelines that determine which side of the road to drive on make us more free not less free. I can get anywhere I want faster and more safely because of those rules, not in spite of them. The government rules that force companies to put the ingredients on my food make me more free because now I can chose based on real information.
